  1. Re: If you Had to Pick, ONE (already) Setting, to Run in, What is it? Alien Legion is one I bring up to the Mongoose Publishing folk every time they ask me what I would like to see for a next project. BY FAR, it was one of my favorite comics back in the day and I miss it very much. I went with Well World though, because it allows me to do ANYTHING really. Still, Alien Legion, would be a very close second for me especially from a visual presentation, and the series sense of scale and balance and military T.O.E. is on the same level as anything you would see from David Drake or John Ringo. So, I will give Alien Legion some props and consideration. ~Rex
  2. Re: Lovelace -- The Origin Definitely worth, a few notches of Awesome. ~Rex
  3. Re: Dynamite Entertainment: Zorro, the Lone Ranger, Buck Rogers, Sherlock Holmes comi Just makes me want to dig out all my Wold Newton material heh...... Yeah the Lone Ranger stuff I was exceedingly impressed with. I haven't looked through the Holmes material because I own all the real books for those and it feels almost sacrilegious, but the Buck Rogers stuff I would say, is a Must Have. A VERY nice re-telling of the story, and a brilliant way to combine the Original look, with the modern Style. ~Rex
  4. Re: The next District 9 about Alien Invasion? A-37's a Good little plane. If I was gonna be flying in between city buildings, it's not a bad choice. ~Rex
  5. Re: New to Hero Any Genre, Any Time, Anywhere, and a Book set you could pimpslap Godzilla with. Welcome aboard. ~Rex
  6. Re: The next District 9 about Alien Invasion? Hey the Americans held off the Aliens in ID4 using nothing but f-18's, which is apparently the only real aircraft in our inventory. I'm sure Uruguay, could do some damage in their A-37's....Solid little plane that. ~Rex
  7. Re: If you Had to Pick, ONE (already) Setting, to Run in, What is it? Jack Chalker's Well World would be my Go-To in this situation. ~Rex
  8. Out of idle curiosity (as well as potential fodder for an article I am writing for a few other folks), if you had to Choose, ONE, and only one published setting (any format, TV, Comics, Novels, Movies, Radio etc), to run Star Hero in, what would you pick? Remember, you only get one. ~Rex
  9. Re: The next District 9 about Alien Invasion? That's 300 TRILLION over budget. We had to convert all the giant robots over to LEED certified power sources and set them up for Flex Fuel, with Wind and Solar Backups so the EPA wouldn't have a cow. ~Rex
  10. Re: Dynamite Entertainment: Zorro, the Lone Ranger, Buck Rogers, Sherlock Holmes comi Both of those books are very good as well. Dynamite has an interesting level of continuity and quality. ~Rex
  11. Re: Fantasy or Pulp? Ah but then you run into the fun stuff, like Doc Sidhe. Now, you have people turning to their Magic User, AND, it's still Pulp. Pulp, is all in the delivery. Sci Fi, is a Fast Ball. Fantasy, is a Curve Ball. Pulp, is a Breaker Ball. Doesn't really fit in the pitch rotation very well, but you can't win a game without one. ~Rex
  12. Re: I'm building a gold dragon on 350 points Interesting Build.....plays well enough. Tend to agree Teeth aren't a weapon element. Lean towards the Analyze as well. ~Rex
  13. Re: I'm building a gold dragon on 350 points Not a hundred percent sold on the way the armor works. I'd take a second look at the relationship between campaign damage and the defenses of the dragon as well. ~Rex
  14. Re: The next District 9 about Alien Invasion? Can't go wrong....Lot of giant robot explodey stuff. I like. ~Rex
  15. Re: Rewatching The Lost Room... It is an interesting thing to watch. Should be out there as a collective DVD since the best way to watch it, is one after the other. It does borrow a lot from other arena's, but it meshes them together very well. ~Rex
  16. Re: Dynamite Entertainment: Zorro, the Lone Ranger, Buck Rogers, Sherlock Holmes comi Invaders vs the Avengers (or visa versa, I lean towards the Invaders out of habit, because Invaders > Avengers) was one of the best reads in comics this year. I do believe, they have a GN planned for it. Great Stuff. ~Rex
  17. Re: Fantasy or Pulp? Pulp. In fact, Solomon Kane is one of the definitive Pulp Examples given in creative writing courses, and you can follow that path, directly to characters such as the Lone Ranger, the Shadow, and Doc Savage, not to mention, the myriads of other things out there. Pulp, is a style of Atmosphere. That's why so many famous Pulp Characters, seem to exist as parts of so many different settings. Pulp, has nothing to do with the Date. That's just when most of the more known stories were written/took place. There are just as many examples of Modern Pulp, as well (Ed Brubaker's Incognito for example). Pulp, quite simple is the Grand daddy of ALL genre's. It's the root. ~Rex
  18. Re: What is the best thing to Drain to incapacitate? Drain PD/ED is always fun as well. ~Rex

    Zeppelins

Re: Zeppelins Anyone ever read a novel from Dean Ing called "The Big Lifters"? Fun read, usable for multiple genre's. A must read for any LTA fan. ~Rex
  21. Re: Army Again Turns to Depleted Uranium for New Weaponry Not something you want to drop on your foot I can attest to that. ~Rex
  22. Re: Dragon-riders of Pern For those not intimately familiar with the series (As there are something in the neighborhood of 20 books), there is a rather good wiki for just the basic information (though a few pieces of it are a bit twitchy, I may hop in and correct those) http://pern.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page. Just remember. Pern Dragons poop out of their Tails. It's all in the little details. ~Rex
  23. Re: Dragon-riders of Pern Heh.....well if it's stab central, not a problem. We can make a grand contest of it if you wish. ~Rex
  24. Re: Dragon-riders of Pern No, the Dragons can speak quite well to their riders.....Fully 50% of The White Dragon for example, is conversation between Ruth and Jaxom. They're on the high end of telepathy, and Empathy, as well as Teleportation and Time Travel. Hence why it is VERY important, to actually read all of the novels. Fire Lizards, tend to be strictly Empathic though. That trait was developed into full blown telepathy over the course of the Dragons being made. ~Rex
  25. Re: Dragon-riders of Pern The Dragons are as smart as people, some of them are even smarter (Ruth for example). They tend not to think LIKE humans though, and are subject to Instinctive drives. The Fire Lizards, are about as smart as a chimp, but more focused intellect wise, like a Parrot. DOLPHINS, are revealed to be REALLY freaking smart beyond the norm of thinking, in later books, but their Mindset uses different frames of reference. The nice thing about the book series, is it's segmented off. So you can easily get all the Dragon Info, from one set the Fire Lizard from another set the Watch Weyr's from another set the Planet itself from another series , THEN, you can get the Prequel material that really goes into detail on the origin of the species so to speak, then the Dolphins, and a few other odds and ends here and there. Best thing to, is you can get your hands on all the books at the Library, so you don't have to actually BUY them. ~Rex
