Pariah reacted to unclevlad in College Football 2023-2024
Scurrilous, clearly malicious rumor from haters.
There's no way those conferences would push for something like that. Their egos say they could go the other way...with one less player on the field...and still kick butt. They think They're Just That Good.

Pariah reacted to DShomshak in What Have You Watched Recently?
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season Two finally came in at the library. I've seen the first three eps and Im impressed. Season One was pretty good overall, but no eps I would call really great. Season Two is starting strong, with three eps I rate as very good. The actors seem more comfortable in their roles, and the writers are daring to push the characters harder. "Ad Astra Per Aspera"deserves special mention as the best attempt at courtroom drama I've yet seen from ST, with a wily lawyer actually finding a way to use Federation law and Starfleet regulations to get the result she wants. Considerably better than "Cpourtmartial" (TOS), "The Measure of a Man" (TNG), or the TNG one with Ardra (though that was still a pretty good story).
Dean Shomshak
I look forward to the rest of the season.

"The 2020 presidential election was rigged" is not spin. "The Biden family are criminals" is not spin. "COVID is a hoax" is not spin.
People spreading demonstrable lies should be held accountable for the harm they do, which as we've seen, can be considerable.

Our group is formulating their annual multisession even for the local gaming con, and I had a bizarre idea ... for reasons coming out of a spurious plot to confabulated later, the PCs are at a gaming con and a real firefight breaks out there! With cosplayers on both sides! At least you hope they're cosplayers on the bad guy side, because you'd prefer not to fight the *real* Deadpool, Harley Quinn, Shaggy and Scooby (who both use machine pistols, BTW), Venom, and Judge Dredd! Heck, have the PCs be cosplayers too, and have identical antihero teams blazing away at each other!

I'm getting pretty annoyed with the press continuing to call this a "hush money" trial. There's nothing illegal for paying someone to not reveal details of actions which aren't criminal. This is a campaign-fund misappropriation felony trial, over a significant amount of money explicitly raised for funding an election campaign allegedly being diverted to another purpose, deliberately mislabeled as "legal expenses," and the payment not being reported to the FEC.
EDIT: Added "allegedly" for legal reasons.

"...crackpot in the growing pool of cringe politicians."
I'll put that up with the "half partisan, half courtesan" line about the House Republicans for Line of the Month.

Pariah reacted to Michael Hopcroft in The 2024 Baseball Thread
It is refreshing to see that, with all the turmoil in baseball over uniforms and velocities and pitch clocks, that Bob Uecker is still -- Bob Uecker. "Mr. Baseball" is a true American original -- a mediocre ballplayer whose self-deprecating humor and love/knowledge of baseball enabled him to become of the best broadcasters in the game and a cultural icon (he had a great peripheral role in Major League and was one of the featured players in the sitcom Mr. Belvedere, and has done legendary ads for beer).
With the New York Yankees' long-time play-by-play voice John Stirling retiring and Vin Scully's retirement a few years ago, an era of history is passing. Uecker is in his early nineties. He won' be in the booth much longer. So I am going to catch some Brewers home games on satellite radio (he doesn't travel with the Brewers anymore) and take in what I can of a sports era I nearly missed altogether.
