  1. If and when you do institute such a thing, Steve, rest assurred.... I'll be there, waiting.
  2. I think I'd start off with not just Luck itself, but at least a few of the Luck Powers from the USPD (pages 129-132), mostly with the "Uncontrollable" options. For the specific effect you're looking at, I think I'd go with 10 Overall Skill Levels, with all the appropriate Limitations (such as No Conscious Control) to simulate the character's lack of control over exactly how things work. The levels could then apply to combat maneuvers, Tactics, Stealth, Persuasion, or anything else, and kick in whenever the character misses a Skill Roll but really needs the success.
  3. Go ahead and start a thread on the FBS. Most folks, I think would count it as a maneuver rather than a power, but a power to increase the damage and accuracy beyond the normal combat rules would be a cool Strength Trick.
  4. Batman also would have some Super Throwing abilities. The Fastball Special would probably be a Super Throwing power. It would primarily go under Strength And Toughness Powers (remember, we're still putting powers into the established categories, and then pulling assigned powers into these new categories), but yeah, it would be included under Super Throwing.
  5. Oh... so you're actually thinking of a Strength trick. I was talking about Super Throwing as in stuff Bullseye, Oddball, Xena, and similar folk could do.
  6. Hulk? For Super-Throwing Powers, wouldn't that be Daredevil?
  7. It occurs to me that a couple of the categories in the Online USPD now have enough listings that an artist who felt properly inspired could make up some drawings for them. Specifically, I'm thinking of Body Control Powers and Luck Powers. I think it'd be very interesting to see Nighthawk trying to strangle Leech through the latter's Oxygenated Skin, or facing down Hazard (again) as Mechassassin "happens" to show up on the scene as Hazard's Rescuer. Of course, actual posting in the online USPD would be subject to Steve's approval... but what does anyone else think?
  8. I think it would be interesting to thumb through the USPD and come up with new categories for grouping some of the existing powers. "Super Mimicry" and "Super Throwing" are two ideas that have already come to my mind.
  9. If you don't like doing it, then don't do it. Like I said earlier, just use a version of the SER to make it work the way it should -- figure on a constant roll of 11, and gradiate the translation based on the complexity and obscurity of what's being said.
  10. From where I sit, you're there already.
  11. Steve's already decided against it, and I tend to go along with his logic. Most super-genius powers either fit into other categories, or are really super-skills rather than superpowers. OTOH a book of super-skills for Dark Champions (and even Champions and Pulp Hero) characters would be a cool addition to the 2005 schedule....
  12. You could always try the suggestion at the bottom of the page here. Handwave the roll (treat it as a SER for Skills) and you're good to go.
  13. Update I just wanted to add one more thing. Two weeks later, this book is in horribly dog-eared condition. If it wasn't for the obviously high-quality work of the printer, I'd probably be losing pages out of it already. The only books to ever get this kind of treatment this quickly in my hands have been Fourth Edition Champions (all three copies) and San Angelo: City of Heroes. James Cambias, wherever you are, you've struck gold in my book.
  14. Hmmm... I had the beginnings of such a rules subsystem in a couple of Haymaker articles, at least one of which made it (I think) into EZ Hero: Fleet of a Thousand Points and The Planet Project. If either or both of these aren't currently available to you, Steve, I'd be happy to send you whatever I can find (assuming you do decide to write the book yourself rather than freelance it out)...
  15. Or we might think you're talking about Skill Levels (which is how I initially interpreted your first post).
  16. Ah! That works for me. Actually the only glaring error I've caught in the book is that Hypersenses isn't in the TOC....
  17. I'd say spread them around a tad. 1) Maybe he learns another Martial Arts maneuver. 2) Look in the USPD (either the book or the online supplement) under Cyberkinesis Powers and see if he might be able to build one or two small abilities from there. 3) What kind of weak points has he had in battle thus far? If he's been injured a lot, maybe he could get another pip of PD, ED, and/or BODY. If he's been missing a lot of blows, maybe he could take a Combat Skill Level or an extra pip or two of DEX. 4) Have there been opportunities for him to learn things in-game? For example, if he's been unfamiliar with the campaign city, maybe a 1-point Familiarity CK would be in order. If there's been a lot of contact with the Spanish-speaking community, maybe he can pick up one point worth of that language. You get the idea.
  18. Besides the Turn Mode on Flight and the base 6" of Running, there's also the -1d6 to Knockback rolls, and the fact that Flight costs END to use even when you're just staying in one spot. And I'm sure a creative, observant bunch of folks like this one can come up with even more....
  19. Nice review. I caught a few grammar/spelling errors, but nothing earth-shattering, and you did an excellent job describing things for people unfamiliar with the HERO System or the Champions Universe. Funny thing, though.... My page 217 says "UNTIL Superpowers Database," not "Terran Empire."
  20. Well, this certainly comes in at the high end of weirdness. I even got a couple of replies from you (though maybe the mostly-unrelated questions I included in the emails distracted you). Ah well, I'll just send again.... It'll give me a chance to fix some of the minor formatting errors (like two spaces instead of one following a period -- piddling things like that).
  21. Though I sent in a second batch of about 25-30 last week, and haven't seen even one of them posted yet.... I could see some of them being rejected (only about two-thirds of my first batch were accepted, and even that was actually a higher proportion than I expected), but I really thought some of them were pretty good. Maybe Steve just hasn't gotten around to reviewing them yet... I dunno. Not that it's all that important....
