Clonus
Re: Golden Age Resources: Superweapons of WW II I don't have a link but I do know that the Germans did do some work on a suborbital antipodal bomber which would in theory drop a "dirty bomb" on North America. Kirby
Re: Golden Age Resources: Superweapons of WW II Both Japan and Germany were working on atomic bombs. Japan had two submarines designed to carry aircraft (one carried two, the other five, I believe) to attack the Panama Canal. England had plans for Habakkuk, a feasible aircraft carrier made from an iceberg (price and range made it very limited, however). The U.S. came somewhat close to using bats with incendiary devices against the Japanese homeland.

Well it could float and it really was hard to melt the stuff, but the sheer mass of it would have made it nigh impossible to move.

clsage
Re: Golden Age Resources: Superweapons of WW II More Videos: ? Back in the late 1960's (I think it was) there was a novel whose name escapes me that dealt with the "Trinity Test Failure" concept....As I recall the plotline was that the US used incendiaries and such to simulate the effects at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. And then, after keeping the secret for years, had to deal with the possibility that the Soviets had actually had success in making an A-Bomb. Of course, this was before most people had any real info on Klaus Fuchs and such. So the 'suspension of reality factor' was much lower. Wish I could recall the name of the book and/or author....... -Carl-

The Japanese actually DID try using balloons with incendiaries to attack North America ("Operation Fu-Go"). Then of course there are the Russian "dog mines" (Dogs trained to run under tanks; they were to have remote detonated explosives attached to their backs, only trouble was they preferred RUSSIAN tanks !) SSgt Baloo
Re: Golden Age Resources: Superweapons of WW II Obviously the dogs were counterrevolutionaries. The Russians trained the dogs with Russian tanks. The dogs ran under the Russian tanks. Who is the dumb one, the dog who does what he is trained to do, how he was trained to do it or the guys who didn't figure the kind of tanks used in training would matter to the dogs. Great idea (except from the dog's perspective), BAD implementation.
