  1. Queensland beats New South Wales in first game of the State of Origin Rugby League series.
  2. Steve Perrin admitted the Champions influence. I read somewhere that he felt it might have been a bit too influenced by Champions.
  3. To bring things back on topic: if you did want to play a superhero skirmish wargame, how would you assign powers? Of course that is where Champions got it together. (Superhero 2044, V&V, early D&D variants, Metamorphosis Alpha, Gamma World... all worked the same territory.)
  4. Easy for me. I was playing wargames campaigns for years before I ever played an RPG, using rules based on those of British wargamer Tony Bath. These included NPCs with distinct personalities. I was also playing skirmish wargames. Putting the two together would create a rudimentary RPG. The sources I am referring to either preceded D&D, influenced it, or were independent of it.
  5. I'm from even further away than you. Here's my attempt at understanding it... The viruses under the ball are actually meant to be sand, dirt or just generally a divot. That's OK. But why is God crying tears of blood?
  6. Sometime too oft the plot of Joker fails, And often is his pale complexion dimm'd;
  7. I have an idea too. It needs work, but basically it's Swords and Sorcery - protagonist, setting, etc. DIY Conan, Elric or whatever your twisted minds come up with.
  8. As the article notes, just after train fares had been discounted to increase usage and offset rising fuel prices.
  9. The UK is an interesting example. There's a real element of delusion visible in the conservative (not just Conservative) side of politics at the moment. Brexit has unleashed what looks like mass stupidity and "didn't think this through" on a scale that hasn't led to major social carnage yet, but still could. And could, of course result in secession in Scotland and Ireland. Personally I am hoping that the new Australian government keeps its mouth shut about China. As in, don't warmonger towards countries that could squash you like a bug. Read "In a few weeks" as "In a few DAYS".
  10. Personally, I would regard anywhere in Canada as bitterly cold. I live about the same latitude south as Texas and Florida are north, and the local winters are "nope". It's not bad today (when winter hasn't officially started), at 15C, but I'm still wearing my winter clothes, including jacket. In a few weeks it will be under 10, and there will be wind blowing all the way from Antarctica. So, no Canada for me. Not even New Zealand.
  11. Since you mention Complications, rather than Disadvantages, I assume you are using Sixth Edition. Genre and setting matter when choosing Complications. This is how you integrate the character into the setting. How many points worth do you need? Generally speaking, some Complications involving other people are a good idea. Hunteds, DNPCs, Rivalries... Psych Limitations help establish who your character is. What is their motivation? What do they want to do? Just these alone can fill up a typical character's sheet. Use the fancy stuff to fill up any points they don't cover. Or cut back on them if you have lots of fancy stuff in mind.
  12. I wouldn't use this name. Too many associations with the Greek goddess/heroine of the same name. If you are willing to use a Greek name, Themis is a relevant one, and not excessively familiar.
  13. First Nations people make up 3.3% of Australia's population. These First Nations politicians are headed for Canberra There are 151 seats in the House of Representatives and 76 in the Senate (the two numbers are connected). So First Nations people are underrepresented in the HoR, but proportionately overrepresented in the Senate. It wasn't so long ago they had no representation. It isn't enough to make a decisive difference in living standards on the ground. State and Territory level representation varies.
  14. Australia changes government. However, the new ALP government's parliamentary majority is likely to be slim, since Independents and the Greens look like winning a swag of seats. This is bad for them, since most of the Independents are moderate conservatives. (Pro-environment, socially progressive rich people.) The Liberal Party has lost a lot of formerly safe seats to the Independents. The highest profile loser was the former Treasurer, and potential heir to the leadership, Josh Frydenberg. This makes it likely that their next leader will be Defence Minister Peter Dutton, who... has authoritarian leanings. Their coalition partners, the Nationals, seem to have pulled their usual trick of small vote -> many seats. Their support base is heavily concentrated in rural areas.
  15. I had a brilliant Oxford comma sentence last night. I can't remember it at the moment.
  16. Those aren't Healers, those are Party Leaders.
  17. Statistics and probability is where roleplayers should shine. How likely is it that your character will be Stunned by a 12DC attack?
  18. It would have to be a source that goes into a bit of detail, but is still playable. Earthsea magic, for example, has all that messy stuff with Names. That makes the system fuzzy, but fuzziness is one of the things that makes magic seem magical. Defining everything in fine mechanical detail works against that - but fuzzy magic wastes time during actual play. The biggest problem, of course, is that RPG magic tends to be heavily combat oriented. "I'm a Fire Wizard!" "Can you cook a steak?" "No, but I can blow up a cow."
  19. Interesting. I don't have Narosia, but I would probably make Concentration a mandatory limitation, but not Gestures or Incantations. Prayer or meditation doesn't have to be overt, but does require a certain attention to the spiritual world, rather than the physical. I can think of edge cases, naturally.
  20. My final pick. --- The world's newest city was once one of the oldest. Now it is the most haunted. Those few of the living that have visited, and escaped, report myriads of poltergeists - brownie spirits. Worse though, are reunited spirits of former lovers and former enemies, who seek possession of mortal bodies to revive their former interactions. And then there are... but such horrors should not be spoken of. Bonus Geography Pick: Necropolis, City of the Dead. On the Dark side naturally.
  21. Type of government. Don't assume a single leader - give the Oligarchies/Republics and Democracies a chance. That doesn't preclude a leader or chief figure. Option. Something interesting about the location that doesn't fit into the other categories, or allows an expansion of them.
  22. That's the one. See Ghostbusters for further details. Mania is the Goddess of Judgement, after all.
  23. Hmm. OK, time to use my Interference. Oddly enough, it is with Aporturn. --- It was the Living that breached the Gates of Hekk. They did not realize what they had unleashed. Now the Gates between Life and Death are open. And the Dead are Many, and the Living, Few.
  24. Assault is fine with it. Mania, on the other hand... I'm working today, and I've only got an Interference and a Geography. I may have to take time to consider how Mania is going to respond to Xarn's unprovoked aggression.
