  1. Re: [CAMPAIGN]Annals of the Mask Its fun. I play Tony Lee. He's the perfect sidekick! I think I'll rename him Kato
  2. Re: Eberron Hero Pbp/Chat game going very well so far. Combat definitely deadlier in HERO.
  3. Re: Eberron Hero I agree...If you want to start a campaign log, Sav, I dont mind. I have a copy of Races of Eberron coming in the mail, and would like to convert the feats therein to here if I am able. My next purchase will be Dragonmarked. I flipped through it at my FLGS. It looks very good. Nice PrCs. Expandable Aberrant D'marks.... The truth behind the wars...
  4. Re: Race: Warforged Is this how you are modelling the base fortification that all warforged's have or is there another mechanic to combat crits?

  6. Re: Under the Eagle Standard--Roman HERO You are correct. I confused Alans with Avars. I have one of the books with those references. Also thanks for the reminder that heavy calvary and lance charges were not dependent on stirrups.
  7. Re: Under the Eagle Standard--Roman HERO The Alans are according to some sources the descendants of the Samartians or another groups very similar to them. Alans may have invented stirrups also.
  8. Re: Under the Eagle Standard--Roman HERO Cappadocia! We saw this on a episode of Digging for the Truth or something like that on the History Channel... Maybe it was Lost Places. It showed a schematic of the whole underground complex. Neat!
  9. Re: Under the Eagle Standard--Roman HERO The book I quoted above discusses that a little bit. From what I glanced at, the heavy calvary aspect of the Sarmatians (mostly their lance and somewhat their mounted bow use) contributed greatly to the Roman army of the day, especially the contarii. I think that their use of the draco standard helps with that Arthurian conncection. There are at least 2 cohorts supsected to be made of Sarmatians (Iazgyes or Roxolani) around Trajan's reign.
  10. Sarmatians Here's an interesting tidbit... "AD 175 Iazyges make peace with Rome and supply 8,000 warrior hostages, of which 5,500 are sent to Britannia" --The Sarmatians: 600 BC-AD 450, Brzezinski,et al 2002
  11. I have been inspired by something that I read recently and am formulating ideas for a HERO game set late 2nd century AD (c 160) in Roman Britain (Legion IX Hispana out of Eburacum or XX Valeria at Chester...Maybe even II Augusta/Ariudutix even) Characters would be a member of the Legion or support personnel, so not neccessarily heavy infantry. Possible character types/professions/duties are underlined below. Here's the passage. It is paraphrased from Josephus, The Jewish War "The vanguard was formed of light-armed auxiliaries and bowmen. These were to engage and repel skirmishers and to probe likely ambush cover. The head of the column proper was a body of heavily armed Roman troops, both mounted and on foot. Next were surveyors, drawn from the centuries of legions, carrying instruments for marking out a camp. Behind them came the pioneers (antecursores), probabaly carrying dolabrae for tree-felling and other tools....A strong calvary force followed with the commander's baggage and that of his staff, behind with rode the commander himself, surrounded by his finest infantry and cavalry and a body of pikemen (hastati). The came the legionary cavalry...employed as scouts and messengers. These horsemen were followed by the artillery...Behind these came the generals, cohort commanders, and tribunes with their infantry guard marching before the sacred aquila, which was surrounded by other legion standards and followed by the trumpeters with their instruments. The main column of infantry stretched out behind, marching six abreast in close dressing, with centurions watching the discipline of the formation. Next came the baggage-train with the tents and general contruction implements, supervised by the camp 'servants'. The rear of the column comprised of mercenaries, along with a strong rearguard of legionary infantry and cavalry" Granted it is maybe 100 years earlier, and there were advances in the equipment for the armies of Hadrian, Antoninus, and Marcus Aurelius but the composition would still have been similar to Trajan and the Flavians but with even more auxillaries in the cavalry, vanguard and among the mercenaries. It would be great to share some ideas about this type of game. Lorica segmentata? Chain mail instead? Weapons? Origin of auxillaries? Prefabs ideas (i've seen a martial art set describing 'legionary training')? or comments in general.
  12. Re: Online game:Who wants to buckle some swash? so... I wanted to make some adjustments to MvR, however, I wanted to put things in a somewhat historical context. About what year are we? Is Morgan already Lt. Gov at Port Royal? Would taking him as a contact be useful or just flavor? Also, what about the supernatural angle....should I rework a "luck staff" into MvR or keep him as is?
  13. Re: Online game:Who wants to buckle some swash? Just FYI, Savinien is not returning from his Paint Ball Tourney until the 13th. Also, seeing that some of the other PCs have a bit of magic, type stuff, I was thinking of indeed giving Martin a "cat-headed staff" good luck charm, but maybe from a Caribbean/Haitian native, dug up or imported form the ruins of Aztec Tenochtitlan
  14. Re: Online game:Who wants to buckle some swash? I have a brief background on the hdc file, it just didnt' show up here. it also depends on when HX wants to set the timeline.. 1650s...he was a Dutch Mercenary supporting Cromwell during the English Civil War, and then went to the Carribbean, maybe fighting against the Spanish and French there. Maybe he could have been with Morgan in the Panama campaign, leaving with disdain after the debauchery in the wake of the conquest. 1680s..Supported William of Orange for his bid of kingship in the Glorious Revolution, and maybe fought against James II in Scotland and/or Ireland. Then ended up in the Carribbean chasing French privateers. I gave him some emplaced weapon skill (ie cannon) and he has a war veteran background to explain this. I do have to figure out how to explain his blade training..though it could very well be self-taught. I was very temtped to give him that cat-headed luck staff that Soloman Kane has, but decided against it. edit: equipment didnt show up on this brief outline either... btw I have some prefabs of early firearms somewhere.

  16. Re: Online game:Who wants to buckle some swash? Ummm...are you OK?
  17. Re: Online game:Who wants to buckle some swash? I run a few games on HC. I am relatively familiar with all the new-fangled features and have modified some xml code to get non-HERO characters up on the pages (see The Savage Tide). So I can help if you need me to. Just please accept Martin. He'll be very cool and be your best friend even if you're a royalist.
  18. Re: Online game:Who wants to buckle some swash? Hmm...based on your suggestions I applied and am leaning towards a dedicated hunter type. It would work well with Sav's Inquisitor....though they may be of different faiths.
  19. Re: Western Hero; advice please. if you are using combat luck, I would only allow one level. encourage PSLs/CSLs for shot tricks. when it comes to xp, have the players justify their expenditures, esp on stats. (i actually used 8 starting char, but had 150pts PCS. 10start/50/50 amounts to the same thing. Also has 15 point char max on physical stats. Cost doubled after that) You could also do something similar to Valadorian Age. Skill caps at 13-, and PSLs if they want to reduce minuses.
  20. Re: [CAMPAIGN] Blackpowder Hero Mastermind checking in here. Link to game at HC btw.. http://www.herocentral.net/campaignInformation.htm?campaignId=553812
  21. Re: High Plains Hero Thank you all for your feedback. I will be running the Old West Game of which Savinen speaks. Setting: Denver, circa 1868 One of the themes I will be tackling is how the Denverites tackle survival after the Platte River Gold Rush of 1858 starts to peeter out. And of course the snub by Union Pacific to go through Chyenne intstead of Denver. I would like cinematic, but dark as well. Cinematic Grit? I think its possible. Pale Rider comes to mind. REH's Western Tales are also a good model.
  22. Can a weather controller manipulate space weather (solar wind , magnetic storms, etc) or create a hydrosphere in space to have weather to effect? If so, how would that be built?
