Argenta

 

ARGENT don't have may colossal failures but Argenta is there to make sure they do. This woman has it in for the organisation and is using their own technology against them. A major deal that ARGENT was involved in was blown apart by this heroine who had been working undercover to expose them and their allies. Since then they have tried to take her down by blocking the transmissions and using nanotech to disable her armour and weapons. This has not worked and she seems to have developed something to thwart this on the fly.

Rain

 

Juliette d'Aubert was born healthy. When everybody else in the orphanage came down with the flu she was happily out playing in the snow. She never got colds or infections, she pretty much never got injured, despite a few alarming tumbles from climbing trees. Until the day she fell out of a big oak...and flew to the ground.

The rest of her powers appeared in short order - strength to lift a tank, invulnerability to most conventional arms, and invisible microwave beams from her eyes. She first appeared in public stopping a Viper raid on a bank in Quebec City, announcing she was "Here to rain on your parade!" As she hadn't actually thought up a super-hero name as yet, she accepted the press's apellation of "Rain".

Since then she's served the people of Quebec well, working with the RCMP to apprehend criminals, using her speed and keen vision for search and rescue, and protecting her home city and province. Politically, she's made some enemies by being something of a Quebecois Nationalist, and preferring to speak in French though she's perfectly fluent in English and Dutch, but she's worked well in a couple of international crises. She's taken somewhat more flack from the Catholic hierarchy and community, when it became common knowledge she was co-habiting with her girlfriend.

Recently, she was approached by two men who had powers similar to her own. They explained that she was an Empyrean, and invited her to the hidden city to learn more. Juliette isn't certain how to respond just yet.

Cross Adder

 

Andrei Petrov, a salvage operator/treasure hunter in the Balkans, was pressed into service by a group of VIPER agents who believed a tomb of one of Nama's chosen warriors was in the area. He discovered the tomb and managed to flee before VIPER did away with him.

Unfortunately his escape merely led him further into the tomb. As the agents approached Andrei stumbled upon the warrior's resting place and discovered a sword laid across the coffin. He grabbed it and was immediately imbued with power. The sword split into twin blades and as he turned to face his enemies he became a whirling dervish of destruction cutting them down with super speed in seconds. In time he discovered that the sword was known as the Fangs of Nama and he determined to use them for good and fight VIPER who hunt him in an effort to acquire the weapon.

Little Mac Winston came into contact with some Hzeel technology. It augmented his right arm and shoulder. It lost him his career as a boxer. He traded up to being a hero after knocking out a giant robot with one punch.

An ambitious Morbane in DEMON decided that if a nobody like Dr Nymax! could have a servant like Diabolicus then DEMON could have something like that for themselves. They would cast a spell and bind an unfortunate to demon flesh and there you have it. What could possibly go wrong ? Plenty ! Several good aligned magic users found out and worked on a way to disrupt and destroy the ceremony or rescue any unfortunate sacrifice. Diabolicus found out and was not happy and so did his old employer Dr Nymax! who felt that DEMON should be 'rewarded' for their idea.

The Morbanes and DEMON would have gotten a useful ally had the plan worked but they were unprepared for attacks by Diabolicus, various good aligned organisations and The Fae who were helping a certain mad scientist.

When the dust settled a big, horned demonic looking thing asked 'Who am I ?'

Now American Demon fights on the side of good. He is not as big as Diabolicus but he is bulletproof. He does have horns but no wings.

Ground Zero

 

Rosa Torres was one of the soldiers involved in the Project: Sunburst and she ended up in a comatose state and placed in The Crypt. Years later a medical tech named Doug Palmer noticed her readings were changing and that she was coming out of her coma. Fearing that she would be subject to experimentation or worse he managed to smuggle her out of the facility. She regained consciousness and Palmer's examination showed no signs of radiation or other damage. She didn't even require physical rehab. However they were both soon tracked down by a spec ops team. Palmer was killed when they attempted to escape and an enraged Torres suddenly found herself bursting with energy and she exploded killing the entire ops team. Moments later her body reconstructed itself. She stayed on the run only to find herself hunted by both the military and Sunburst who wanted to recruit her for his Project:Sunburst. She was saved from this fate by the other members of the Legion. She has begun to get the handle on her powers and can create smaller explosive effects and attacks and has discovered she is highly resistant to physical damage as well.

Eric Draper came across a sample of Radium X while  working on a weather scanner. He used his new invention to become the hero Weatherman.

When you hear about the Gods gifting people with power you think Athena, Zeus or Poseidon especially if you are a fan of certain teen fiction. You don't think Hades/Pluto but when you have a three headed dog people don't tend to think about getting power more like getting away from you as fast as possible. Hades however has been watching events and decided to gift an individual with power to keep an eye on things as medicine has cured many of the old ills. There are now people alive who should not be and those who should not have died but did. So Hades decided to create a post which basically equates to a monitor of those who died and came back or those who were brought back to life and should not have been. Paul Reynolds, who should have been killed by a gang, was selected and became Mourn. The members of the gang who tried to kill him were killed by Hades. Paul can monitor people's life expectancy and can detect the undead be they Revenants or Vampires. He can bestow Hades judgement upon them as a final act.

Dr. Cavorite is the Legion's heavy lifter with his gravity controlling armor. He keeps the power source a secret since the government would want his harness of kelvarite that allows him to do things under the guise of an armored suit.

Judy Smith was one of those members of the masses who life passes by. She ended up working at an observatory as a janitor and would have probably been fired from this post had it not been for one of those coruscations of power from the planet Ashraal. Judy was bathed in the centre of this power and then began a major adventure as various organisations and people tried to grab her and turn her to their ends. This included government agencies and black ops groups. Judy's suite of powers however gave her flight into space which to her great surprise she survived. She stayed in orbit as she felt safer there and it did cut down on the number of people who could get to her. It was one of the United Nations supers who got to her and managed to talk her down. She was persuaded to talk to other supers and led her to join Mac Winston.

She adventures now as Starshine. She can fly up into space and she has various energy projection powers. She is also very fast and immune to Mind Affecting abilities.

These six heroes have banded together to fight crime. Any resemblance between them and Spiderman's villainous enemies The Sinister Six is completely and utterly deliberate.

Caracara

 

This member of the team has a winged flight suit and performs a lot of aerial reconnaissance and work at high and medium altitude. She uses the secure channel that each of the members has to keep them updated on the current combat situation. She is a former stunt performer and actress who got the suit when a film received a real flight suit and not a prop one life got interesting. Several criminals including the notorious Mr Spider tried to steal it and use it but the woman whose name has been redacted got it and used it to fight crime.

The Water Buffalo

 

Eoin Shaughn was a good man, and a good worker. So, when the notorious Mr Spider tried to steal the strength enhancement formula from the lab across from Eoin's construction yard, he tried to stop the villain.

And got doused with the formula, a massive overdose.

Now he wears a restriction suit to keep himself together, and can carry as much as one of his boss's cranes. But when bad guys come calling, he charges in with both horns!

Oksana Vasilev a former operative for S.K.Y.D.A.S and now a freelance bounty hunter specializing in superhuman threats. While she usually prefers working alone, Mr. Spider is a powerful enough enemy to warrant teaming up with like minded allies.

Dr Edward Eckles is not really stalwart, but his ability to squeeze through small openings, live in water, blend in with his surroundings, natural smoke cloud, leaping and clinging abilities and four stretching arms has earned him the name Squidward.

G Gerald Gecko

 

The Gecko is a strong mouthy individual who runs a blog on crime. He also goes out and fights as he can transform into a human sized gecko. He has incurred the wrath of Mr Spider by ridiculing his antics and crimes. But every time they have clashed in person it has come to a stalemate due to outside interference or other factors. Mr Spider investigated and found something that caused him pause. So he has kept away from G Gerald Gecko as a result. However the blogger has teamed up with other foes of the arachnid criminal to bring him down once and for all.

Maddie Ross is Grit. She is able to turn herself into a moving cloud of particles for infiltration, flight, and attacks. She works as a sand hog when not being a vigilante

A monstrous menace has been unleashed on Japan, and the Zen Team has been defeated. Who will their corporation turn to fight off this monster? Who will be the five new members of the second Zen Team?

Instead of just directing you to an article on anime to pick something, I thought I would just lay out five most common leads to pick for this team.

Oji Yen was recruited for the second Zen Team because of his heroism and his weird ability to ask for help from the dragon lines that course through Japan, and the greater world. Oji's gift allows him to call on monsters to help him accomplish his goals before they return once more to the spirit world. He has earned the name of the Youkai Watcher

Lia Ojen simply turned up on the day before the announcement of the second zen team. When the corporate security tried to make her go away, she made them dance the can-can in the parking lot.

She then walked up to the Boardroom, called the President of the company an unmitigated fool to his face, and announced that she would be taking control of the zen team from here out. Given she's a precog, telepath and mind controller, the company had little choice but to accede.

Lia is an Ainu, one of the native peoples of Japan, and has a tendency to punch people in the face if they have a problem with that. Hard. But she is also dedicated to keeping innocents safe. Her powers aren't all that useful against Kaiju, but as Coordinator she keeps everyone else in communication and on target.

The Stone Samurai

 

One the day after Lia Ojen  became Coordinator, a giant statue turned up in the parking lot. It was of a Samurai in the ornate armour of the shogun period but was made of stone. There are no visible entry/exit ports and it does not radiate magic. It had been reduced to rubble but it has reappeared undamaged. It does not talk but it does respond to the orders of his colleagues, the police and the Japanese Royal family. Rather oddly it has a hatred of Chinese criminals and can sense them even if they are hidden close by. It then will go after them and kill them. No-one has yet worked out why. It can also battle mystical beings and injure them despite not being intrinsically magical

Also I dont think the corporation or its fellow heroes would let it kill anyone. This is a public relations team, not vigilantes in the wild.

Monster protecting humanity. I'll change to attack them

The Golden Lancer mech and it's pilot Momo Iwatani were making the final steps before the first launch and to join the second Zen team when tragedy struck. The mech was sabotaged by members of the monster worshiping Kaiju Cult. The Golden Lancer was destroyed and Momo was severely injured and in a coma. Having no time for alternatives the corporation was forced to recruit Momo's 13 year old daughter Hana. She was a genetic match for the systems of the smaller training mech the Golden Springer and after it was retrofitted with weaponry and Hana had a very short training period she joined the team. Despite her youth she has already displayed bravery and supreme skill as a pilot possibly due to her gaming experience during the teams first battle with the monster. She is also aided by the consciousness of her mother that was connected to the mech to act as Hana's guide and co-pilot.

The alternate dimension in which twin brothers Carlos and Julio Sanchez-Aguayo grew up is generally very much like our own;  there ore of course differences, but the broad strokes are largely the same.  One notable difference relates to their birth land, Mexico.  At the end of WW II, a group of heroes...not individually powerful, but surprisingly numerous and coherent...banded together to systemically root out the corruption and promote the Mexican people.  By the end of the millenium, Mexico was hailed as one of the most progressive, safe, and free countries in the world.

 

Carlos and Julio were geeky science/math college guys, interning at the Institute of Experimental Physics in La Paz, Baja Sur when The Incident happened.  Something went beyond haywire, past FUBAR, and well into the realm of "no one is gonna believe this!!!"  A dimensional rift somehow was formed, sucking in several team members including the lads.  The passage across dimensions twisted everyone and everything caught in the area;  most died, often in extremely grotesque ways.  The boys did not die.

Theme:  elementary forces
Motivation:  get home if possible (best guess...not possible), barring that...help clean up Mexico, root out the drug lords, the police corruption, all that stuff.  God gave their Mexico a gift;  it must he His Will to share it.
PROBLEM:  their powers are a little too.........deadly.  

 

Carlos goes by Flash.  Yes, he's in Mexico, he can tell DC to lump it.  His power is the photonic side of electromagnetism...anything from radio frequencies to gamma radiation.  Invisibility, Images, Darkness, Sight and radio flashes.  And RKAs...x-ray and gamma lasers tend to be messy.  His combat form is not entirely solid.

 

Julio goes by Sizzle.  His power is also electromagnetic, but on the electrical and magnetic side.  His combat form seethes with crackling static (and the associated ozone) that hurts almost anyone else (but not his brother).  He mixes hand to hand with magnetic-pulse ranged attacks.

 

Both can fly;  Carlos can for brief moments convert entirely into light, and then move at lightspeed.  He can extend this power to his brother ONLY.  This makes catching the two...rather difficult.  (Rules-wise, since FTL doesn't work in atmosphere, treat as huge Megascale Teleport, with the extra phase being perhaps a state transition to the full-light form.)

 

Part of the problem is they're just not nearly as well trained as they need to be and *want* to be.  They're pretty good kids;  killing does NOT sit well.  The DEA, and heroes along the Mexican border, are watching...and possibly offering up assistance and training on the QT.  The Mexican government's stance is mixed.
