  1. Re: Your favorite PC vs.. Unless he gets lucky, my (currently active) fave PC Morningstar (fairly traditional EBer, if of decent power) would probably get his arse handed to him by Deathstroke, but could likely take Sabertooth (assuming he didn't too close), Green Goblin, or Hobgoblin, and would have a good ol' time rompin' against The Wrecking Crew (I've just always loved those guys--it's like a team full of Bulldozers). Against Darkseid, well...um...nevermind.
  2. Re: Who do you trust? Hero Board savants This is not meant to be disparaging to either Chris Goodwin nor anyone else, but I don't want to put my list here because I don't want to sell anyone short. There are those who seem to have a great deal of knowledge and experience with Hero System, Champions, Fantasy Hero and what-have-you, but their options and/or opinions aren't always my own. I've had questions answered by people I've never seen post before (or since, in some cases) and liked those answers better than those provided by the 'veterans'. Granted, the opinions of many of the folks already mentioned carry a great deal of weight, but I don't want to inhibit anyone else from answering questions or offering advice in the future, either.
  3. Re: Roll up, roll up... Let's see how YOUR Marvel Select will do... Superman - Silver Surfer [not even Supes can take out ol' SS] Batman - Captain America [at best a draw, but my money is on Captain America] Flash - Photon (Capt. Marvel II) [the only Marvel hero who could take him, I think--no one else is fast enough] Martian Manhunter - Well, Vision would be my first choice, but since he's no longer in commission, I'll go with Wonder Man [i'd go with MM on this one] Wonder Woman - Thor [would be close, but I think pride wins out and Thor takes her.] Capt. Marvel - Hulk [CM doesn't have the experience of Supes, and I think Hulk would just wear his arse out] Green Lantern - Jean Grey [You want willpower? Jean Grey's got it in spades...and it's yellow] Aquaman - Iron Man [screw Namor, bring out the big gun] Marvel wins.
  4. Re: Updated YOUR "2005 Pet Projects" List Besides getting my PBEM back up and running, I'd like to do more work on our superhero campaign world Chronicles of Champions, the mutli-genre ElseWorlds page & campaigns, a site dedicated to a fifteen-year-long AD&D campaign I was in, and a home-brewed fantasy world tentatively entitled "World of Kyrindor". The Chronicles stuff I should have done soon, but the rest is kinda up in the air. I've been working on the fantasy world off-and-on for about a year, but none of it is ready for "publication" (on a site). The AD&D campaign I was in, The Annals of Griffon Company, is barely more than an idea at this time. Still, I'd like to have hit all of them before the year is out. I can dream, right?
  5. Re: Villainy Amok He's an old Spidey foe who used to feed off the emotions of others. He got his ears boxed (literally) and his powers turned inward so that he realized he was being pathetic and decided to cease his evil ways (well, that's the short version I remember, anyway). The original Brother Blood was much more insidious. He was a true mastermind, charismatic and quite intelligent (besides being an immortal loon) who fed off the faith of his followers. Hate-Monger I was originally a clone of Hitler with no real superhuman powers, though he could transfer his "essence" just before death. Later, after being resurrected (by the Cosmic Cube, IIRC) he could generate intense hatred in others and then feed off that hate. Mainly a Capt. America foe (of course).
  6. Re: Villainy Amok But...but...but...what about the satisfaction of a job well done?! What about the gratuitous masses of fandom who'll love you for sheer hours after seeing your glorious work?! What about...about...um... ...nevermind. Talked myself out of it. It'd still be cool, though.

  9. Re: If You Draw It...They Will Come Former British bouncer-turned-pro wrestler-turned-bouncer-turned-low-rent-superhero, goes by the name of "Bulldog". Typical wrestling moves, middlin' brick (40-50 STR), belches quite a bit. Oh, and his uniform needs more food stains.
  10. Re: Paper Burns! Perhaps something like this? 48 Force Wall (10 PD/10 ED) (Opaque Sight Group) (60 Active Points); Ablative vs. Fire/laser attacks [Power loses about a fourth of its effectiveness] (-1/4) 6
  11. Steve Long was asking about Tales of the Gold Monkey and linked to the site. From there I took a look at the shows they offered on DVD. Among them was "Legend", starring Richard Dean Anderson and John DeLancie. It looks like they had some good guest stars, as well. Also, "Bring 'Em Back Alive", with Bruce Boxleitner. Here's a brief description: So, has anyone seen these shows? If so, would you recommend them? Any other similarly "forgotten" shows that might be good?

  13. Re: Experts? I think it's a good idea. Scholar allows the character to take several KS skills at a discount. Same with Linguist, Jack of all Trades, and Scientist (with respective skills). But what about the person who is a trained mechanic, for example? Rather than take Scholar to get several decent KSs (which might not fit conceptually), and a couple of PSs (if appropriate), the mechanic could take Expert and have two KS (automobiles, automotive repair), PSs (mechanic, body repair), electronics, mechanics, maybe inventor, lockpicking, security systems, or anything else that specifically relates to his chosen profession. I see it as a good alternative to packages in the right context. Possibly an abuse magnet, but with only cursory oversight it should work fairly well.
  14. Re: Discovery Channel: Alien Planet I'm with Thrak on this. I enjoyed the show immensely. The landscape, the "hard science" behind the ecology, flora and fauna found, and the scientific insights provided by the experts made for a wonderfully stimulating imagination-fueled escape. There was nothing that presented itself as impossible, or even particularly implausible. Even the gyrosprinter is plausible if only because the halteres function as a sort of "balancing sense", and it's not necessary that we fully understand how. That's part of the fun. Yep. Good fun.
  15. Re: VOICE of DOOM I was actually talking about the .hdc file for him, cuz, you know, I'm eager and stuff.
  16. Re: VOICE of DOOM Great work as always, Chad. Any chance of you puttin' up their .hdcs?
  17. Re: Now what do I do? Ooh...what if it's not the PCs that find the VIPER base, but Genocide (or other suitable VIPER foe that is also villainous)? Or The Ultimates! Or...or...or...Telios! Or something. The baddies attack the baddies, and the PCs have to get their friends free in the ensuing chaotic melee. Or better yet, the captured PCs use the opportunity to break out, but find themselves teaming up with VIPER in a battle for their very lives! Wow, I had dramatic orchestral music in my head just then...
  18. Re: Now what do I do? If you're looking for a quick fix, consider introducing a sort of one-off adventure wherein VIPER has some serious bad plans for...um...something bad. For example: VIPER has it's eye on a nuclear missile silo somewhere outside the city proper. In order to get the missile(s) contained therein they must ensure that the heroes are suitably occupied. Thus, they plan to blow up a building/dam/small town somewhere else in order to lure the heroes (and probably some militarly) away from their true target. Unfortunately one of their very own agents has family in the location set for destruction. He only just found out about it. If the heroes promise to save his family first he'll help them escape. Hey, it worked for Miss Tessmacher ("Miss Tess-macher!") in the original "Superman". But Dr. A's idea is a good one, too.
  19. Re: PBEM Submissions: NorCal Heroes! You should consider cross-posting in the "Player Finder" forum, as well.
  20. Re: Feudalism Made Simple Here is a link discussing the history of titles, royalty, peerage, and forms of address (all from a British perspective). It also has some other noteworthy links down at the bottom. I like what's been said so far but thought I'd throw this out there in case it was of any use to anyone.
  21. Re: Spiderman vs... Whose assertion was this, J. Michael's or Spiderman's? I can't see how Spidey could beat the Hulk, but as always, the host comic is gonna have the right-of-way. In other words, it'll go however the writers want it to go.

    Hunted?

Re: Hunted? Great RP possibilities, by the way. If the Viper agent stays true to form he has to figure out a way to get the hunted character (probably without fear of reprisal, though his superiors might ask him to 'take one for the team'). Or worse, VIPER decides to just kill 'em all and not worry about their 'ace in the hole'. So now the agent is as much a target as the hunted character. It's a good chance for the guy to start questioning his parent organization. He could easily turn away given enough cause, and any Viper-related disads (such as "Social Lim: Takes orders") etc, can be turned to "Hunted by Viper" pretty easily. The best example I can think of off the top o' me pointy head is Aeryn Sun on Farscape. Started off a Peacekeeper, kinda got stuck with our heroes.
