  1. Re: A good quote for SF writers... Agreed. Would make a good T-Shirt as well heh. ~Rex
  2. Re: What Happened to the Hominids Who Were Smarter Than Us? Aliens/Atlanteans trumps Bushman methinks for an adventure seed. Especially if we ended up turning on and eating said helpful beings which of course is the reason for their Invasion and genocide campaign and cattle mutilations later on in the course of history. ~Rex
  3. Re: Wold Newton Hmmm. Haven't looked at the Angel Forum in a long time. I notice Peregrine said, "Edited for Personal Tastes..." I suppose that is one of the elements I'm attempting to polish up. Considering the linkages and work and donations through the entire Wold Newton site, it's a matter of, what have others edited, and why, in addition to usage of, and that sort of thing. I've found it to be an interesting Root research tool if anything else, and a lot of the contributors are really good. Still, I've been surprised at how many folks don't know of it in general. One of the things I have done for my current campaign for example, which is a melding of Every Genre, as opposed to Genre types (IE, yes there is the Niche of Batman, though he may not be Batman, and may lean more towards his golden age incarnation, the Niche is there though. Similar for Superman, though he leans more Hugo Danner, then Kal-El, that kind of thing. Think, Ed Brubakers Ingognito series for the glue that binds.), is have my Players go through that material, as well as read the books, etc etc ......mean thing to do, but by the 2nd session, they "got it", and then, dove into it. So I've found it handy, and am of course interested in seeing how it's been used by others as well. ~Rex
  4. Re: Wold Newton Oh yeah I dug though those, that's what prompted me to boot out another one. I'm using it as a spine structure for my current 6e campaign myself, so curious to see how it resurrects itself here and there amongst other people and perspectives. ~Rex

    Wold Newton

Anyone besides me ever really Dig into this material? Just curious if there are folks out there that are familiar with it. It's structure, and linkage is very similar to the campaign structure I'm using for my 6e game, to maintain, Pulp, in modern wrappings.... http://www.pjfarmer.com/woldnewton/Pulp.htm For perusal. Some very good reading material in there anyway. ~Rex
  6. Re: Free weekly online pulp novel Excellent material. Thanks for the "pointing out of". More Mad Props Indeed. ~Rex
  7. Re: 7 Sci-Fi Series Ripe for Movie Reboots Give me, a 6 million Dollar Man Movie, with someone of the Mold of Lee Majors (Not sure who the Lee Majors equivalent would be nowadays. Sam Worthington maybe?), and I would be all for it. Still. They DID try several reboots, and could only manage ratings when the originals were on the screen. Last Bionic Woman was OK, but really wasn't any better then the one previous where it was Sandra Bullock that was Bionic, or Previous to THAT, when they tried to do something with Austins Kid...... The two original shows worked because, they stayed in their respective Molds (Heck, even Max the bionic Dog worked). When they tried to get out of the Molds, and get fancier, and do more, folks lost interest. I kinda think it was because there are so many Special Effects nowadays, that they aren't Special anymore. Just expected. So if you wanted to do a Good 6 Million Dollar Man movie, you find an Actor of the Mold of Majors (heh), and then script something up, Like the Cyborg Novels, to get a bit of the Agent Element rolling. Sometimes, Less is More. ~Rex
  8. Re: OK this is just too cool: XKCD does a visual representation of Gravity Wells Rockstar......heh.... *Prints it off at work on 36x48 and hangs it on the wall.* ~Rex
  9. Re: If you Had to Pick, ONE (already) Setting, to Run in, What is it? Alien Legion was WAY ahead of it's time. Both in Art and Story. I actually miss it. ~Rex
  10. Re: Dragon-riders of Pern That's about what I was thinking. Especially since training is pretty important for the critters. Also, the various colors, have various tricks. The Greens and Blues (and Ruth), could turn on a wing tip. The Browns and Bronzes, Could Hose bigger areas when they blew flame. So a Green or a Blue Dragon has to be pretty nimble. One could almost give them a skill. Speed 4 seems about right at the top end (with the exception of Ruth). There's a lot of interesting info in the prequels for structuring their abilities. Originally, they weren't supposed to get much bigger, then a big Horse. Their flight (and the amount they can lift) is also telekinetic in most of it's nature (though they will fall out of the sky if they get a thread scored wing membrane), and what they can lift, well, they say in the books, a Dragon can lift anything it thinks it can lift (which can be hard to represent but eventually, a bunch of them grab the main drives of a star ship, poof over to the red star, and blow up the drives, said drives being big enough to affect the orbit of a PLANET (albeit a small one) and said Drives being Humongous to the extreme). Shaping up nicely though over all. ~Rex
  11. Re: If you Had to Pick, ONE (already) Setting, to Run in, What is it? Hmmmm. Farscape comes up a lot. The Genre of Mass Effect I could go with, I didn't really play the game though so it's mostly a non entity for me. ~Rex
  12. Re: Dragon-riders of Pern They're to slow. Average Speed things get killed in Thread Fall. ~Rex
  13. Re: Demo version of Champions Online available Considering the economy, and how Cheap in general the average video game player is (willing to spend 8K on the Game rig, but if you charge them 30 bucks for the game, stand back, and hope you have attack dog gear on), free bait, is always good bait. Most of the griping though seems to be more about the Lag that will be generated by allowing all the Free people in, and some of the other griping is more that the level should be limited but they should get to see More of the game, that sort of thing. Still, and awful lot of griping. Wish I could get them to answer the Why won't this work questions I've sent, Got all the updates, drivers, gear, downloaded it multiple times, and still, it says, see Billing Support. Annoying Free Bait is it. ~Rex
  14. Re: Percy Jackson and the Olympians: Urban Fantasy Campaign Fodder? Teen Champions is where I would put it. ~Rex
  15. Re: Demo version of Champions Online available It's always easier to land prey, with bait. My gripe, is said Bait, doesn't work, and the powers that be over there won't tell me what's wrong. ~Rex
  16. Re: If you Had to Pick, ONE (already) Setting, to Run in, What is it? I've noticed, that there is a lot of thought going on in the selections. When people even choose a "standard" like Trek, or Wars, it's always with a specific reason, TOS, or Clones, points of interest. I am really liking the Alex Toth setting myself, really tempting to write that up, heh. Nice call on Grimjack as well I was looking at that as an alternate, especially for it's gritty elements as well. Alita, I would also say is safe. There's nothing saying Cyberpunk can't be under the Sci Fi wings. ~Rex
  17. Re: The next District 9 about Alien Invasion? Heck, we got Elijah Wood for that, in a pinch Natalie Portman could double for him. ~Rex
  18. Re: What's in YOUR future history? Nifty thread thanks much. ~Rex
  19. Re: Demo version of Champions Online available That's really all I want out of it, but alas, my download says, Contact Billing ... not to mention, the Subscribers all seem to HATE the idea of a free demo ~Rex
  20. Re: Demo version of Champions Online available I downloaded it to play with the character generator. Of course, it doesn't work for some reason. Looking over the forums there, it seems I'm not the only one with the issue, though no one is saying what the issue is. ~Rex
  21. Re: What's in YOUR future history? Political can get to be just as messy though, especially since when you boil it down to basics, religious effects political drastically. ~Rex
  22. Re: What's in YOUR future history? Oh I've got more then a few players that are borderline obnoxious in their religious views. So Defining, the Winner, in the fight of Religious advancement can lead to some interesting arguments. Tying in Sci Fi advances to that fight, makes it even more interesting. ~Rex
  23. Re: If you Had to Pick, ONE (already) Setting, to Run in, What is it? Space Angel would also be a great Toth suggestion. Certainly a lot of Classic room there. To bad the Evil Utube disabled the Embedding. ~Rex
  24. Re: If you Had to Pick, ONE (already) Setting, to Run in, What is it? I could live with this one as well. Certainly a lot of options there to expand upon plus you could swipe everything else Moebius Art you wanted for visual bait. Not to mention, having a movie for movie day before the campaign, is very helpful. I managed to get people to play in my "Event Horizon" campaign for a couple of years after that movie hit. 5th Element, certainly would attract some strong players. ~Rex
  25. Re: If you Had to Pick, ONE (already) Setting, to Run in, What is it? Heh....I was a huge FGU fan back in the golden age of games.......Space Opera always cracked me up. Want to be, a Mobile Infantry Power Suit Wearing Vulcan Jedi Lensman that came from Dune? No Problem. They stole EVERYTHING for that setting, and somehow, managed to get it to work. You needed an odd sort of thought process to get the rules to work though on the vehicle end, and I remember generating Exploratory PC's, that could buy half the known universe with their bonus pay, but it was still a good time. Was sort of like, Traveller, on PCP. ~Rex
