I for one am thrilled that Hollywood has outgrown their 80's habit of casting bodybuilders and wrestlers in superhero movies because they "looked the part," whether or not they could actually act.

But he has become such a master of disguise. He appeared as Two-Face in the 3rd Schumacher movie, he appeared as Lex Luther in Batman vs. Superman. Its my only explanation for how those characters acted.

As an alternative may I suggest The Assassination Bureau, or Running Delilah.

And Lexa Doig on Arrow as Talia was scary how close to Emma Peel as I've ever seen.

I strongly disagree with that first statement. Unquestionably some elements of the Ultimate universe have been brought into the MCU, notably Nick Fury and Hawkeye; and there have been some departures from the traditions of the mainstream Marvel comics, such as Asgardians being aliens (which to be fair, the mainstream comics also retconned them that way for a while).

However, in style and tone, the essence of the MCU has been much closer to the mainstream, more positive and optimistic, than the grim and cynical flavor of the Ultimates. Captain America in particular has been the idealistic, inspirational hero he was portrayed as for decades, rather than the jingoist jarhead Ultimate version.

I'm rather hoping that "Ice" becomes the new identity of Caitlin Snow when the Flash TV show returns.

Not to mention, I think doing an origin for the joker defeats the purpose of the anonymous agent of chaos that he represents.

Well, their budget isn't astronomical - it's probably easier to train people to look like they're doing a decent job in a fight than to wire-fu or CGI them into doing things that are only really possible for 'normal' humans in comic book: Brawler who does Parkour will have to do.

I don't mind the minimalist approach to their super hero shows as long as the writing and acting is ok - to me it just keeps them closer to 'street level'.

(It's why I appreciated Purple Man as Jessica Jones' adversary - not only is it a classical mental villain vs physical hero but it's CHEAP.  No fancy special effects on the mind controls and with mostly normal humans for the fight scenes Jessica didn't need to display super strength at comic levels - less lifting cars over your head and throwing them, more seeing tires squeal as the car fails to move.)

The Fifth Element is one of my favorite movies but I couldn't tell you why.

Oh you are probably correct. I blame grimdark for its overarching influence on modern media. With a little more adventure, Iron Fist would have been more fun.

I just didn't feel that it was as bad as the Internet made it out to be.

Just got back from seeing The Dark Tower. Elba is Roland (though relegated in this version to the supporting role). The kid is good as Jake. MccConaughey makes a good villain, but he is not the Man in Black from the books. I know it is supposed to be Canon and a continuation of the books, but I don't see it. My reaction is, He who says this is based on the books has forgotten the face of his father. And I am usually a huge fan of Ron Howard.
I understand there is a divide on this movie of those who have read the books and those who have not.

Just finished watching The Shadow again. I so wish that this had been a success at the box office. It's one of my favorites.

When she says "people" she must be referring to hardcore comics nerds. Because apart from them, nobody knows who Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel is.

I recall an old article by Stan Lee where he commented on fans who, whenever Marvel published a book that did not work out, accused them of "Letting down the fans", but whenever they published a hit, accused them of "Just grabbing the cash".

You can't have it both ways. "Fan service" is "customer service" is "giving the people what they want".

I find it a little amusing that Sony's costume doesn't really look like something he could have made at home, when presumably it was, and Marvel's does - when it was made by Stark.
