  1. Re: Traveller Hero, a major announcement I went in today (well yesterday by now) to my FLGS and made sure he had it on his watch list and to save me a copy. He loves be because I have essentially single-handedly gotten a Hero customer base (the hero gamers in my area went from 2 straight to 8 or 9)
  2. Re: Plot seeds? Thank you all for what you've posted so far, Scarlet Drake isn't in the game I'm getting ready, but aside from the Man vs Machine aspect, it sounds like we have the same style game in mind, so this thread will help two people at the very least.
  3. anyone got plotseeds for Star hero? that is the only things I'm missing right now, a cache of plotseeds or ready-made adventures like I had at my disposal for Champions games. money is tight so I can't rent/buy many movies or books and because we are going to be wathcing serenity/firefly (which is the same kind of feel we are going for in many respects) I can't just rip them off for the first few sessions while I wait for my brain to start churning out Ideas. also, I figure while helping myself, I'll also help others. once we have a bunch of Ideas here, I'll new thread devoted to posting more and more plot seeds (much like the champions one) and I'll start compiling them into a PDF to submit to the free stuff section.
  4. Re: Lameness Is Not Illegal actually, I seem to remember seeing a speedster that was combined to a wheelchair because his legs were amputated or something...
  5. Re: I ordered the entire StarHERO Line; and have a question I love the wingcommander series and have yet to bring myself to watch the movie, having seen only a couple episodes of the series. I actually just downloaded a fan remake of Privateer and bought a game that is in the style of privateer but made much more complex (the economy shifts, and you can buy and pilot capitol ships, along with purchasing factories to actually produce things, plus you can get people to eject from their ship and take it over as a way to build your own fleet, did I mention that you can command and own many ships not just the one you fly and can arrange to hop in the other ships whenever you are close to them? {of course if you don't do it with both ships at a station you actually have to eject from you ship and float in space to the otehr ship and climb in the cockpit}) the tech level system of pricing sounds cool, I look forward to the arival of the hero books on Friday (scheduled delivery time anyway) I'll have a good few days of reading. and yeah, Traveller Hero excites me, I'm telling my FLGS to order it.
  6. Re: I ordered the entire StarHERO Line; and have a question
  7. Re: I ordered the entire StarHERO Line; and have a question thanks for the suggestions so far, they haven't even shipped the space hero books yet, but the first thing I plan to do is spend all my reading time looking at the various star hero books and taking notes on what to use and what not to tell my players so they don't go and say things like "I like that way better" (most of my players are inexperienced with hero, so tend not to think of all the problems with rules that I do and they tend to latch onto the latest idea put in front of them, no matter how excited they were before aobut the orriginal plan) I felt the same about the price=points+equation routine and always though if I went for that, then they'd get a wide range of ways of doing it (f'r 'nstance flashlight would be straight up points, or perhaps even be real points divided by five because they aren't that big of a deal, but that shoulder-mounted proton torpedo launcher is gonna be real points times 50 I've always believed that there is always gonna be tech of some sort that is so cool and new that it will cost more than a cheap vehicle of the time no matter whatworld/universe it is.
  8. Re: just ordered the entire set. also have a question wow, posted while I was writing mine, Thanks! it gives me an excelent place to start and it gives me more things to think about (like an answer to the spaceship question, perhaps the space-craft aren't much different and are mass produced, therefor to actually cheaper to buy, but very expensive to maintain with fuel and repairs/upgrades)
  9. Re: just ordered the entire set. also have a question oh, as for tech level, I want to be like traveler where there are space ships, it take time to get to planets, not FTL communication, and the hand held weaponery is pretty advanced and while there are robots who can do some tasks, they aren't super advanced and there are not giant mecha. I haven't decided about realy advanced/powered armor and all though... a really good ground weapon (ground emplacements, or the game's equivelent of a rpg) can do minor damage to a ship on a slightly above average roll, but rarely enough to actually stop it from taking off (might damage a critical system so they can only travel so far away or something) I still need to rent and watch serenity or firefly because while I've played theh traveller comupter game, my friends haven't but they says serenity is similiar so I need to make sure we have the same thing in mind. any other things I should be thinking about before the game starts? because I got the money (or will as soon as I find the right books to buy), tech level, and how expendable life is in the setting.
  10. Re: just ordered the entire set. also have a question well, it's likely to change a bit as we get closer and closer to the point where we actually start the game, but here's what I've been thinking so far. the setting is going to be semi-gritty I intend Psionics and other "mumbo jumbo" (as some people will put it) to be rare, but possible, perhaps one PC will have them with any realy competence, but most people are a bit wary about it. the group is probably gonna be a bunch of bounty hunters (choosing that over their previous job) and space combats will be infrequent while ground fights can be really common, depending on the PCs mood (you know, say the wrong thing in a bar and all) character death is highly possible, but only if you get unlucky or mess with the wrong people at the wrong time, so it will be infrequent at least, err hopefully anyway, that' what I'm aiming for as for NPC death, it's entirely up to the PCs (this game is partly in response to a four color supers game where it was wrong to kill the villians) so I'm guessing frequent blood splatters as far as npcs go. got to go (meeting g/f's dad) will post more later
  11. Re: just ordered the entire set. also have a question ah, that first part make a lot of sense, but at the second I have to ask another question. (thanks for the quick and helpful reply btw) see I played the traveller computer game back in the 80's and have never owned any of the traveller books, so would I likely to be able to get the books I need from my FLGS and if so, which ones should I buy? a Long time ago I downloaded an incomplete PDF translation of traveler to hero so that most equipment and such is statted up but no prices which is really what made me start chomping at the bit to try and run that style of game.
  12. so my group (with a little help from my natural charm) has decided to try a Traveller/Serenity Hero so I just ordered the entire star hero line of books* I'm really psyched for it, but I have one question as this is the first time where I've run a campaign where characters pay money for things, I've only GMed various Champs styled games, so I was wondering how you guys come up with the prices for everythiing, because obviously in Traveller money is important, and you don't want the PCs running around with 15 points in wealth or allow them to buy a starship for 15 credits. but I bassically wanted to see how people handle the whol money issue in games. any help is apreciated *something I've been saying I'd do for years, same with Fantasy hero and the other genres, but the Ultimate and champions line has kept me busy with buying things that I never had a good excuse to get into star hero because I never thought I'd actually get to GM it.*
  13. Re: Steve's Chat Tonight (Thursday, July 27) wish I could make it, but I have Karate at 6, dangit. oh well, maybe in three years (technically four), after I (hopefully) get my shodan
  14. Re: What I learn playing a GM. Conversly, always be prepared to simplify your adventures. there's been many times when an adventure (or worse, part of one) I thought would only take 1-2 hours ends up taking 6-7 hours and we still aren't done, but we need to call the game because some people have to be somewhere, and since the players HATE dropping a game in the middle (especially when two of them just lost ~6 body each due to either a particularly good hit form the villian's sword or some poisonous gas) so want me to narrate what happens, how then get out of it, and what they discover in the last 5 minutes of the game)
  15. Re: Hero like Box (obscure Alpha Flight hero)? ah, but Ironman can sleep in his armor, and so can many others, Ironman also has a removable faceplate so we can assume he has a removeable backplate. this would mean that he can do all the nessicary things without leaving his armor. now if the character litterally can't do any of those things without leaving his armor fully (such as sounds the case) then a minor 10 or 5 point limit would be appropriate, it is at most 1/15 of his total disadvantage points and does actually limit the character slightly. after all almost all of the were-creatures get distinctive features when they are in the animal form
  16. Re: Keep Caught Weapons you could build Mjolnir (SP?) as a follower so that it can act on its own. thor Throws Mjolnir which uses it's flight to do a move though on Juggernaut, does nothing to him, so the psyc lim "must return to Thor's hand" kicks in, but Juggernaut uses a held action to grab ahold and performs a move through using the hammer's velocity.
  17. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Madra (a mentalist who is 4'3" and looks 13, but it really 30+) and Saphire When discussing various ways of dealing with the members of Warmachine: Saphire: "Well, we could distract them with our bodies while everyone else jumps them from behind." Madra: "But I'm too short, they'll be seen as pedophiles"
  18. Re: How do I build? why are we using naked advantages? just create a multipower with certain slots having the limitation "Only Versus Demons & Evil Mystics (-1)" this way seems easiest and the most logical to me...
  19. Re: Differences between Sidekick and 5ER? wow, Thanls! I bought two copies of it and have been giving them out to the players to read so much I have read about one page of it myself. I didn't even know about the sidebar on page 40. after you finish you somone will deffinately have to put it up on the freee stuff section of the website.
  20. Hey guys, I'd like to have one sheet I can give to players after they understand the sidekick rules that listls the differences between it and 5ER (preferably with page references but the EXCELENT index makes this unneccesary) is there anything like this in existence yet? if so, where is it and if not as they say, why not? thanks in advance!
  21. Re: The Continueing adventures of the Atomic Defenders Day one: the Plan: Time was short due to Final to actually create a game from scratch, so I decide to run the pre-written scenario from Digital Hero issue #9. the scenario is simple and straightforward with no real complications, any extra players would get to choose from the Champions and I'd pull out enemies like Devastator or Tachyon to compensate. the game would take playce in the commons of the Community college as there are almost no classes going on at that time and no one is there on fridays usually m starts at 2 PM, planned end time, 6PM the players: Blazer, played by Laura Landslide, played by Kody Typhoon, played by J.J. Pipeline, played by Adrienne Masq, played by Raymond Saphire, played by Ryan Ironclad, played by Jeff (he was a true last-minute addition, we had talked about him playing,a dn he knew the time, but it interefered with other stuff, so I didn't think he'd come, yet right as we started set up, there he was) How it played out: (the game started a bit bumpy, as the players got used to the idea pf Role-playing I'm cutting out MOST of the OOC problems that occured) The scene Opens with Ironclad, Typhoon, Landslide and Saphire (in secret ID) on stage for an unvailing of a fountain. Blazer and Pipeline are both in the stands in Secret ID. after the unvailing (which took a long time to get to) is finished, Masq floats down and attemps to establish a mental link with Landslide who resisted contact with the foriegn mind. at this time, Typhoon stepped forward and questioned masq's apearance, but before masq has a chance to try to establish a link the nearby constuction site starts to colapse. as Blazer hides under the stands to transform, Pipeline and Saphire run off to the nearby Starbucks to us the bathrooms to change while Landslide and Typhoon rush to protect the Voting public from any girders that fall near them. Meanwhile Masq, and Ironclad rush to the building to try and stop it from collapsing. when a frice breaks out from a ruptered kerosene tank Pipeline and Blazer work on saving the poepl and putting out the fires while at the same time, Landslide tunnels under and around the contrustion site to collapse it as Typhoon and Ironclad hold the girder construction up. at this point Ironclad gets a call from the Champions saying they need his help and heads home (the player had to leave less than and hour after we started) (at this time I realise it is very late at nite so I'm going to be brief and OOC in my descriptions and flesh them out later in the morning als at this time Ryan who for some reason hadn't been doing anything, decides to go and lay down on a nearby couch to take a nap) after finnally getting everyone to the lab where a robbery took place at the same time (kudos to Typhoon for getting a few hints LONG before everyone else) after the various attmpts to learn about the constuction site, including some very off the wall things, the heroes enter adn proceed pretty much as planned, everyon but Pipeline entered the clean room and investigated, they made all the right deductions, and had gotten to Dr. Calloway's house and investigated it. we are running a litle late (it is already 4:28) as I get ready to set up the riot at the zoo (second to the last scene, the last scene is a battle vs the super villian team) we learn two things. 1: Raymond has to be hom by 6, thereby cutting the playtime by 30 minutes. 2: the commons closes at 4:30 on fridays. the game is called and we decide to plan a new meeting place and or time for next week. no firm decision is made about what to do about the adventure.
  22. This will be the log of the adventures of our team, their triumphs and their failures. The name Atomic Defenders is simply because our team doesn't have a name and we live near a radioactive site. I'll try and keep this log as in character as possible, but as our group is filled with new players (currently I'm the only one who has played Hero before).
