Does your character blog?

Mutant for Hire

Recommended Posts

For those who are in fact running characters in modern times, does your character have:

1. Fan web pages?

1a. Does your character look at these fan webpages at all?

2. A personal web page?

2a. Does your character maintain a blog? If so, what would be on it?

3. What web pages, if any, does your character go to?

4. What mailing lists/forums does your character go to?

(hoping this thread will not go down in flames and hard feelings like others)

Re: Does your character blog?

a) Starguard -- she's not even computer literate. Yet.

B) Dr. Pain -- has an official fan page... and a webmaster to run it for him. He might contribute things to the 'Doctor's Orders!' column feature on his official fan page, but he'd just bang them out in MS Word and his webmaster would format it for him.

c) Baron von Darien -- is *very* computer literate -- a master hacker, actually. (At his age, he doesn't need to sleep much even in the daytime, so he has a lot of spare time to potter around the library and pick things up.)

He wouldn't blog, simply because he likes to keep well in the shadows, but he reads blogs on a regular basis. They're useful information sources.

Rock Bottom: 1. Not individually, yet. 2. Technically, yes, but he never actually does anything with it. 3 & 4. Science and Johns Hopkins social event information. His ML subscriptions are under an alias.

Kira Midori: 1. Yes, dozens of them. 1a. Not usually. She finds her fans scary, especially the drooling obsessives. She has a hacker friend go on every so often to "deal with" the porno sites. 2. Not as such, though she does contribute to her team's website. 3 &4. Time travel, ESP and police matters, under an alias.

Talion: 1. Not really, though he often gets mentioned in lists of the negative sort. 1a. Yes, he obsessively searches for mentions of himself, and really appreciates the rare positive statements. 2. Yes. It crashes constantly. 2a. Yes, and his novel in (glacial) progress. Too bad the site crashes so often. 3. Dating sites, webcomics. 4. Numerous comic book, SF and fantasy lists. Most people don't believe he's the real Talion.

Re: Does your character blog?

I wrote a Blog for Audra Blue as a writing exercise. It gave me a chance to toss down any ideas that came my way during the day. It's still up, but way out of date now. And of course I'll end up rewriting the history later, so right now it just serves as notes. But in-game, she's too personal to let anyone know much about her. There aren't even many photos, and certainly not recent ones. There are a number of webpages about the base she maintains. The base's network is the number one internet destination for hackers, whose computers sometimes suffer mysterious meltdowns and spontaneous blankings (if she's in a bad mood). Everyone likens it to climbing Everest.

She's also an information broker, so she surfs everything, compiling data all the way and cross-checking facts for accuracy.

Anthem does not have the time to do anything like that. And since she's a teenage girl she probably has a few admirers, but she's not aware of this, having no time to surf the internet (and not having the money to even buy an internet connection).

Uncle Slam is a well documented historical figure. He has a number of fan pages from WWI and II buffs, as well as a few modern fans. He maintains no official website because he's not interested in self-promotion.

Re: Does your character blog?

I joke with my players from time to time that they could just 'look it up on www.supervillain.com.'

None of them has tried the address yet, so I haven't yet decided what is actually there...

But it will have to be something, just because, well... it has to be.

There was an old issue of Impulse where he found a villain's residence by going to the guy's homepage to get directions, and I've always wanted to do something silly like that.

Yep, that website name is too good to go to waste.

Soldier, the only Champs character I'm currently running, is still figuring out this whole "Internet" thing. Raised in near-isolation in a severe police state (see Kurt Russel's movie, Soldier for a general idea of his upbringing), he's fascinated by the variety, diversity, and oddity of Americans.

Would he have his own fan page? Not likely. Primarily because he's still in the bush leagues... more than a Neighborhood Hero, but not big enough to rate more than page 6 in the tabloids.

Re: Does your character blog?

Thank you for the idea; the thought had never occurred to me, but I can see it having uses...

The Crown Agents as a team would certainly have a Net presence, if only because of HM Government's drive to get all departments Web-enabled ASAP. (The team is a joint Home Office / Defence project.) Of the current members, probably only Bluebird has the personality and the tech nous to do a blog (and possibly also something for her late father's team, the British Lyons). Whether she would be allowed to do so, I fear, would depend on how the Powers That Be interpret the Official Secrets Act...

Flippant:

The team probably has an official webpage. Flippant himself doesn't know of one though../ no, he's not a blogger, and he's not a 'net person. Probably no fansites, yet.

Estatua:

Probably has the fansites. He wouldn't have a site of his own, and probably doesn't use the 'net much. (Haven't decided)

Sludge:

Err... no.

Argus – Built his own AI and has his own Robotics Company, he doesn’t have the time.

Sir John tried to use a computer once. It didn’t go very well. There was an error with the network demon and Sir John killed the machine before LINIX could escape the box that was holding him.

Avian wouldn’t do it; it’s just too weird.

Captain Death feels “That if he can’t Punch it, Eat it or Kiss it. Then there just isn’t a use for it.â€

Chameleon tried it once but got involved with a crazy lady in Iowa who just wouldn’t leave him alone.

Re: Does your character blog?

Cannis:

Cannis probably does not have any fan webpages yet. But as she and her group get a bit better known, a few are likely to pop up. After all, at least some teens are likely to think attractive villanesses are cool. She hasn’t even thought to look for a fan web page yet, but if she did find some, curiosity would lead to her doing occasionally searches for them and checking them every now and again.

Cannis does not have a personal webpage as either Cannis nor as Lisa. She might be tempted to create a webpage for Cannis. But, since several of the City’s Champions are geniuses, she would be concerned that they could use it to track down her secret id. If she did create one, it would probably have pictures, a few essays, and maybe a video clip of one or two of her training sessions. She wouldn’t be interested in maintaining a blog.

(hmm…now I’m wanting to make a website for Cannis.)

For work, Cannis (as Lisa) visits quite a few scientific websites and forums, especially those that focus on genetics and biology. She also skims through some of the museum website pages to see if anything interesting is going to be appearing.

Cannis doesn’t spend much time on the internet for fun. And would just visit whatever pages had happened to catch her interest at the time.

Sailor Io:

There are probably a small number of conspiracy webpages that mention the Senshi. Neither Io nor any of her friends have ever actually thought to look. If they did discover some, they’d probably read and giggle about the more bazaar theories.

Mina would never create a webpage as Sailor Io since the Senshi are trying to keep their existence a secret. She doesn’t have the time or the inclination to create a page as Mina and even if she did, she most assuredly wouldn’t bother with a blog.

Mina uses the internet for her homework. Additionally, she visits some technology sites, science fiction sites, sites relating to TV shows she likes, etc.

She doesn’t belong to any mailing lists, but occasionally visits forums relating to TV shows or science fiction.

Cassandra (same campaign as Katherine's "Stopwatch") isn't a superhero (or villain) per se, just a teenager with powers. She has no personal webpage, probably doesn't blog either, but surfs the internet.

Hell's Angel (in the GGU Golden Gate Guardians game) is a newby superhero, so--again--no fan webpages, no personal webpage. She does maintain a blog in her secret ID (and is toying with a blog in her hero ID if she can figure out how to do it with no chance of having her ID discovered). She also writes fanfic and corresponds on numerous mailing lists and forums.

Le Fantome (another GGU character) corresponds via email with friends all over the world, but probably doesn't do much netsurfing and definitely no blogging. He's a people person; he'd much rather talk to someone face to face than spend his time in front of a monitor.

Re: Does your character blog?

Ian (Bulletproof) is aware of the internet, but hasn't really "discovered" it yet - he knows it exists, he knows a lot of people are amused by it, but thinks it's some sort of fad without any real usefulness. He's a small-timer so far, made the front pages for a few days once, but for the most part is low-key - about the only internet presence his name probably has is on obscure school reports and possibly superhero RPG boards. *sniggers* He'd be the sort of person to send a friendly, neighborly e-mail to the writer of a report and correct a few misunderstandings, if he knew about it (and knew how).
