  1. Re: Marvel Second Stringers. Help me out. Yep. Last seen in the "Madrox" limited series (a 'Marvel Knights' title) late last year/early this year.
  2. Re: How to do this Celtic myth power? I might not be as knowledgeable about my Celtic mythology as some, but I don't know that I've ever heard of a 'good geas' in any of the stories I've read. It sounds more like prophecy, which can always be subverted. For it to be a 'geas' like you've described there would have to be negative consequences for breaking such a geas, and I can't think of a single thing bad about not dying where one sleeps. I'd simply contrive ways to keep the character alive if/when he's ever attacked in his own home (last-minute saves, doctor on hand, etc), but it's not a 'geas' in the traditional sense.
  3. Re: Marvel Second Stringers. Help me out. Most of these have been named, but I’m gonna say ‘em again because I like ‘em: Doc Samson, The Shroud, Stingray, Paladin, Gargoyle, Quasar, Blue Shield, Falcon (is he a second-stringer?), Moon Knight (except he’s such the ‘ultimate’ second-stringer he may be too popular), American Eagle, Photon (Captain Marvel II), Andromeda (of the old “New Defendersâ€), Thunderstrike, Black Knight (Dane Whitman…he still around?), Battlestar, White Tiger (the woman who just discovered her powers in recent Daredevil issues), Cloak & Dagger, El Aguila, Crimson Commando (anyone remember him?), Firebird, Valkyrie… Oh, and Wolverine.
  4. Re: Favorite Superhero Lines Two of my all time favorite quotes aren't necessarily lines. The first is a Marvel Fanfare from way back. It's completely devoid of dialogue and basically showcases a day in the life of The Thing and Human Torch as they mess with each other in the Baxter Building. Thing goes into the bathroom and the sound effect is simply: wurdle wurdle wurdle Don't know why, but that cracked me up. The second quote is from a variety of Justice League issues in the Giffen/DeMatteis days: BWAHAHAHAHAHahahahahah... Always made me smile.
  5. Re: Champions (Super)Hero Resources Here's a great page detailing many Marvel characters, places, things, etc. Including strength comparisons, bios, pics, team affiliations, etc. It's my first stopping point for references to Marvel characters. http://www.marveldirectory.com/xoops/modules/wordbook/
  6. Re: A Thread for Random Musings I saw the headline "'Lemming' to Open Cannes Film Festival" and thought, 'How cool!'. Then I realized they were talking about an actual movie and my interest waned purdy darn quick.
  7. Re: A Thread for Random Musings I have simply got to get off me arse and be more productive...
  8. Re: Musings on Random Musings Oh, much better.
  9. Re: Musings on Random Musings Rent "Pacific Heights" and follow the patterns set therein.
  10. Re: scenarios wanted Um...heroic, superheroic, something else?
  11. Re: Musings on Random Musings Ditto that. Bravo.
  12. Re: Musings on Random Musings You can't hear his thoughts normally? Hmm. Must be a "David" thing...
  13. Re: Musings on Random Musings Yeah, that's kinda what I'm doin'.
  14. Re: Musings on Random Musings It's kinda hard for me to explain, and I might just be imagining things, or maybe projecting, but I'm just seeing an Iron Age mentality (for lack of better terminology) slowly but surely creep into the boards. Some of the threads have been edgy lately. Sex, killing, dark humor...it just seems a bit more--I dunno, "blatant", I guess--than before. Some might say it's healthy dialogue, discussion and debate, but I'm not seein' it like that. It's like there's been a slight attitude shift, like someone dropped a bit more cynicism into the mix. It's not bad right now. It just has the potential to be bad. And by bad I mean disheartening. Or maybe not. One man's opinion and all that.
  15. Re: A Thread for Random Musings I think I'm seeing a new trend in NGD, and even in some of the other forums. I'm not liking it. Nope, not one bit.
  16. Re: The cranky thread I hate my job. I hate that through the choices I've made I'm now temporarily trapped in this job. I hate that, as if somehow knowing that I'm trapped, my job and personal life have taken such a fcuking down turn that I don't know what to do with myself. It's worse now than it's ever been in the entire 6+ years I've been here. I hate that there's too good a chance of finding the bodies to take care of some of the people who are seriously contributing to this current state of crankiness. I hate that I can't punch my boss' nose out the backside of his head. I hate that I'm this pissed this early in the day/week/month/year/life. Even ice cream and Bailey's ain't gonna fix this one any time soon, and I hate that, too.
  17. Re: Some thoughts on River Tam (Firefly) Bear in mind I'll need to watch the DVDs again myself, but IIRC I would think that "Dancing" (both PS and KS) is appropriate. I think she's displayed some decent acrobatics in the past, or at the least gymnastics. Wasn't she a scholar/prodigy? History, literature, art...oh, and medicine. She picked up a bunch from her brother. Gawd, I can't wait for the movie. And you're not helping.

  19. Re: Why Kill At All? You know, on second though nevermind.
  20. Re: Why Kill At All? There's so much avoidance of the actual question and altering of given circumstance in your reply that I don't know where to start a rebuttal, so I'll agree to disagree on the topic of morality. We're just seriously not on the same page.
  21. Re: Why Kill At All? Exactomundo! Repped. Edit: Er, "repped" when I can. Heh.
  22. Re: Why Kill At All? I agree that it shouldn't be the character's ONLY possible answer, but why have a disad if it's not limiting at some point? I believe it's very important for the GM to test the limits of the character's disadvantages in order to justify their existance. If you never put a CvK hero in a position where death might be an option then how is it a disadvantage? Granted, he should not feel forced to kill, but the repurcussions of his actions might not be what he expected. Let's say through the course of combat a character accidentally lets a bad guy get into a potential hostage situation, and that said bad guy is perfectly willing to die a martyr and kill his hostages. Would the CvK hero allow this to happen? Negotiations won't work--the bad guy is a loon and is just waiting for the right time to "die for his cause". The CvK hero is the only one around who could possibly stop him, and there's no way to ensure a non-lethal solution. Does he take the shot? But not every character should have to choose one of those options. Even a brick might accidentally kill someone if he hits him hard enough. Use half-strength and hit him with only 6d6, an average of 6 BODY. Not lethal, right? But what if you get a freak roll of all sixes. A normal person with 2 PD and 10 BODY is dead. It's an option, and it should be played as such with no expectation of GM interference. So how does that CvK brick handle it? That's where real role playing comes in.
  23. Re: Why Kill At All? Many people with similar beliefs often take the stance that even a chance at killing someone is to be avoided. Thus, for someone not familiar with firearms, shooting a gun equates to killing and is to be avoided at all costs. Again, taking a somewhat more extreme point than was made in the actual discussion and using Morningstar as a foil to propose alternate ways of thinking. That, sadly, isn't true. There are plenty of people in differing religions and cultures around the world who simply won't take a life. Period. Self-defense and the aggression of others is immaterial to their cause. Ghandi and his followers are an excellent example: you wouldn't expect him to defend himself or to take a life even for just cause ("just", of course, being subjective based on a variety of factors). There are those who have said on this board that taking a life is never an option. I chose to illustrate in fiction that I believe differently.
