Floorplans for a Military base?

Re: Floorplans for a Military base?

Alibear,

Military bases tend to be mission specific, and tailored to the needs of the units which are needed to accomplish said mission. In general, there will be barracks (bay style in older facilities and dormatory style in more modern facilities), motor pools, the PX (Post Exchange - a store), a recreation center, some open lawn space for drill / PT / sports, repair facilities, armories and other various buildings for specific needs.

I hope this gets you started, at least. Check out various forts and airbases with Google Earth for other layout ideas (like Area 51, for example).

try fort bliss tx, biggs army airfield (3 miles east of ) this was a sac base in the 1950's

basicly american base are surrouned by a cyclone fence unless under threat then sand bags and berms surround with wire and mines (trip flares mainly)

euro bases have walls usally brick and are generaly smaller.

try fort knox the building with the gold depository shows a high security area make a good prison/lab/bank. look at gold finger movie for a look at a base in the 1960's

Re: Floorplans for a Military base?

I know that this might be sensitive material but I kinda need to get an idea what a military base looks like. An out of date now defunct base would be perfect.

Does anyone have any ideas where I might look?

Thanks in advance,

Ali

How about:

There is a (free) preview file that details a pretty good chunk of the base.

There is a big difference between army bases, air force bases and naval bases. Then (as was mentioned) it matters what the bas is for, and what the mission of the unit(s) based there are.

Can you be more specific as to what you want? An army base where a major combat unit is based? A base that is mostly an R&D center? etc.

I assume you mean more than just the outside of one because for that you could go on a tour (heck, then you get some of the inside too). Satellite imagery doesn't help you there because the bases often have these anti-surveillance devices called "ceilings" (pesky things, those ;)).

The game Deus Ex had very well-researched locations. You might try playing through that again if you have it.

Re: Floorplans for a Military base?

Basically a base is like a town. It will have pretty much the same things you would see in a small town. Paved Roads, Gas Station, Bank, and Store. Depending on the needs, and how large of a base you are looking for.

The larger bases will have pool and bowling halls along with a Burger King or some fast food shop, not to mention a movie theater. But small bases like Ft Bliss will just have a bar and a PX. But the most common thing they will have are the following: PX (even if it is ran out of a trailer), Medical Facility (minimal care minimum 9-5 hours), Barracks (Hall style or dorm style), Motor Pool (A place to make minor maintenance), Armory (to store some weapons), Mess Hall (to feed the troops - even if it is only handing out MRE's or K-Rats), and a Flag Pole! (you got to fly old glory!)
