  1. Re: Who homages the Watchmen or those the Watchmen homaged? I am almost pathologically enamored with costumed crime-fighters, mystery-men, martial artists, detectives and science heroes who are extensions of the possible for normal humans. I'm inspired partially by the Watchmen, of course, but no moreso than people like Captain America and Batman.
  2. Re: Luck Based Hero. Seconded, Legatus
  3. Re: What's the point? They're gonna escape anyways Tell that to Mermaid Man or Donald Duck and see if he doesn't sock you in the nose!
  4. Re: What's the point? They're gonna escape anyways Oh, so last night, I made my costume up. It's yellow and black stripes and it has nonfunctional wings. So I'm going to call myself Queen Bee Man and knock over liquor stores. Maybe I can inspire some Science Heroes to originate.
  5. Re: What's the point? They're gonna escape anyways I would do it to stay out all night, get my face on a gum card, play with ray guns, amaze pets and strangers, and did I say stay out all night? Besides, if you are a teenager and you're snooping around and you see a superhero changing into his trunks, then you have to be his sidekick. If you didn't just think of what a disappointment it would be to your family.
  6. Re: What's the point? They're gonna escape anyways You know what? I'm going to make an uotlandish costume and become a supervillain. Because, why bother.
  7. Re: What's the point? They're gonna escape anyways Sure. You're right. Why even bother? Let them do what they're gonna do.
  8. Re: The Grey Hood They all look OK to me. Suction-Cup Arrow: (Total: 60 Active Cost, 24 Real Cost) Clinging (normal STR) (10 Active Points); OAF (Typically Requires 2 Hands (Bow & Arrows); -1), Requires Multiple Foci or functions at reduced effectiveness (+1/4), Limited Power: Range Based On Strength (Maximum Range = 150") Power loses about a fourth of its effectiveness (Not Applicable to "Club Weapon: Reinforced Long Bow" and "Suction Arrow" Slots; -1/4) (Real Cost: 5) plusStretching 2", x8 Noncombat, 3 Recoverable Continuing Charges lasting 5 Minutes each (+0), Uncontrolled (+1/2), Reduced Endurance (0 END; +1/2) (40 Active Points); OAF (Typically Requires 2 Hands (Bow & Arrows); -1), Requires Multiple Foci or functions at reduced effectiveness (+1/4), Limited Body Parts (-1/4), Always Direct (-1/4), Range Modifier Applies (-1/4), Limited Power: Range Based On Strength (Maximum Range = 150") Power loses about a fourth of its effectiveness (Not Applicable to "Club Weapon: Reinforced Long Bow" and "Suction Arrow" Slots; -1/4) (Real Cost: 14) plusSwinging 3", Reduced Endurance (0 END; +1/2) (4 Active Points); OAF (Typically Requires 2 Hands (Bow & Arrows); -1), Requires Multiple Foci or functions at reduced effectiveness (+1/4), Limited Power: Range Based On Strength (Maximum Range = 150") Power loses about a fourth of its effectiveness (Not Applicable to "Club Weapon: Reinforced Long Bow" and "Suction Arrow" Slots; -1/4) (Real Cost: 2) plus+2 Skill Levels with Acrobatics, Breakfall, Climbing (6 Active Points); OAF (Typically Requires 2 Hands (Bow & Arrows); -1), Requires Multiple Foci or functions at reduced effectiveness (+1/4), Limited Power: Range Based On Strength (Maximum Range = 150") Power loses about a fourth of its effectiveness (Not Applicable to "Club Weapon: Reinforced Long Bow" and "Suction Arrow" Slots; -1/4) (Real Cost: 3)
  9. Re: Ultimate Suppresser With the Variable Power Pool, you're sacrificing point-efficiency for flexability. For instance: 125 25d6 Suppress Lack Of Weakness. END: 25 Real Cost: 125. Nobody could possibly use Lack of Weakness around you ever. 75 VPP: Suppress Powers Pool. Cosmic (+2), Suppress Only (-1) 50 Point Pool Real Cost: 125. In this construction, you can have any flavor of Suppress, as long as the Active Points didn't exceed 50. You could have a straight Suppress versus anything at 10d6, or an Area of Effect at 5d6, whatever. You're never going to touch the raw power of the first construction versus Lack of Weakness, but you can have some reasonably strong effect against almost anything.
  10. Re: Ultimate Suppresser Another good question! With the VPP, you can change the type of suppress every phase- for instance, you can suppress mutant powers one phase and fire powers the next. Also, you can apply whichever advantages and adders you need to in order to achieve the best bang for the buck. In addition, if you can come up with enough limitations to equal -1, you can have two seperate powers running at once, for the same real point cost of having one.
  11. Re: Evaluation on an ability: Bounce Back No, I don't see a problem with this mechanically or thematically. But it would be annoying.
  12. Re: Ultimate Suppresser Well. I'm not an expert. Not like Karma. But I can mock French typing amateurishly... ..what? Oh! My suggestion is a Cosmic VPP, Suppress Only (-2). So, something like 50 Control plus 100 in the pool. To the eral experts: Can you get away with a -2 for Suppress Only?
  13. Re: Entangle controlled by cybernetics Good idea, Snapt. Log-Man, can Force Wall be used to constrict if I put, say, an RKA or NND Damage Shield on the inside? If so, how would you suggest we build it?
  14. Re: Entangle controlled by cybernetics Good question. They are somewhere between an Automaton and a Power. I initially constructed them as an Automaton, but their use is so limited that it didn't justify the cost. They are semi-sentient and need the character to animate them to hold their targets.
  15. Re: Aura of Solipcism well, that is dreadful! I can't see what's missing. Looks good.
  16. Re: Entangle controlled by cybernetics well, here's the power: A character throws an Entangle which is described as sharp coils of metal which constrict the target. In addition to the Entangle, there is an RKA built into it. The character can have the Entangle constrict, or let go through cybernetic command. But if he is KO'd, the Entangle falls harmlessly to the ground. I have a good idea about what the RKA should look like, but I need to model the ability/limitation that ends the Entangle. And I've also looked at TK. Not sure though, since it's got BODY and DEF, not just squeezing STR.
  17. If an Entangle ends immediately when the character who threw it is knocked out or killed, is there a limitation on that?
  18. Re: A DC Animated-style HeroMachine I need more Rep to Rep people more. Especially you Arc.
  19. Re: Package deals where can I find the Clown Serial Killer deal?
  20. Re: Package deals it's almost as if someone ought to publish The Ultimate Normal. Have you talked to The Patriot about Package Deals? He has a great number of them.
  21. Re: Watchmen: A GM's tale...or why we set campaign limits How would you model "utterly un-botherable"? Something like XDM with everything purchased Transdimensional?
  22. Re: Low End Villain or Henchmen Campaign? This is a kind of campaign that is certainly possible, and it would be fun. Look at Bob Burden's universe for examples of amoral, low-end superpeople running around and having a blast. It's also one wherein you can import the tropes of dungeon-crawling D&D type exploits. If you flip the perception of that sort of campaign, you essentially have a team of bank- and tomb-robbers getting over on the local (monstrous) residents. Also: Look up Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along I kid you not
  23. Re: Redcap Sounds like a perfect opportunity for you, Knuckles, to try your hand at writing a character for review here! Suggestion: If he is meant to be a PC, keep the Damage Reduction at 50 or below. 75 makes for a good master villain or monster but a boring PC.
  24. Re: Watchmen: A GM's tale...or why we set campaign limits Dr. Manhattan isn't a character- he's a plot device. He literally has no motivation as we understand the term. He has no interest in what's going on in the terms we would ascribe to a character- it is implied that his actions are completely predetermined. Furthermore it can be inferred that the only difference between the other heroes and Dr. M is that he knows he's going through the motions. But this super-sentience makes all the difference in the world when it comes to determining whether he's a character (PC, GMPC or NPC) or another kind of object.
