Re: Whatever Happened To:

"Brick" vanished before the BBB (Champions 4th edition). He is no longer in the game continuan (othoe the charater can easly be recreated for your campain, if you wish).

As fr Icicle, there was a small thing with her being in the first printing BBB while also being in the Heroic Graphics comic books also. So she was withdrawn from the rpg, and replaced with Frostbite (basicly renamed and regendered version of Icicle). There was a version of Icicle for Champions: The New Milimimum (which made her the daughter of Freon instead of the kid sister of Icestar). In 5th edition and 6th edition, she is a girl named Frostbite(?) instead of a girl named Icicle.

Re: Whatever Happened To:

Icicle was published in the 5e genre book. An essentially identical villain called Snowblind appeared in Evil Unleashed, clearly as a replacement.

She's not in the 6e genre book. I don't have the 6e villains books.

Brick seems to have last appeared in 3e, although he was mentioned in the 4e Champions Universe. I always thought he had potential. While at first glance he's just another monster/brick, there is the question of who is he really? He could easily be Lirby Koo (the generic mastermind involved in his origin) himself. And if he were to regain his memories....

Brick's last appearance was in the 4th Ed. VIPER Sourcebook on pages 118-119. He is listed as being one of VIPER's solo operatives and as having regained his memory as a result of experiments performed by VIPER to improve his powers.

Hope that helps.

Re: Whatever Happened To:

Icicle appeared in the 5E Champions genre book, before DOJ was aware that comic publisher Heroic Publishing claimed the rights to the character. When the villains from that book were made part of Evil Unleashed, a compilation of villains from a number of already-published 5E source books, Icicle was replaced with a very similar character, called Snowblind, which the company did own. I'm not sure if Snowblind had appeared anywhere prior to EU; but she is part of the 6E Champions Villains Volume Three: Solo Villains.

Brick was not Lirby Koo (or Kirby Loo, depending on which book you refer to), but was a scientist. His true name was revealed in 4E VIPER when he had regained his memory, although I don't have the book handy to check what his name was.

That would be Dr. Jon Cole. I should have mentioned that in my last post; Thank You for reminding me.

Re: Whatever Happened To:

Greywind makes an excellent point. Many of the characters which appeared in early published Hero Games books and modules belonged to their creators, and were used by HG with their permission, but the creators retained the rights. Heroic Publishing bought or licensed some of those characters subsequently to appear in their comics.

One of the reasons for the composition of the current official Champions Universe is that DOJ wanted a setting and roster of characters that they owned outright, to use as they chose without dispute. Of course they let Cryptic Studios buy the CU, so that kinda went by the wayside. ;)

Re: Whatever Happened To:

Yes I have to admit, I bought the first 10 issues or so of Heroic Publishing's Champions comics back in the day, and was somewhat less than enthused about the more gratuitous aspects, like how they turned Flare into...well you know..and all that. If you have to do that to sell your comics, then maybe you should not do comics...just sayin'

Re: Whatever Happened To:

Which may be why the Champions comic book line folded so quickly. The first mini-series had DEMON as the main villains and ended up with Goliath being killed off. The series was okay for the first ten issues or so with an attack by Mechanon, and Rose proving that she has a higher PD then you'd think. They even had third edition write ups of the characters in the various books. But then it got too weird and kinky.

Re: Whatever Happened To:

There are other examples of this (the kinky stuff, I mean):

Early Wonder Woman was just thinly veiled bondage porn.

In City of Heroes on Pretorian Earth Tyrant is carrying on an affair with his own granddaughter.

As far as stuff dropping out of the official CU, I miss Turtle Armor...

This might be a good thread to talk about elements from the old CU that seem to have transitioned out of the current one.

Here are a couple of names many long-time Champions players may have noticed a recent lack of: remember Neutron and his flunky Arc, two stalwarts of the classic villain team, the Conquerors? Their former teammate Ankylosaur got the 5E/6E treatment, but those two are not listed among the active supervillains. However, they are part of official continuity, in a way. Folks who purchased the 5E Stronghold supplement might have noticed their names among the list of inmates; but may not realize they got full write-ups in that book's PDF-only companion, The Stronghold Files.

By the new continuity, Neutron was one of the greatest master villains of the 1970s and '80s. At his height he rivalled Marvel Comics's Magneto in power, genius, and ambition (although he had no particular pro-mutant agenda). He was captured in 1989, along with Arc (who's still his loyal minion), and the two have spent the intervening years in Stronghold.

There's no mention in 6E books of whether either villain participated in the Stronghold breakout of 2009 (although they do appear in a Stronghold scenario in Champions Online), but for Neutron it may not make much difference. Age, and decades under Stronghold's power dampeners, have sapped his strength to the palest shadow of his former might.

I think that if Arc made it out, he'd make a good recruit for Requiem and Frost's attempt to rebuild their team, Deathstroke. Arc is still a natural follower. I have also considered a scenario in which Neutron encounters the current official time-manipulating villain, Timelapse, who for his own mysterious purposes rejuvenates Neutron to his physical prime and the peak of his power.

Re: Whatever Happened To:

in 1ed & 2ed the proto-hero was called, IIRC, Crusader. When Dark Champions came out he transitioned into Dark Crudader, with an overall power level downgrade and more skills. Don't know if he's in hte Champions universe at all now, as I haven't seen him since 3rd ed.
