Alternate Earth Characters #14

Your GM has announced he's going to run an alternate Earth game and he wants you to make a modified version of your character to fit his "Alternate Earth Setting. The GM is being deliberately unclear about whether you'll be playing your alt character or if your regular character will be facing them.

So what is different about your character from

Cyber-Earth

It's just like real Earth but the world is run by Corporations the world's governments are figureheads. While the majority of people work tedious lives in virtual offices the dark underbelly of society thrives on decadence funded by a black market of stolen data.

Audra Blue is home! :D Actually, I like her better already as a unique, somewhat freakishly scary hacker with cyber implants, rather than just being one of the crowd. But frankly, her life wouldn't be much different over all; She already has a gang as enemies and a hacker crew as allies.

Anthem would pursue crime with the same fervor. She'd probably pay more attention in computer class though. She would not have any cybernetics.

Uncle Slam would likely have a lot of enhancements instead of some of the powers he has now. He'd still be a hand-to-hand combat machine with a long war history, martial arts training, and a sort of turn toward philosophy.

Kenneth Clarke would probably work for a corp as a high paid scientist while he secretly used the HUSKY avatar to fight the system from virtual reality. If Kenneth was ever discovered and eliminated the hulking robot known as HUSKY which had his donwloaded intellect would activate when he didn't perform his regualr memory download. If the corporations didn't like HUSKY as a hacker avatar they will come to be terrfied by the unstoppable juggernaut that is unleashed after they believe him terminated.

"Strike me down and I shall arise more powerful than you can comprehend."

Cyberflippant:

He's already a modified human. However, as an ex-athlete normally, his origin would need modding.

Perhaps a netrunner whose powers damaged his neural pathways upon activation, barring him from the 'net even with the best cyberware, who was rebuilt in another dimension...

He'd be more brains, and more powers focused. He alsp wouldn't have had to abandon his first love. So he'll be a hacker with dimension warping powers...

Wraith is already a hacker. In this world, he'd just be better and more amped. His family fortune would have been lost, but the power to get data from the dead would make him a wealthy man anyway....

Armando: This is interesting because Armando cannot use computers; he can never get them to do what he wants and they crash within minutes of his attempting to make use of them in any way (he is similarly incompetent when it comes to first aid "Armando, could you get that victim's pulse?" {RRRIIIPPPP} "Got it, where should I put it?"). So he would be an underground guerilla type fighter against the system.

Crimson Tide: Probably a cyborged out corporate hit man.

Sword Dancer: Chief of security for Korea, Inc.

Gangway: Super speed plus high level mechanical engineering skills? She is the black market in high tech.

Luna: Undoubtedly CEO of the largest, most powerful corporation on the planet.

"Alternate"? Sounds like I just need to look out the window.

Seriously, this isn't much of a change. Is the tech level considerably higher? That seems to be implied, but you didn't mention it.

Starguard -- hmmmm. Innocent, cosmically powerful young woman with a past she can't remember, suddenly dumped headlong into a violent dystopian cyberpunk world, causing great change and consternation?

Heh. How many animes and manga have been written with this plot? :)

Baron von Darien -- enormously rich, very powerful, extremely mysterious... and probably with a big mad on for 'the system', as he sees the rampant amorality and predation of the ancient vampire counts being inflicted upon the masses of humanity yet again... only this time, by their fellow humans.

Dr. Pain -- Well, even cyberpunk worlds still have pro wrestling, although the wrestlers definitely have more cyberware and bioware...

Daniel "Warp" Stone: He's already the son of Franklin Stone, founder and CEO of ACI, as well as the owner of a significant minority of ACI stock himself, as well as a multi-billionaire playboy with holdings and interests in a number of different firms in Millenium City.

Practically nothing changes except that he's developed his business and law skills even more to adapt to the even more cutthroat world. He'd still try to use his powers and resources for good. Probably play even more hardball though to suit the tone of the new world.

Spectrum: Tired of his powers beings used merely to advance various business interests by the corporations which have reduced the United States to a mere puppet, he resigns his Air Force commission and becomes an independent hero so he can truly serve the interest of his country and fellow citizens.

Or he might just leave Earth and go off in search of the Progenitors who transformed him if he had been truly soured on the entire world and convinced trying to be a hero is hopless. But that's an unlikely scenario.

Mystic: The difference in the mundane world shouldn't change the fact that he's a canidate for Archmage. Destiny is destiny.

FlameJet:: FlameJet IS one of those corporate figureheads. Though his organization DOES buy up and rebuild dystopic sections of the downside into more upscale settings. He has had cyvberware installed to stabilize his powers, though when he really pushes, he has been known to overload and burn out the governers, reverting to his normal plasma tempered excesses.

Lightning:: Lightning is IN his heyday. His mostly useless electrical abilities would be terribly powerful against cybered personnel in the real world. His senses and hyperspeed would make him a datajack candidate and absolutely deadly in the net, especially once he found a way to use his electrical abilities to BOOST his cyberspace presence and powerlevels . His system breaking abilities would be augmented by access to more localized power than the web could generate. He'd be THE man to see in the underworld for getting information out of cyberweb hardpoints, and would likely not need a full cyberdeck to interface with the net.

Hmmmm, let's see....

Adrenline would be a freelance hack-jockey who can control the speed that he can program a system while also slowing down and tiring out his opponent.

Realm would be a government employee that actively searches out virus programmers and hackers.

Hecabus would be the leader of a powerful counter culture that bothed embraced the power of the establishment and yet fought the establishment for free control the domain.

Vitus would have to be an accidental AI, created by criminals who were hoping for something much more useful to their plans. Fractious, difficult to control, but absolutely devestating to any software and systems he does decide to invade. Not particularly interested in humans, but grudgingly grateful to whoever if giving him disk space for his back-up memories.

Mike the Demoness: Subjected to a 'soul-ripper' software, his mind has beep uploaded into the Net against his will, while someone downloaded themselves into his original body. Taking the online avatar of a flaming demoness (to express his rage, not to mention swapping genders to throw off anyone hunting him), he searches for the software required to return him to meatspace, and his original body to return to, and happens to right a few wrongs as she hops from website to website...

Rubber Mousie: I'll probably go with the 'clueless civilian abducted by a megacorp, experimented on, turned into something strange, escaped, now seeks revenge' cliche.

Well, since we likely won't keep aliens...

Cyrande is a princess from Meso-America or South America. Beautiful, above it all, and has seen, though sheltered, a lot of the horrors that men aflict upon men. A cover personality that says and does the appropriate things for the super rich and powerful...but her servants are full of people she's rescued and helped.

Artemis.... is a crazed monster, who shows up occasionally to rip cities apart, then disappear, a protean beast who is drawn to destroy animal labs and genetic monstrosities or prevent destruction of the last few wild places.

Nox- is a rumor, something people whisper about in the dark of night. An occasionally glimpsed ghost in the machine, that gives the ordinary people a chance. The sudden failure or appearance of lights that gives the victim a chance to get away. The lords of the world dismiss it...but then again, they never think about what the gears in their machines know.
