Darren Watts
"I’ve wrestled with alligators, I’ve tussled with a whale. I done handcuffed lightning And threw thunder in jail." Sounds like a guy who could fight Superman! This week, Explain This, Comics Guys!! takes on "Superman Vs. Muhammad Ali," certainly one of the strangest and most wonderful comics ever made. I think we're going to put up Kirby next week, and I'm currently nearing the end of writing/researching the History of Image, which will take at least 2 eps and maybe 3. Tasker and I are also in the down times recording our character-by-character look at the unsung and misunderstood members of the Avengers. Dunno when those will go up - probably when cons come back and time becomes a pressure again. dw

Another result of listening has been a rekindling of my interest in comics. The downside is current industry and their, say we phrase it, vocal fans immediately stamp any interest out of existence. Especially for the CASUAL reader. Too bad, but there it is. I do look forward to the podcasts. Darren Watts
Darren Watts
After the champagne is put away, maybe take a moment and check out our dopey little comicbook podcast. Our latest episode is "Jack Kirby Vs. The World," in which we discuss how a man so universally admired as an artist and liked as a person kept finding himself battling the people he worked with. https://explainthis.podbean.com/ mattingly

I wouldn't have thought of this subject as being interesting until I listened to that first one. Now it is one of the few shows of any description, tv to movies to, to now podcasts I look forward to. Unlike the majority of them, it actually has a topic and (gaspers!) manages to actually discuss the topic. This cast is actually well researched and (another gaspers!) obviously has a script. If only a podcast existed that discussed RPG systems. I've lost days of time I will never recover searching. Hint for anyone that might be involved with a podcast claiming to discuss RPG systems. No one cares about your cat or the in joke related to that con you attended 15 years ago. And when the cast ends and I still have no idea on its mechanics or play but do know (read in whiney tone) "it was hard...". Then yiu have failed. This podcast is awesome and I really hope they produce a RPG system review one someday. But to be truthful, I'd listen to any podcast they decided to make. Darren Watts
OK, well, this episode is well behind the others in listens after a week. Does everybody hate Image? Christopher R Taylor
Looking forward to part 2, but the copy I downloaded had a bunch of messed up audio artifacts, like it was a bad dl or the recording got screwy. Was really interesting though, more going on behind the creation of Image than I had understood. I liked a lot of the early stuff Image put out but it was extremely obvious in a hurry that these guys were riding on Jolt Cola and youth thinking they could pants their way through years of comic book stories when they had only a few months of ideas. Darren Watts
Yeah, the first version we put up last week went weird for some reason. We put up a fixed version a few hours later. dw
Christopher R Taylor
I wonder what happened to those art pages that were bought at Sotheby's. My guess is that those eager speculators took a bath. Would anyone pay more than $49k for a McFarlane Spider-Man art page, even back at the collector market highs??
