    New Blood...

Another great part of the CU is that you can take what you want from the published materials to use in your campaign and then add your own material or adjust the world to accomodate the PCs origins. For example in my group, Captain Patriot and the All-American never existed because we have an iconic character named Anthem to fill those niches. VIPER is a great source book for any type of HERO System campaign. The characters and organizational information is really excellent and gives you more as a GM to work with than faceless agents in green jumpsuits.
  3. Great Job doc. I particularly like the concept for Zero.
  4. Let me just throw in here that the Mass Combat Rules in Fantasy HERO work great if you want to pit a PC Hero-lead Battalion of UNTIL agents against Alien Lieutenant-lead Battalion of Alien Soldiers.
  5. Re: JLA vs. X-Men You are not the first to put forth this idea, but I have one word for you...Parasite. In the Superman:TAS he managed to keep Supes subdued for days. When Bats whips out the K-nugget he keeps in his drawers Iceman would freeze him in a block of ice (all except his outstretched hand) as Beast happily bounds in grabs it and throws it FAR away. Or maybe Professor X tells Bats to eat it and forget that he did so (EGO +30). Then when the K-rads slowly poison Bats the DCU as well as all of comicdom will finally be rid of the most ridiculously capable character ever. They should make Batman vulnerable to Kryptonite or maybe Fire, then he would only be in a 3-way tie for most ridiculously capable character in all of comics. BTW, JLA would win because they have the 3 most ridiculously capable characters in comicdom on their team. Sorry about the rant.
  6. I am a huge fan of the Flash as well and I totally agree that he is not used up to his potential for plot/entertainment reasons. I do have to disagree with what you have said about him taking out all of the X-Men before they could blink however. Flash is fast, incredibly fast, but he still has to send messages from his brain to his limbs in order to move that fast and I don't think he is faster than thought. Which is precisely what Xavier would use to shut him down. I would also say that it seems that people forget that the X-Men have a knack for surviving and when their backs are to the wall, they are willing to pull out all the stops and get the job done. The specific examples are too numerous to mention here. On a related note, I am disgusted to hear that MM has superspeed as well...that guy would never be allowed in any campaign I was running...lol
  7. Cool page Blue. What program do you use to make those Toons? Do you have a template?
  8. Martian Manhunter is REALLY powerful in the DCU. However it seems that Marvel has the lock on super powerful Psis. Despero was able to shut down MM all by himself in Virtue & Vice. I would think Xavier could do the same. MM upsets me almost (I said almost) as much as Bats does, here is a guy with most of Superman's abilities (at only a slightly reduced power level) PLUS shapeshifting, density control AND telepathy. The only thing he lacks is Super Speed and let's not forget that hefty Vuln to Fire. Now if only Pyro were an X-Man!
  9. Those are sweet Blue...do you have a whole page done up. If so, I would love to see it. BTW, one of my all time fave Champions characters is a patriotic hero named Anthem. He has become an icon in our group and an occasional pain in the ass.
  10. Shadowcat is really your best bet here, Vision can't make other things desolid and Kurt has never teleported an object inside an opponent, however he did bamf someone's finger off in the Age of Apocalypse storyline. Also Batman's Gotham street cred doesn't mean anything to the X-Men who have never even heard of Gotham...so no bluffing Bats.
  11. Re: could kitty pride beat superman? I believe Shadowcat, under the circumstances laid out here, could kill Superman. Howver, my scenario would differ from yours in the following way; ...but the son of krypton is still not defeated... Shadow Cat "runs" along the air towards him, she hesitaites, sees xavier go down, then... Kitty grabs the biggest piece of building debris she can find/lift, phases it and thrusts it into Superman's head and chest and releases. The DCU mourns the loss of their greatest hero.
  12. Re: Photonic Analogue 1) Clarsentience is fine here, define it as only to see the normal, time-stopped world. 2) The first question I have is...Are there any other uses for this power other than Teleportation? It seems like there is from the other two questions, but this rub makes it seem like T-port is all you can do with this power. If so, it all depends on whether you want to use this power in combat or not. If you do it will be expensive as you will not be able to use the megascale advantage. 3) As far as special EDM considerations or Desolidification go, the USPD talks about time travel teleportation and states that the character would not need to buy any additional modifiers or advantages to move through the time stopped world and would not need to take the "must move through intervening space" limitation because the character would have as much time as needed to get around or through any obstacles. I personally have never understood the use of desolidification to represent light-body powers as light is easily contained by a sheet rock wall, but that is just me. You have given us the opposite of what most players give...a lengthy SFX explanation without a clear definition of what you want the power to do. Knowing what you want to do with this power will help us advise you in putting it in Champions terms.
  13. Build the car/robot as a vehicle with a multiform, an END reserve and an onboard computer. The driver may have no powers whatsoever, but be full of skills. Sounds like a cool concept.
  14. Here's the problem I see with this. I know that my players would use this "Disadvantage" to their advantage. If they ran up against a villain that was giving them a hard time and this brick was on the ropes, they would intentionally set him off by attacking him at range and blowing up the bad guy. I rewrote Radium (from the CKC) for my campaigns with this effect see if any of it helps you...
  15. I think that's the point exactly. I have always steered away from Energy Projectors as characters because it always has felt so limiting compared to Martial Artists and Bricks. As if it wasn't enough that STR is the most undercosted ability in the HERO System, it also gets the advantage of being something real and much easier for players and GMs to come to grips with additional uses in game without paying points for them. As a player, I have always felt that EPs get the proverbial shaft. Recently I decided to try playing an EP, his name is Battlestar and he is a Malvan Gladiator turned hero. He has no flight or force field, but he does have an incredibly versatile array of EP Powers...from EBs with every possible advantage to Tunneling, Transformation and Change Environment and of course a hefty Power Skill. I think he is the most versatile EP I have ever seen and I still feel saddled by the fact that the Brick and the MA are more versatile in that they have MANY more options available to them. BTW, Battlestar has a 35 STR because he doesn't have Norm CHAR Max, which is fairly typical in my group. Even non-"brick" characters often have a 30 - 40 STR just because of all the benefits you get from STR. Of course it is always justiied in the character's background, but it still bothers me on some level. Sorry about the rant...
  16. I don't see how this would be resolved differently than an arm wrestling match. Using the (Active Points / 5) + 9 in place of the STR Roll. Setting a required effect of +5 to win (in other words, one side must succeed in accumulating a total bonus of +5 to win the contest). Example: Gigawatt (12D6 EB 60 Active Pts. - Lightning SFX) ~versus~ Pulse (10D6 armor piercing EB 75 Active Pts. - Radiation SFX) Both have same SPD, Pulse has a slightly lower DEX. PHA 12 - Gig holds action until Pulse fires, then Gig fires to Block. Gig makes a Block Roll and succeeds thus beginning the Power v. Power Rolls. Pulse has an EB Roll of 24- (75 ap / 5 = 15 +9 = 24-) while Gig has only 60 ap giving him a 21-, but Gig also has the Power Skill and makes his Skill roll, so the GM gives Gig a +1 to his EB Roll (22- total). Both participants roll...Pulse rolls a 12, and makes his roll by 12. Gig also rolls a 12 and makes his by 10. Score = Pulse +2 PHA 3 - Both participants spend END and Roll...Pulse rolls a 14, and makes his roll by 10. Gig rolls an 8 making his by 14. Score = Gig +2 PHA 5 - Both participants spend END. Pulse makes a PRE Attack while Pushing his EB and spending an additional 10 END. The PRE Attack is successful by PRE+10 so the GM gives Pulse a total bonus of +4 to the Power Roll. They Roll...Pulse rolls a 12 making his roll by 16. Gig rolls a 12 and makes his by 10. Score = Pulse +4...one more and he would have won! PHA 8 - Realizing he is in jeopardy of losing the contest, Gig falls back on his Power Skill again and asks the GM what penalty his roll would be at to spread his Blast one hex without losing any dice. The GM assigns a -3 penalty to the Skill Roll. Gig makes it dead on! The GM rules that this kind of shift in blast diameter will give Gig an extra +2 to his Power Roll. Pulse realizes Gig's trick, but cannot risk the END to push again and has no Power Skill of his own to pull tricks with. They Roll...Pulse rolls a lousy 16, but makes his roll by 8, Gig rolls a 12 and makes his roll by 12. Score = Even. PHA 10 - Gig can feel the momentum shift and decides to pour it on and push his EB providing a +2 to the Power Roll. Pulse wants to end the fight quickly because he is almost out of END, so he pushes as well. The GM notes that Pulse's push will require him to tap into his STUN for END and the GM requires Pulse to make an EGO Roll to exert himself in such a way. Pulse fails the EGO roll and cannot push. The combatants Roll...Pulse rolls a 13 and makes his roll by 11. Gig rolls a fantastic 8 making his roll by 16!!! Thus winning the contest by acheiving the established +5 result. Pulse's blast stream collapses and he takes the full brunt of Gigawatt's attack. The attack Stuns Pulse and knocks him into a nearby water tower so he can cool off. At least that's the way I see it happening in my game...hope that helps...
  17. Any sufficiently advanced technology would seem like magic to the locals. I don't know who said it first, but it applies here I think. Let's say there were creatures living in a two dimensional world that we could interact with. Now in this two dimensional plane of length and width, drawing a circle or square around one of these creatures would make an inescapable prison. Now we come along and peel that 2D creature up and place it outside the circle. To the inhabitants of that dimension, the prisoner would have disappeared and reappeared outside the prison wall...magic indeed!
  18. LMAO...very nice! I agree mostly with Kristopher and Fuzzy Gnome here...I think a Quantum Physics Manipulator character should go beyound simple EB & FF. This special effect is a great justification for all kinds of off the wall and seldom seen powers. Duplication...M-Theory Multiverse Duplicates Transformation Attack...Transform the very fabric of matter Dispel...Alter hard energy into something more harmless or shift the attack into another quantum layer altogether Summon...Pull items or creatures from other dimensions Remember your four fundamental forces are Gravity, Electromagnetism, Strong Nuclear and Weak Nuclear forces. Quantum Theory...Unified Field Theory...M-Theory tries to reconcile these forces in a single theory that works mathematically in multiple dimensions, beyond the 4 physical dimensions we can perceive height, width, length and duration. Controlling these forces could eventually lead you to controlling space / time as well. Hope that helps...
  19. Enforcer, I know you are a die hard herophile, but I honestly didn't think you would keep up this pace...keep proving me wrong please!
  20. In the campaign I run, there is a character with Absorbtion tied to his PD, actually the absobtion points go to STR and he has additional Armor bought with the PLim Only up to the active points generated in Absorb by the attack. I can say that short of attacking his Vuln, this guy is rarely put down.
  21. The sun also generates a HUGE gravity well to help pull the monolith in. I had a brick once who was suppossed to be able to do things like He-Man, Supes and other cartoon/comics strong guys do. I bought it this way: 75 STR base +25 STR, Only for Feats of Strength (throwing, lifting, etc. -1/2) Naked Advantage: Megascale 1" = 1 MKm on 100 STR (175 AP), Only for THrowing (-1), 3X Increased END (-1) Cost: 58 points Remember that Megascale can't be used in combat. In your example and using melessqr's mass stats and giving He-Man a 100 STR (at least for feats of strength). With a required 80 STR to lift the monolith this leaves He-Man 20 STR to generate throwing distance which for a standing throw equals 8" or Eight Million Km. Still only a fration of the distance to the sun, but well beyond orbit and on its way.
  22. There was a character named Charger in Classic Enemies who had a 20/50 ED. This was explained as his having a 50 ED unless an attack exceeded this defense, then it dropped to 20. In a 10D6 world, this meant that most caracters had to push to exceed his defense, thus overloading him and almost guarenteeing (sp?) a KO. I have the feeling this is similar to what you want. A character that can shrug off most attacks, but is at least stunned by a very powerful or pushed attack. In a 12D6 standard world, I would suggest you buy Armor (20/20) normally and buy Armor (+20/20) with the Limitation: Only v. Attacks that don't exceed total Defense of 40 (-1/4 maybe 1/2 with Generous GM). Example vanilla 12D6 attack = 36 STUN & no damage, good roll = 48 STUN & 28 STUN damage. Hope that helps
  23. Thanks Sketch... No Dr. D: Gotta save something for the expansion Foxbat Unique: Popular character who hasn't changed much over the years, marketing says Unique.
  24. The "Most Functional" Award would have to go to...Iron Man of course. Now if we don't count armored heroes, I would have to say the Unstable Molecular costumes of the Fantastic Four! I mean what other costuming could withstand nova flames, almost a mile of elasticity and still become invisible with the wearer?!?
  25. I agree with Souljourner...next time more science and less documentary. I would love to have seen them explain the way martial artists break objects without suffering injury. I have only rarely witnessed legitimate displays of this ability (where no spacers are used to lessen the force required) and I would love to see a physics-centric examination of the forces at work. I would also like to see more of the physiology they touched very briefly on in the Aikido and Jujitsu portions at the beginning of the program.
