  1. I have to say this is one of the funniest threads I have read. Living here may be somewhat boring, but something like this just makes you laugh. If I were to create an Iowa hero they would have the power to make a really good game store survive on the Eastern side of Iowa. That would be the holy grail of powers. Matthew
  2. This thread is hilarous. But I will defend Iowa a bit, (which I never thought I would do, but since I just moved back here after escaping for 11 years I will) Yes Iowa is boring, but there are still things to do here. As someone pointed out it would be a great central location for a multi state team. There are also some companies here that could interest some major villians. Quaker Oats-take over the production plant, slip in a little mind control substance, take over the US, then the world. Rockwell Collins- nice big aviation/information tech company, lots of potential there Archer Danial Midland plants- one of the biggest producers of various ingrediants of most foods. again the mind control thing. Geico- insurance fraud anyone? University of Iowa - huge college with lots of potential (Iowa State too)- World famous writers workshop that draws huge authors John Deere Plant- yes this fits the sterotype, but I'm sure something could be done. And this is only within a 40 mile radius of Cedar Rapids and not nearly everything Not everyone who lives in Iowa is a hick. Some of us live here to be close to our families. If we are going to make sterotypical teams lets look at some other states as well. Arkansas, Louisanna, Maine, Hawaii Lets spread the fun around! Though I do want to see more ideas for Iowa too!
  3. They are really cool. The company is called Crystal Caste. Here is the weblink to them. Matthew Crystal Caste homepage
  4. One year as a gift for all of us going to GenCon I made business cards that were themed to the individual person. I put their correct name and info on the card, but then added a quote from a character or bit of info on the character. Each had a different picture. I made them in MS Publisher and they gang loved them. Fun and easy presents for people. Matthew
  5. You are correct! This has been discussed before. here is the link for the thread on this board (hope I do this right!) Ars magic inspired magic
  6. There is a list of disadvantages on this site? Please tell me where. I stumbled across the UNTIL database because someone posted it and have yet to find it on the site. Lucky I bookmarked it! Thanks Matthew
  7. I would say that I am an alpha gamer that does it from the beta role. In a long term D&D game I played a character that had access to various secret knowledge. Whenever we had to decide what to do I would suggest something, let them kick it around, and then point out the benefits of what I thought we needed to do. We usually did it and they thought it was their idea. This was mainly a function of the character, but I like to play the alpha type. Beta type characters are fun though. Once played a vampire that joined an existing game. My guy had just been embraced and they had been around for decades. It was soon fun to play someone who had no clue what it meant to be a vampire.
  8. The name is Sidekick. I don't see the release date listed on the 2003 or 2004 schedule but if I remember right Steve was going to be testing it or Gen Con So Cal this weekend. Matthew
  9. Thank you very much! Now to plot evil! Matthew
  10. Thanks for the site! There were a couple of scenarios that I did not have. Does anyone have the characters that were made for it also? I must have lost them and the website gives me an error for the page. I can always make my own but would be interested in seeing the original ones. If not no worry, but thanks again for the site. I may try to work them into a PBEM I am thinking about running on Herocentral. Thanks again, Matthew
  11. I was going through a bunch of my old Champions stuff last night and came across some files that I had printed on a campaign idea called Waylords. Does anyone remember this and is there anything else out there about it? Basically you could either add the Waylords as villians or make a full campaign about them. Their main ability was that they could access the Way, an extra-dimensional highway to any world. It was a very cool idea and very well written. If anyone knows anything more about it I would appreciate any info or websites. Thanks, Matthew
  12. Thanks for the input folks! Your help is greatly appreciated. Matthew
  13. Sure can. Her name is Compass Rose. She is a teleporter and a "detecter" it is a mutant power that I think will be based on "detecting" what is on someone's mind. She doesn't really read there thoughts or anything, but if someone has gun nearby and she tries to detect if someone does she will be able to lock onto it. For her teammates it is almost like mindscan (and I may build it that way). She can find them if need be. Hospitals works the same. She "locks" onto the thought of a hospital and can then teleport there. She will play a non front line role though her teleport power has been built with some offensive powers. Is that enough of an explanation?

    Detects

Hey Herophiles, I've got a question that I could use some help with. I'm working on a character that will be able to detect a number of things at range and I need to hear some ideas for the ways to build it. First here are some of the things that she can detect-her teammates, hospitals, guns. There will be more. Right now I have them built in an EC with each one having ranged, extra range and unusual sense advantages. Some are to be targeting (for a teleport). I thought about using some naked advantages that could be then linked to all of her detects but I'm not real happy with that idea either. Thoughts and idea folks? Matthew
  15. Any suggestions on the best way to use the program would be appreciated! I love this program. I can still only do basic stuff, but it is still amazing what you can! Matthew
  16. On tech tv the had as a free file for the day a program that does most of the same functions as Photo Shop. The program is called GIMP and it works pretty well. Now I'm not artistic but I've been playing around with the program using some of the Hero drawings as practice. I would give it a try. Hey its free. Here is the weblink of where to download the program. http://www2.arnes.si/~sopjsimo/gimp/ Matthew
  17. All I can say is that Hero Fans are the best fans in the world. All the ideas that have been posted are wonderful! Houston GM- I thank you heartily for your very indepth post. If anyone has any more ideas please keep posting! Thank you again! Matthew
  18. I am working on relaunching a campaign set in 2025. Some of the NPC's will be the kids from the first campaign and things like that. I want the groups input on what the world will be like in 2025. Will everyone be connected wirelessly with the equivalent of AIs? What about the political landscape? The tech rule is that computering power doubles every 18 months. So what does that mean for 22 years from now? Any thoughts or ideas are appreciated. Matthew
  19. I once made a team that matched the PC group in power and status. They were all psi based so you may want to dump that part but the PC's hated them after one meeting. One of the reasons was the the PC's had to scramble to even break even in the battle. The villians weren't that much more powerful, but I had worked out many tactic beforehand with the idea that they (villians) had been watching the PC's for awhile and knew how they would react. This drove the PC's nuts. I also threw in some powers that the PC's were morally against. One of the villians would steal souls of the PC's this really freaked out a PC who dealt with spirits. The final thing I did was get all charges dropped. The villians hadn't done anything that there was proof of and they had the resources to hire lawyers to get charges dropped. This really upset the PC's. My suggestion are to think about what your PCs would hate to have happen, make villians like that. Then plan, plan and plan more of what the villans will do in certain situation. And then if captured, release them. Matthew
  20. All the prices listed so far seem good to me. I really like the idea that was put forth for a variety of T-shirts (VIPER, etc). The flying disc could have a fun write up on it also! The tile box AKA dice box! I'm all for whatever you make! Matthew
  21. That sounds pretty fair. And at the later levels you can add in the skills for building genie prisons and stuff. I would be very interested in seeing what else you come up for this transfer. Al-qadim is my favorite setting. I've acquired everything printed except for the monstorous pages. Have photocopies of them, but would love the original. Good luck and if you want to chat about the Land of Fate more just let me know! Matthew
  22. One question, how are you planning on doing the Sha'ir class? A contact with the gen who will then bring the spell to the Sha'ir? Or have the gen by the SFX of a VPP with various limitations. (that way could get really messy!) Matthew
  23. Thanks everyone for your input. These are the types of ideas that I wanted! Matthew
  24. Hey folks, I'm working on putting together a team and want your input. This team is more for stories than for RPGing since I haven't had a chance to find any gamers in town yet. I want to hear from everyone on what types of characters make a balanced team. I am thinking Teen Titansish type of team. Young but somewhat experienced. The first character I have is Robin like but not the team leader, but more of a field leader in combat. Anyway, what all of you think? Matthew
