Derek Hiemforth
(Apologies if someone else has already thought of this and I just didn't see it.) Well, really there's only one possible nickname for Fred's shorter sidekick... Barney.

Thats impressive
Killer Shrike
Plus I like the big-purple-"educational"-dinosaur implication of this too. Nice. *(I like my allusions multi-leveled)
Lord Liaden
It has been suggested before, and I can certainly see the rationale behind it. OTOH nowadays when I hear "Barney" I suffer traumatic flashbacks to an insufferable purple dinosaur, so I'm a little reluctant to adopt it. Really, Sidekick is practically a nickname in itself; its only drawback is that it's a little long to write. I've seen Steve refer to it as SK several times, though. Killer Shrike
We could get all leet with it and call it ^K!K I suppose
Lord Liaden
I heard that Andy Matthews has been calling his design for the Sidekick cover "Butterfly HeroMan" (if you've seen the cover you'll understand). If Butterfly HeroMan is also a Sidekick, then he really needs to be named Arthur.

Dust Raven
I suggested that we could call Sidekick "Mini-FREd" but I think I like Arthur better.

Lord Liaden
Just to elaborate on SirViss's observation: "The Tick" is a comic book/animation/tv series satire of superheroes. The Tick is big, very strong, very tough, noble of purpose, and completely clueless. Arthur is his more sensible sidekick, sometimes calling himself "Moth Man" for his mechanical wings which are his only power.

Steve Long
While I'm going to go on using 5ER, if you give it a new nickname you're going to have to come up with an acronym. For example, BARNEY might be Basically Awesome Rules for NEwcomers and Youngsters.
JmOz
Why 5er? I could see that for the revised edtition bt SK would make more sense...

In fact IIRC 5ER is how Steve has been referring to the upcoming revised main rulebook (which is a whole 'nother thread - three of them in fact). Mayhap Mr. Long momentarily confused his Revised Big Book with his Little Book.

Andrew Cermak
I gotta say, I don't see a lot of utility in a nickname that takes just as long to pronounce and nearly as long to type as the actual full name. I also find it ironic; Sidekick is intended to break down the barriers that keep new players from trying the Hero System, and here people are trying to create an alternate name for the book that can only serve to confuse those same new players. Of course, there has to be some form of mystery that new players feel awed about.
