8. Re: Superhero Generator Project So, I added Only In Secret Identity to most of his powers to represent the need to get into his armor. This makes him virtually useless out of the power armor for anything other than scientist stuff, but allowed me to add a bit more defense to the poor guy when in the "armor". Left about 14 points open. Will refine more when I get time. 10. Re: How Long Does It Take To Fall? Master is often used for males and females since "Mistress", its feminine version, has a very different and negative connotation now a days, namely that of a man’s extra marital lover, and more recently whole leather and whips “mistress” thing.
11. Re: Superhero Generator Project This is a very strange "Power Army" character I rolled. For those of you not familiar with the Superhuman Generator, when you roll the Power Armor archetype you re-roll and get several options, one of which is to build the power armor character by rolling for the Energy Projector packages, which is what happened. So here he is: Power Armor Guy - "Re-roll As Energy Projector / Air Support" VAL CHA Cost Total Roll Notes 18 STR 8 18 13- HTH Damage 3 1/2d6 END [2] 23 DEX 39 23 14- OCV 8 DCV 8 18 CON 16 18 13- 13 BODY 6 13 12- 25 INT 15 25 14- PER Roll 14- 13 EGO 6 13 12- ECV: 4 10 PRE 0 10 11- PRE Attack: 2d6 10 COM 0 10 11- 9 PD 5 9/13 9/13 PD (0/4 rPD) 9 ED 5 9/13 9/13 ED (0/4 rED) 6 SPD 27 6 Phases: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 12 REC 8 12 36 END 0 36 31 STUN 0 31 6 RUN 0 6" END [1] 2 SWIM 0 2" END [1] 4 LEAP 0 3 1/2" 3 1/2" forward, 1 1/2" upward CHA Cost: 135 Cost POWERS 75 Energy Powers: Multipower, 75-point reserve - END= 7u 1) Basic Blast: Energy Blast 10d6, Reduced Endurance (0 END; +1/2) (75 Active Points) - END=0 7u 2) Explosive Blast: Energy Blast 10d6, Explosion (+1/2) (75 Active Points) - END=7 7u 3) Piercing Blast: Energy Blast 10d6, Armor Piercing (+1/2) (75 Active Points) - END=7 4u 4) Deadly Blast: Killing Attack - Ranged 3d6 (45 Active Points) - END=4 12 Toughness: Armor (4 PD/4 ED) - END=0 8 Radio-Sense: Radio Perception - END=0 19 Spaceworthy: Life Support (Safe in High Pressure; Safe in High Radiation; Safe in Intense Cold; Safe in Intense Heat; Safe in Low Pressure/Vacuum; Self-Contained Breathing) - END=0 30 Space Traveler: Multipower, 30-point reserve - END= 3u 1) Flying: Flight 15" (30 Active Points) - END=3 3u 2) Faster-Than-Light Travel (3 Light Years/day) (30 Active Points) - END=0 POWERS Cost: 175 Cost SKILLS 10 +2 with all Science Skills 3 Scientist 1 1) SS: Dimensional Engineering 11- (2 Active Points) 1 2) SS: Dimensional Engineering 11- (2 Active Points) 1 3) SS: Dimensional Engineering 11- (2 Active Points) 1 4) SS: Dimensional Engineering 11- (2 Active Points) 1 5) SS: Dimensional Engineering 11- (2 Active Points) 1 6) SS: Dimensional Engineering 11- (2 Active Points) 1 7) SS: Dimensional Engineering 11- (2 Active Points) 10 Custom Skill Champions Everyman Skills 0 1) Acting 8- 0 2) Climbing 8- 0 3) Concealment 8- 0 4) Conversation 8- 0 5) Deduction 8- 0 6) AK: Home Country or Region (Everyman Skill) 11- 0 7) KS: Player's Choice 8- 0 8) Language: Native Language (idiomatic) (4 Active Points) 0 9) Paramedics 8- 0 10) Persuasion 8- 0 11) PS: Character's Job, Hobbie or area of Interest (Everyman Skill) 11- 0 12) Shadowing 8- 0 13) Stealth 8- 0 14) TF: Common Motorized Ground Vehicles, Everyman Skill SKILLS Cost: 30 Cost PERKS 10 Vehicles & Bases PERKS Cost: 10 Value DISADVANTAGES 15 Hunted: Personal Enemy 11- (As Pow, Capture/Kill) 20 Psychological Limitation: Code Versus Killing (Common, Total) 15 Social Limitation: Secret Identity (Frequently, Major) 100 100 more points in disads. 12. Re: Superhero Generator Project Well, sorry for leaving this for so long. I’ve been making a character for a Hero Central game, but I’m still working on this project. I had a detailed background in my head for the martial arts character, but quite frankly my character histories tend to be several pages long and I thought it would be better to move on to the next character. Also, if anyone else would like to share their experiences or characters created using the Random Superhuman Generator that would be great.
13. Re: How Long Does It Take To Fall? Afterthought: Our whole conversation has pretty much become inane.
14. Re: How Long Does It Take To Fall? I didn't say anyone would take 20 minutes doing that problem. I specifically said doing a much more difficult problem. It was not part of my argument about this being simple or not, it was simply an observation on the futility of trying to demonstrate time oriented things on a forum. I find it funny but bordering on inane. The other definitions I give are relevant. I don't just reiterate the definition; I examine how they apply to the situation. It’s ‘simplicity itself’ to see that the equation does not fit the definition of “simple” P.S. Almost all high school level math is "simple" with a calculator.
15. Re: How would you stat up gods in Hero System? Sounds kind of like the Eternals.
16. Re: How Long Does It Take To Fall? And you completely ignore the rest of the examples and definitions. Anyway... You say: "t=sqrt( 2y/g)" and state that g is 10 and then jump to "t=sqrt(y/5)" with no explanation of why g which is 10 became 5 or what happened to the 2 in the equation. Now my understanding of math is such that I understand the step you skipped, but a fair number of people wouldn't (or at least would have to stop and think about it a moment. You can't even give a truly "simple" example because you're so intent on making it "simple" that you are leaving things out for the reader to figure out on their own). And then, skip the process of figuring out the Square Root. Here's the most common method for finding the square root of a number without a calculator: That doesn’t seem simple to me and you have to be able to do that to figure out the former equation. Unless you assume a calculator present; this is likely but not guaranteed. I’ve played whole campaigns (granted, not with Hero System) where no one, not even the GM, ever whipped out a calculator. Again, complex, compound, and in the context of using it on the fly, during game play, not easy. It just doesn’t qualify as simple. Also, when dealing with flying characters I’m usually measuring height by how far they’ve moved so in hexes. Now this is easy to turn to meters, by multiplying by two, but it is another step. Also, like many players in the USA I do height of people, buildings, landmarks, et cetera in feet, (or maybe yards, but usually feet). So, turn feet or hexes into meters, then do a two or three part equation. Then, if necessary figure damage (I know the OP didn’t ask for that, but it would usually be part of the same situation). Does not sound simple to do without interrupting play. At least not compared to looking at a chart… Personally I think of math that is simple as anything I can do with nothing more than a pen and paper in less than a minute. So, that’s most addition, subtraction, multiplication, even most long division as long as you always stop at the same number of decimals out (I usually only do 4). Then again, this is totally opinion on my part. Simple is subjective. Also, I like how you do an example “on the fly” over the internet. I’m sure you did it quickly and in your head, but anyone could spend 20 minutes doing a much more difficult problem and then post it as an example of doing it “on the fly”. EDIT: Decimals, not Decibels...(stupid spell check)
17. Re: How would you stat up gods in Hero System? If “Not subject to mortal law” is a fringe benefit, then wouldn't that mean PCs would never have a legitimate reason to oppose them? Also “Not subject to normal physical laws” describes pretty much every power in the book, doesn’t it? (At least without foci involved.) Perhaps you could better explain what these would actually entail?
18. Re: Sword MA and question. It goes against Hero's philosophy of only being able to abort to defensive actions. Being in control of a grappling situation (in other words, making a grab) is not a defensive action. If you want that option you can hold an action in case you need to block, thus allowing you to use the grapple portion of the attack just like it happens in real martial arts all the time.
19. Re: How Long Does It Take To Fall? One of the definitions of “Simple” is “Not Compound”. I didn’t think I had to elaborate more than I had above, but I guess what I said above wasn’t enough. Compound: y = (1/2) g t^2 t = sqrt(2 g y) Two or more actions or functions=Compound Compound ≠ Not Compound. So: Compound ≠ Simple Another definition was “Not Complicated”. You keep insisting that I definitively state what parts of the equation are not simple, but you cannot point out what parts of the equation are not complicated. You point at parts and say “what’s not simple about division, what’s not simple about multiplication, what’s not simple about finding the square root of somethin”. Here’s the problem though, asking me what isn’t simple about them is not the same as you explaining what isn’t complicated about them. Also, a part of something can be simple without the whole of it being simple. Multiplication and division are, arguably simple (I would call them simple, but wouldn’t insist it in the face of someone who felt otherwise). Getting a square root it already arguably less simple, but that’s debatable and more about opinion. Even if each part is simple, the whole is compound and thus complex and thus “not simple” (or at the very least not “simplicity itself”). A wheel is simple. A bicycle is not. Putting all of those pieces together (to make a compound/complex item) is complicated. (Yeah, I know, horrible example, but I'm tired and it was all I could think of at the moment. I think the point stands anyway.) Perhaps the most important part of my argument for it not being simple is the context in how it is being used. Here it is again: Context matters. When someone asks “How do I figure this out this situation in my game” and they are given a raw equation with no explanation, they not only have to figure out how to apply the equation and then remember (or record) the equation for later use, they also have to use the equation, on the fly, during an adventure, without interrupting play. This does not qualify as “easy to use”. I had said all of this already. Hopefully that clarifies it and you realize that I was using the dictionary to support my arguments, which, consequentially, you ignored the first time through. As I already said I am fully capable of understanding it. Not everyone will be. I am capable of understanding many things I don’t consider simple. I also wanted to reiterate that I’m not trying to talk down to you either. I’m using the dictionary as a basis to support my position. I don’t see anything supporting your position other than an insistence that it is simple if you just ‘open your mind’ or ‘think about it’.
20. Re: Compound Powers in a MP Well, yeah, that's what those powers do...or at least it's what he was trying to do with them. Put what power (not Power) was he trying to make? A Force Field so bright and shiny it makes it hard to see or aim at him?
21. Re: Compound Powers in a MP It's not being in a single multipower framework slot that makes the build wierd. The build itself is just wierd. I mean, does he know a 1" radius is just the hex he's standing in? Plus, like you said, no personal immunity. It's just a really strange build. Do you have any idea what effect the player was trying to model?
