  1. Re: Comic Book (genre) Conventions that don't work in Champions I agree with you. Not everyone does.
  2. Re: Comic Book (genre) Conventions that don't work in Champions IF, and only IF, the GM allows you to.
  3. Re: Comic Book (genre) Conventions that don't work in Champions A big one game-mechainics-wise is that you can't step between the villian and an a DNPC/innocent bystander and keep the villian from doing an 'end run' around you to take out the DNPC.
  4. Re: adding the Jack Ryan universe For his last book, The Teeth of the Tiger, he finally got a new editor that wasn't afraid to tell him that. The Teeth of the Tiger is back down to the size of The Hunt For Red October. But yeah, Clancy is famous for side-plots and foreshadowing that go exactly nowhere. Executive Orders was his worst example of it.
  5. Re: GMs how did you bring the PCs together? You have a vaild point there. On the other hand, if the GM wanted it to be so, then he could use this 'party hook.' Heck, even if the GM intended to brign him back, this could be an even better 'party hook.'
  6. Re: GMs how did you bring the PCs together? I think the point of this idea is that HoJ is dead. 100%, here's the body, yeah he's really, dead.
  7. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... This one comes up with distressing regularity in our games... "I abort to bleed."
  8. Re: shadowcats vehicular insanity shop: Orel Ulyanovsk Class CVN Good for them, I'm glad to see the British getting back into the Navy business in a serious way again. It was kind of depressing watching them cripple themselves in the '70s and '80s. But the timing seems a bit strange. Does anyone know the political reasoning behind this?
  9. Re: Limiting Combat Levels Sorry for the D&D speak, guys.
  10. Re: Limiting Combat Levels You want to encourage this guy to branch out? Make the first six game sessions all investigation/social. Even with six overall levels, he's going to be out of his element, because levels don't add into skills you don't have. Or you could just tell him no, that's too powerful for a starting character. If he doesn't get it, tell him that a first level fighter can't start with the equivalent of Weapon Focus, Weapon Specialization, Greater Weapon Focus, and Greater Weapon Specialization... In ALL weapons.
  11. Re: GMs how did you bring the PCs together? Ooooh. I like #3!
  12. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Reminds me of one from a ways back... < a weretiger after being shot with a 16d6 AP Energy Blast > "MEOUCH!"
  13. Re: shadowcats vehicular insanity shop: Iowa Class Commando Carrier What about muzzle brakes on the main guns... you could put 16" guns on a MUCH smaller hull.
  14. Re: Dr. Moreau Experiment I think you mean coup d'grace. Coup d'etat means to overthrow a leader, if I remember right.
  15. Re: Real world plot seed. Always at work trying new things!
  16. Re: Street Sweepers Before you say the Shadow would be perfect, sit down and build him. See how many points you end up with. The contacts and bases alone might kill your point limits.
  17. Re: Character: Experiment 626 Speaking of Evil Experiments... RUN FOR YOUR LIVES! THREAD NECROMANY RUNNING RAMPANT!
  18. Re: Character: Experiment 626 As for the Iron Giant... Some day I'm going to side down and do a little sound editing for it. I think "War Machine" by KISS would make an excellent soundtrack for the scene where the Giant finally shows it's full potential...
  19. Re: Character: Experiment 626 Lilo tries to teach him to be a model citizen... using Elvis as the model.
  20. Re: Dr. Moreau Experiment You're going to put all this on a 250 point character? The first thing I would reccomend is trim down your wish list a bit. You've got a LOT going on there, and I can't even begin to picture what this beast is going to look like, much less what kind of personality it might have. And because of the mixed bag of stuff, you are not going to qualify for a power framework on most of this. That is going to make this build very, very expensive. It'll be up to you if the end result after trimming is still worth playing. The first thing that you're probably going to loose is the poison. I haven't seen a good write-up for a poison that doesn't have a very high active point cost, way over 50 points for something that is only marginally effective. So unless the GM gives you permission to blow the lid off the AP limit, don't count on getting this one. It amounts to a BODY (or CON) drain NND, Does Body, with a 5 AP/day return (or alternately a RKA NND Does Body). Limitations include 'linked' to some form of physical killing attack and 'linked attack must do BODY.' And in most superhero games, on most targets, BODY from Killing attacks pretty much bounce. Add in 'delayed onset time' (neccssary to bring the cost down to a reasonable level) and combat will be over well before the target is seriously inconveneiced. I would reccomend looking in the UNTIL powers guide for a writeup on the 'streachy arms entangle' under the 'Streaching Powers. It looks like you have the right idea on the rest of it. 0 END Streaching should work fine, but Persistent and Inherent are the way to go if you have the points. In fact, 0 END, Persistent, and Inherent are good ideas for most the abilities in a genetically-engineered type build. Don't worry about limiting your clinging. Teflon isn't that common that you're likely to run into an entire wall coated in it - except for a anti-chimera deathtrap or someone who uses the world's BIGGEST skillet for a wall. E-Blast No Range sounds good for the electric attack. Don't bother with a Damage Shield, the low AP limits on your game means you'll only get 4 dice. A slightly more viable alternative would be a NND damage shield - at 2 dice. Otherwise just stick to the straight EB. Octopus skin is a tough one. Shapechange to touch, Images vs. sight? To be true to the genetic donor, 0 END Persistent is a must, but that could be dangerous (we lost a character with 0 END Persistent Invisibilty because no one could see she had been mortally wounded until after she died...). The tongue... too wierd. Do this on the arms. It'll be cheaper that way, too. Personally, I would reccomend having Dr. Moreau there do something a bit less ambitious. Pick one species and build a character around that; you might even get permission to use an EC on it. Cats, canines, alligators, turtles... all sort of possibilites exists. Maybe a Sabre-Tooth Tiger? A fully-aware Deinoycus (the critter that terrorzed three Jurrasic Park movies - yes, I know they called them Velociraptors, but the actual 'raptors were about three. feet. tall.) Heck, imagine a humanoid rabbit, and teach it Tae Kwon Do... all about the kicks... And doing that will give you a better idea about the personality as well.
  21. Re: Unique, interesting powers I used this power construct on a lion moreau character: Roar: (Total: 70 Active Cost, 29 Real Cost) Hearing Group Images 1" radius, +/-8 to PER Rolls (29 Active Points); Set Effect (Lion's Roar) (-1), No Range (-1/2) (Real Cost: 12) plus +20 PRE (20 Active Points); Limited Power Only for fear-based Presence attacks (-1), Linked (Images; -1/2) (Real Cost: 8) plus Double Knockdown (+1/4) for up to 60 Active Points of Presence Attacks (15 Active Points); Linked (Images; -1/2); No Range (-1/2) (Real Cost: 7) plus Telekinesis (4 STR) (6 Active Points); Limited Power Only to push away (-1), Linked (Images; -1/2), Reduced By Range (-1/4) (Real Cost: 2) The double knockdown was basically a tap into the avatistic fear of large predators that our simian ancestors would have had, causing weakness in the knees and momentary paralysis... The TK... well, if you're making a noise loud enough to be heard clearly 200' away, well, I imagine the amount of air expelled is impressive...
  22. Re: Dodge Motivational Poster And the guys in my group say Block is more useful...
  23. Re: Money Perk One of my recent characters had 5pts. wealth: Swiss Bank Account. It was money he took with him when he 'changed sides' and broke away from the villian organization he had been working for... But in order to preserve his capitol, he got jobs as a network engineer - and spent most of his time at work researching cases. (Yes, I know that most compaines have software that monitors the use of company computers. And who do you think installs and maintains this software? )
  24. Re: GMs how did you bring the PCs together? The current group isn't too bad. But we've had a LOT of other players go come and go for a reason... and that (being sheerly uncooperative for no particular reason) is usualy the big one.
  25. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... This one reminds me of a character I played in a D&D game long ago. He was an Eqyptian version of a Paladin, whose primary weapon was a club shaped like a ankh. This was so he could beat people over the head with his religion...
