  1. Re: And the old shall swallow the new... I talked with Cryptic today, and feel quite assured that nothing in particular is going to change in our current relationship with them. Atari seems solidly behind the current titles and seems uninterested in making any changes, our approval process has not changed, and frankly the ten-year-old in me is entertained that Dr. Silverback is now owned by the makers of Pong. dw

  3. Hey all! I am reminded that it's the first Monday of the month again, and since I'm almost certainly going to be here late anyway, let's have a chat. Usual place, 9pm EST, and I'll try to catch everybody up on what's been happening at Hero! dw
  4. It being the first Monday and all that, I'll see ya in the chatroom at 9 EST! dw
  5. So, guys- I can't help but notice that SOG has been on sale in the store for more than a week now, and sales have been, ahem, something less than stellar. Now, I personally think this is an excellent book, and a very strong example of non-Champions Hero product. The very limited number of reviews we've heard have been quite positive. So, what's the poop? Has interest in the Star Hero line dwindled down so far? Is it just bad luck to be the first book released in the teeth of current economic ugliness? Or have we just not let people know it exists well enough? dw
  6. Re: Who was WWII's most important leader? I think your best bet for coming up with a German situational improvement is to find a way to have Chamberlain's government hang on for even a few weeks longer in May 1940. If Churchill doesn't become PM, either because he's dead or some bargain's been made between the various groups in Parliament who lost confidence in Chamberlain (keeping him there when the Germans reach the Channel) then it's much more plausible that Britain accepts the loss of France, signs some bogus treaty, and starts rebuilding what it lost at Dunkirk. No Battle of Britain (in 1940 at least), maybe Mosely doesn't get arrested and the Fascists in England keep a public voice, and Germany starts turning on the charm about how they and England need to work together to fight the Commies. You can get a fun bunch of new historical branches from that. Once Churchill's in charge, though, it's tough to see Europe going much differently. dw
  7. Re: Biggest Brains in DC Gotta be Batman and Luthor. After all, Mr. Terrific is thrilled when he learns Batman swiped his designs for the T-Spheres, because he "thought they were worth stealing." There may be plenty of people who can outclass either in a specific field, but nobody has the breadth those two have. dw
  8. Re: Long Time Heroes get any Beta chances? My best recommendation would be to go register at the Champions-Online website and make yourself a valuable part of the discussions going on there. The Powers That Be are paying much more attention to that site than ours... dw
  9. Re: Considering a new campaign idea and format Thanks everybody, I think we're full up right now, but if further openings come up I'll check through this thread in order. dw
  10. Re: Considering a new campaign idea and format I'd probably cap it to start at 4 or 5. I'm currently running two other ftf games, and don't have time to manage any more than that myself. If there was enough interest, I would be happy to work with other GMs on a shared campaign idea, but let's not get carried away quite yet. dw
  11. Re: Considering a new campaign idea and format Rod: Be happy to have you or anybody else new to pbp gaming. I've never done it myself, and figured it was about time I joined the kids today with their newfangled hula hoops and fax machines. As far as making characters different, I think the sameness of power structures is a feature, not a bug. Part of the coolosity of the "corps of heroes" concept is the idea that you're part of a larger force, all heroes much like yourself, devoted to a common good and sharing a similar background. There would be plenty of points left over to personalize the characters- the required package for training and personal gear is 152 points, and the players would also be expected to pitch in towards the base and starjet. I'm guessing the beginning power level would be around 250+150, so there's a couple hundred more points to play with individualizing. I'd love to use some of the weirder aliens from both Champs and Star Hero, too. LL: I'd love it if somebody wanted to play a Marshal. In fact, I was considering having each player play both a Guard and a Marshal, so that each would get an individualized personality at least. Marshals would all be in the 100-150 point range, so I doubt anybody'd be happy to play only a Marshal. dw
  12. Hey all! I've never run a play-by-post game before, and am considering doing so on Hero Central. Is anybody interested in trying out a Star*Guard-only sci-fi/supers game to help me explore the medium of online pbp games? I'm thinking high-powered and pulpy, along the lines of Green Lantern Corps/Lensman/Spaceknights... dw
  13. Hey all! Since last Monday was a holiday, let's do the customary chat tonight instead! 9pm EST right here in the chatroom, so bring your questions, kvetches, bouquets and brickbats. dw
  14. Hey all! Book Of The Destroyer, Monster Island and Atlantean Age are all available in the online store right now! So what are you sitting around here for? dw:celebrate

  17. That's right, it's time for Hero to decamp to the wild lands of Indianapolis for Gencon! That means nobody's in the office to take your calls or emails, and shipping is held up until everybody gets back in next Tuesday, so mark it on your calendars. Hope to see a zillion or so of you there! dw
  18. Re: Where is Fantasy? Yes, of course, but the OP specifically said he wasn't interested in PDFs. dw
  19. Re: Where is Fantasy? Fantasy Hero is currently out of stock. A reprint is planned, but had to be delayed when the video game announcement caused several Champions titles to also sell out of stock, and they got moved ahead of Fantasy in line. It's still planned, and will hopefully happen in the next month or two. dw
  20. Darren chats tonight, 9 pm Eastern. Last chat before Gencon! dw
  21. Re: Benjamin Stetser? Man, full moon out this week or what? dw
  22. Re: UNTIL Superpowers Database -- What Do *You* Want To See? Hmmph. Well, let's start with the presumption that a genuine industry professional would have better manners (and be able to write more clearly, hopefully), and assume this is somebody else. Whoever it might be, if this isn't just a random flame-by, it's time to show your cards, son. That's a serious allegation if Derek's right about what your post meant. dw
  23. Re: UNTIL Superpowers Database -- What Do *You* Want To See? What the flibberty-flabberty heck was that all about? dw
  24. Hey all! I'll be on at 9 pm EST tonight for chatting, so come hear the latest from Hero Games about Origins, Dexcon, Gencon, the summer releases, and anything else you want to know! dw
  25. Hey all! Steve can't chat tonight because he's crazy busy, but I missed my monthly chat last week and will be here late tonight anyways, so let's do a makeup in his place. Same bat-time, same bat-channel! dw
