  1. Re: MetaCyber KS should be required reading when doing darn near anything Hero. He's put together some amazing pages with all sorts of resources including settings, packages, systems (magic, combat, etc) and character examples. Mostly in the fantasy genre, but I see he's rapidly building his way into the Dark Champs arena, as well. Good stuff, KS. By all means, keep it up.
  2. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? Some Windham Hill / Pure Moods sounding crap from the administrator one cube over. He's on hold and doesn't want to wear his headset... The plick.
  3. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? Cold - Crossfade
  4. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? Mrs. Potter's Lullaby - Counting Crows
  5. Re: A Thread for Random Musings I know that just about everyone wants to win the lottery, but right now, I really want to win the lottery.
  6. Re: Champions Jargon Heh...I know I can't e the only one to use this... Redshirt - Any disposable good guy NPC, usually an agent or soldier or somesuch, and you just know he ain't comin' back from the mission.
  7. Re: I see dragons!!!! You've decided you want dragons, but you have no idea how or why they're there, no what effect they will have on the world at large? That's...um....bold. Usually I have a reason in place and then figure out what's what afterwards. What do you want the dragons to be? Are the dragons the result of genetic manipulation, either by accident (radiation accident on a mating pair of komodo dragons, for example), or on purpose (Teleios is bored...time to shake things up)? Are they magical in nature? Natural? Aliens? Any ideas at all? Maybe they're from the Turakian Age (or other time/age of your choice). Somewhere, somewhen, there is a great and powerful wizard. He has decided that the dragons of his world need to be exterminated. He believes he's killing them with this age-old (to him) spell that seems to simply disintigrate them. What the spell is doing, however, is sending them to an alternate dimension--ours. Maybe the PCs have to find a way to this magical mystery realm and convince the wizard to do something else with the dragons. Maybe the dragons are intelligent and are fleeing the evil wizard through magical gateways. It's only a matter of time before the wizard figures it out and follows them, though... Effects on society would be dependent on what the dragons do. Are they setting up realms of their own or going into hiding? They might be the event of the week, but as they settle into the habitat people will begin to ignore them. Oh sure, they raid sheep and cattle, but they really don't eat all that much, and they usually stay away from people. Of course, the other predators are in trouble, but I'm sure environmentalists and ecologists can figure something out. Heck, how big are they? Huge? Small? Do they breathe fire and wield magic? Do they speak? Are they even intelligent?

  10. Re: Robotics in the Marvel Universe Ooh...both Jessica Jones (of "Alias" and "Pulse" fame) was a PI (though not a great one), and Jessica Drew (the once and now-again Spiderwoman) is a former detective/PI, and supposedly a pretty good one.
  11. Re: Robotics in the Marvel Universe Hannibal King - a former vampire & vampire hunter, King is an excellent detective with knowledge of, and contacts in, the supernatural/occult underworld (like Blade, Vampire Hunter, for example). EDIT: And forget that crappy showing in Blade III - that wasn't the real Hannibal King. Danny Rand (aka Iron Fist) is theoretically a detective/bodyguard (from the "Heroes For Hire" days), but I've never seen him detect anything that wasn't in front of his face. Also, though not in the Marvel Universe per se, "Powers" is now a Marvel title, and both Walker and Pilgrim are exceptional detectives, Walker more so because he used to be a Power. Dunno if this helps, though.

  13. Re: Sharing the Campaign ideas you can't use... yet You know, that's a pretty cool idea. I mean, there have been lots of cool ideas, but that one just kinda pinged, ya know?
  14. Re: A Thread for Random Musings I really want my own bar. A medium-sized place with two big screens, half-a-dozen TVs and such (for sporting events), a decent stage and small dance floor, maybe a pool table, some dart boards and the like...and a kitchen. Nothing fancy; sandwiches, salads, grill, fryer...the usual things, maybe with a special each night of the week. You should be able to sit 100 people or more, including tables and bar, but total capacity shouldn't be more than 275 or so, maybe less. We'd have bands every weekend (most, anyway), with only a small cover charge ($5) if any at all. Probably do something like karaoke once or twice a week, and maybe an open mike night--just a two-hour window for budding comics and musicians. Leave some nights alone for sports (Mondays during football season, for example, or playoff games and the like), but it shouldn't be a "sports bar". White, with black and blue trim. Real wood stuff, too, but maybe cast iron barstools. The bartenders won't be pretty people--they'll be bartenders, the kind who can set you up with a Scooby Snack or a Duck Fart as easily as they can a Cosmopolitan or a dirty martini, know a score of stupid bar tricks and hundreds of stupid jokes. Decor would be some bar stuff, some sports stuff, and movie posters. Good ones: Casablanca, the original Star Wars, Pulp Fiction, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid...that sort of thing. Maybe some small stills from classic movies (that really good Indiana Jones one, or Aliens). No reason...I just really like movies and it's my bar. I think I'd call it "Dave's", just because I could. I have no business experience at all, but I've worked just about every position in a bar&grill that one can work. I bet I'd rock as a bar owner. Anyway, back to work.... *sigh*
  15. Re: Robotics in the Marvel Universe If by "Batman equivelant" detective you mean a gadgeteering detective sort, I think the closest they came was when Moon Knight joined up (back in 'West Coast Avengers' days, I think). I don't remember Marvel ever promoting a 'super detective', though...in any book. I can't think of a great detective like Batman in the Marvel U. None they've ever been able to adequately promote, that is.

  17. Re: NGD Scenes from a Hat Pfft. Have you met my neighbors? NT: Holiday (any of 'em) traditions that just didn't catch on.
  18. Re: NGD Scenes from a Hat Hot chick at the bar: How long have you been in a band? Me: About three or four seasons. Girlfriend: You can see them next weekend if you want. Hot chick at the bar: I love band guys. I'd love to see you play. Girlfriend: You don't need to see him play. Hot chick at the bar: We don't need to see him play. Girlfriend: This is not the singer your looking for. Hot chick at bar: This is not the singer we're looking for. Girlfriend: He can go about his business. Hot chick at bar: You can go about your business.
  19. Re: MetaCyber Jeezu! Where do you find the time to do all this? Good stuff as usual, m'man. Who does your art?
  20. Re: "Teen Champion" to Regular There's your hook. Between the teens learning a bit about themselves in the future, and the future-selves running those teen bodies through their paces (ick...that sounded kinda dirty. Anyway...), it's a prime reason to give the players a small bump in points/powers. Well, that and puberty. Like most of the others, I'd avoid VPP until graduation at the earliest. Other frameworks, carefully controlled, would probably be okay. In a similar situation (and without knowing all the details of your campaign or characters) I'd consider a 25pt boost to the character sheet for every year of high school they get through, in addition to experience earned. They're progressing rapidly because their bodies are going through changes, growth spurts and the like, plus you have that whole kick-start thing from their future selves workin' for ya. It's a good foundation for a progressive rise in points, methinks. But, you know, your mileage and stuff may vary.
