But the escort carrier Growler was all that stood between the Allied convoy and the swarming U-boats that fed on ships and men. Rowan flew the lead Seafire off Growler's pitching deck. This was his first command, and perhaps his last - a handful of fliers, men too young in planes too old, locked in mortal combat with two deadly enemies... The Germans. And the North Atlantic. An excellant read.

Re: What Have You Watched Recently? I just finished watching 26 episodes of Avengers. Not bad. Some of the characterizations are off. But that's to be expected. Fat Joey's involved so Iron Man's an arrogant @$$. But they seem to have gotten Cap right at least.

Any more than the patently ludicrous idea of a pair of galleons armed with a dozen 12 and 18 pounders a side could have possibly blown apart a three-decker mounting a broadside of 50 guns on each side, of 32, 18 and 12 pounders. Frankly Endeavour should have blown both the Dutchman and the Pearl into so much floating wreckage. But that would have hardly been a satisfying ending to the movie now would it? So we suspend our disbelief and just enjoy the show. And I just watched The Silencers the first Matt Helm movie on Hulu. Dean Martin, Stella Stevens (no relation), Daliah Lavi, Victor Buono, Arthur O'Connell, James Gregory, Cyd Charisse, and Beverly Adams as Helm's assistant Miss Lovey Kravezit. Damn, but those 60s chicks were hot!

Re: What Have You Watched Recently? I just watched "No Where To Hide", the unaired pilot for Lost in Space on Hulu. It was ... interesting shall we say. I'm not surprised they made some major changes before the show aired. I am surprised that it got picked up at all with such a weak and disjointed pilot.

Re: What Have You Watched Recently? Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl the best of the three. Although At World's End wasn't bad. Dead Man's Chest was weak though. We'll see how On Stranger Tides turns out this summer.

Re: What Have You Watched Recently? I just watched an old favorite that I picked up at amazon. Fitzwilly starring Dick Van Dyke and Barbara Feldon. They used to run every year around Christmas on TV, but stopped a good 10 or 15 years ago. It's been a long time since I've seen it, so it was great to find it on dvd.

Re: What Have You Watched Recently? Well earlier this week I watched Richard Burton in The Desert Rats, and I just finished watching Frank Sinatra and Trevor Howard in Von Ryan's Express. I've been on a war movie kick lately. Planning to watch Twelve O'Clock High tomorrow.

Re: The move to FTP Probably. I was in the free trial last year, then when I bought the game in August all my trial characters were right there waiting for me. Truthfully, once it goes FTP I'll probably go back and fool around with it once in a while. But my regular game right now is WoW, although I do plan to give both DCU Online and SW:TOR a try when they come out.

Re: What Have You Watched Recently? Just watched Iron Man 2 again. Although I enjoyed the movie, I can honestly say about the only thing I would NOT have done differently was the suitcase armor. I would have scrapped everything else. In particular Sam Rockwell's clown version of Hammer. There was no menace to this guy at all. Hammer is a schemer and should have been played as such. Rockwell played him like a smarmy game-show host. It reminded me of Bill Murray more than anything else, but without Bill's charm.

Re: DC / Marvel Characters in Champions Universe So? They can't all be gems. And for the record, my Nighthawk is a blatant rip-off of Batman, an obscure pulp character in that campaign world. After having his parents murdered in the same way, Brett Walker patterned himself after Batman.

Re: List Your CO Heroes! Amberella's name was inspired by Pam Anderson's Stripperella, not the color. Her background is that she's high priced escort who later became the Mistress of Fire. And in my campaign universe Mind Star is Centurion's wife.

Re: List Your CO Heroes! Thank you very much. Supreme was an exercise in design simplicity, clean lines and not too many colors. Gotta admit though, Gunmetal Silk is the one that I like the best.
