  1. In the context Scott and I were discussing, Elves are the nobility. They don't mine because they have lackeys for that. They don't grow potatoes for the same reason.
  2. You would hope that this kind of Klan stuff would be in the past, but there is always the potential that the response to it could be delayed.
  3. Another possible approach to Elves would be to base them on Greek mythological Satyrs. Satyrs started off being represented with lots of animal characteristics, but gradually evolved into human like beings who were sometimes immortal, had pointed ears and of course possessed the other distinctive feature of the satyr. And they hang around in wilderness areas, are somewhat dangerous to be around and are associated with minor goddesses and nature spirits. Elves, surely.
  4. I was reacting to "ced(ing) control of its oil and gas industry" (the basis of its economy), "territorial demands" and "Disarmament demands". This is foreign tanks in Moscow stuff.
  5. And while we are at it: halflings pay tax, respect their betters, and are humorously bucolic. Goblins don't, and aren't.
  6. Obviously none of this will happen. There aren't going to be Ukrainian tanks in Moscow any time soon.
  7. Dwarves remain miners and craftsmen. I would probably use halflings as peasants. Someone has to grow crops for the Elves.
  8. Actually, "Men of England", "Men of France" etc are used in our world, although in the form of Englishmen, Frenchmen and so on.
  9. This is exactly the kind of stuff I want. Thanks!
  10. Assuming human characters, and stressing that this is for 6e - with no figured characteristics! What STR do you typically give your PCs? What do you give different types of characters? (Casters, warriors, etc.) What are the most efficient values, if those aren't what you give them? (And if you don't give them the most efficient values, why not?) In general, what criteria do you use? I'm asking because STR minimums seem to point towards values other than the traditional 10/15/20 sequence, and trying to do the analysis myself is hurting my brain. There is also the question of how common unarmed combat is. Let's avoid the term "character concept" as much as possible, since it's usually just a smoke screen for "my character is as optimized as heck, but I'm a Real Roleplayer, so I pretend it isn't".
  11. "Smurf" is the English translation of the original "Schtroumpf".
  12. "They're not very fashionable, are they?" "No, but they are functional." one melee personal weapon Dagger Shoes (James Bond) --- Finally: one home base Earth, in a universe that has been pacified for centuries. --- And that's it. I've tried for choices that could, however absurdly, fit into Barbarella's broad esthetic. I don't think I've been entirely successful, but near enough. In retrospect, Hymie might have been a better choice than Kryten, but I didn't think of him. Anyway, LOVE.
  13. I haven't posted for a couple of days, so I will rush through my last four picks today. --- one Spaceship or Aircraft Barbarella's own ship, naturally. one Land Vehicle. A hoverboard (Back to the Future) --- Still to come, after I make a cup of tea: one home base, which must be anchored to the ground or space-time or something. While it might be in a fixed orbit, or be disassembled and reassembled elsewhere, such "motility" is highly restricted. As an example: Deep Space 9 is a base, but Enterprise NCC-1701 is a starship. one melee personal weapon
  14. But at least they're not better than humans in every way... Oh, right.
  15. The actual 2e and 3e rulebooks had the guidelines I was thinking of. They still hold up pretty well, although they would need to extended to cover the previously figured characteristics. --- Stupid reply merging --- Unfortunately, Hero Games is pretty much a one person operation these days.
  16. Of course you could always use the 2e/3e guidelines. They work quite nicely, as long as you neutralize the extra dice you have to roll in 5e/6e.
  17. I've already made my robot choice, but if I hadn't, you could count this as a snipe
  18. How fast can they run away? Can the quickest players to react save their characters? After all, you don't want to get a reputation for being a killer GM. Oh wait, I used to enjoy my (unjustified) reputation as a killer DM back in the day. I didn't have to kill a single PC to keep the legend going.
  19. Apperently it was smuggled into Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union during the Cold War in an attempt to "inspire" dissent against "Communism". During a period of unemployment, it was given to me by a hack from the privatised Australian unemployment system in an attempt to "inspire" me. I refrained from throwing it at him.
  20. Liking the replies so far. I suppose I should add one of my own, but this shouldn't be taken as an indication of what I am looking for. It's based on an old character of mine from from a sadly short lived game, way back in the 80s, with some more recent frills. Runcible Teach is an astrologer and soothsayer. He also works as a tutor to the children, mainly sons, of the gentry. A gifted mathematician, he also had a brief military career as an architect and Master Gunner. A philosopher and scholar, he rarely uses flashy magic, aside from making disturbingly accurate predictions of the future. This has led to him being accused of being a charlatan. But on those rare occasions when push has come to shove... One of his more distinctive possessions is a rather strange looking hat. If he is pressed,he will mutter something about flying monkeys from the Moon, which tends to cause people to doubt his sanity
  21. A fair bit of that is in the books. Take what they say as a guide.
