  2. Re: Sx help: Name that pistol! I can't help too much with converting the stats you gave to real world guns, however, according to most of the Hero books I own, you are looking at some pretty hefty handguns. Most 'standard' Handgun lists top out at 2d6 or 2d6+1, with most being around 1d6+1. For something around the 2D6 range, you'd be looking at the equivalent of a Desert Eagle (7 shot clips) or Colt Peacemaker (Revolver). Now, if it was 3d6 or so, you might try an .88 Magnum. I hear they shoot through schools.
  3. Re: Help! Phaser Disintegration Redux Just applying common sense to the definition, I would say no. ('All or Nothing' vs 'a Minimum of'). I'm sure others may have differing opinions, and of course, like all things HERO, the GM has final say.
  4. Re: Help! Phaser Disintegration Redux AVAD (ED Resistant Protection defined as a force-field or the like), Penetrating. I'd just drop the 'All or Nothing' from the Champ's Powers write-up and add Penetrating. While that isn't exactly 10%, it represents the simplest Hero construct for allowing Partial Damage to get through. The fact that it isn't NND (All or Nothing) is implied by the leaking anyways.
  5. Re: Anyone running any online games? Also very close. Along with Cinderella and Hawkwind.

  7. Re: Only in Hero ID Actually, if you read farther, it says the alternate forms MAY have different personalities. It also states that in many cases, the personality remains the same across different forms. (6E1, p267).
  8. Re: Required hit loaction There are no specific rules I can recall, but you could extrapolate something based off the rules for sectional defenses/armor coverage. Armor covering 2 locations is a -2 Limitation. I certainly wouldn't go any higher than that, but depending on the game, I could see it being anywhere from -1 1/2 to -2. So, something like: "Attack must be targeted on Locations 17-18 to have any effect (-2)". Just my opinion.
  9. Re: Inflicting Drowning... For 5e, is pretty much going to end up being some form of NND, though typically an NND wouldn't cause END or BODY damage. The sealed Entangle/Barrier is interesting, though in this case the 'suffocation' is a side effect, and it has the added component of 'being' an Entangle/Barrier. My primary reason for responding is that I think the difficulty in modeling this was recognized and addressed in 6e (albeit in the Advanced Players Guide), where there are rules expansions and variants that 'have a Power inflict the Drowning Rules'.
  10. Re: Anyone running any online games? He does occasionally run Maptools offline and forget to start the server. That could be it as well.

  13. Re: Anyone running any online games? I have my own copies of the pdf and hdc files, but I note on yours that while I did indeed buy Deduction as a full skill, the 8- Everyman skill is still listed as well. (In other words, I have the skill twice)
  14. Re: How would YOU apply this attack? Actually, I forgot/ignored the fact he had Two-Weapon Fighting, so he would not suffer the -2 for the second attack. Also, he would only have a -2 to his DCV instead of halving it. The wording of the Sweep rule can be a little confusing, it says you suffer a -2 penalty to OCV FOR each attack after the first, not TO each attack after the first, but Two-Weapon Fighting makes that moot in this case. In 5Er, if both maneuvers have DCV bonuses, only the lowest applies (thus the +1 in this case). Any OCV and DCV penalties are cumulative. I only have Revised, so I don't know the text from just 5E. So, Total DCV = 5 - 2(Sweep w/Two-Weapon Fighting) + 1 (Offensive Strike) = 4 OCV = 7 - 0 (Sweep w/Two-Weapon Fighting & 2 attacks) - 2 (total OCV penalties for Martial Maneuvers) = 5 Makes those 10 pts for Two-Weapon Fighting almost worth it. Sorry for the incorrect info before, but my 5E-fu is rusty, been playing 6E for half a year.
  15. Re: How would YOU apply this attack? Total DCV: 3 (half of [5 +1 for the Offensive Strike]) OCV: 7 - 2 (2 attacks) - 2 (cumulative OCV penalties for the two maneuvers) = 3 OCV with each attack. Once he misses, he misses with any remaining attacks. Sweep Maneuver (5Er, p397) The damage numbers are correct for 5Er.
  16. Re: How would YOU apply this attack? According to the Adding Damage rules (6E2, p99-102) you have: Base Attack: 2d6 HKA, Penetrating (+1/2) +15 STR (+3 DC) Maneuver (+4 DC) So, you have a total of +7DC on an attack with a +1/2 advantage. This adds +1 1/2d6K Penetrating. Thus, an attack with the Falchion does 3 1/2d6K Penetrating. Autofire makes it 3 shots with 1 Falchion. According to the Multiple Attack rules, you cannot use Multiple Attack with a Martial Maneuver, so you are left with 2d6 HKA Pen, +15 STR (+3 DC). The 3 DCs get you +1/2d6K Penetrating, so you can do two attacks at 2 1/2d6K Penetrating, adding the AF3 if you wish, for a maximum possible of 6 hits at 2 1/2d6K Penetrating. Hope he has a lot of END.

  18. Re: Anyone running any online games? This sort of thing is exactly why JD doesn't like guns. STOP SHOOTING ME! Seriously, looks reasonable, though your example would be more realistic if you were shooting the gun-toting homicidal maniacs in the group...

  23. Re: Anyone running any online games? You shouldn't have had to mess with the jar files at all, just download the 2 files he posted, then: Start HD Create New Character --> Custom/Non-Standard Rules (colonialFantasy.hdt) Current Character --> Campaign Rules --> Load Campaign Rules (colonialFantasy.hdr) Build Character My clue that you've done something different is that the Fringe Benefit: Weapon Permit does not exist in the setting/ruleset. Most likely applying the template to the character after purchasing some abilities, which won't remove anything you purchased, even if the template makes it unavailable. Also, it looks like you are using a 5E Text output template, which leaves out some of the newly decoupled characteristics (all the CVs, basically). If you don't have a 6E one, I'll modify and post one here tomorrow (3/1/2010) afternoon. Or you could simply upload and link the .hdc file instead. As far as the Everyman Skills go, they should come out to 0 pts. You probably just missed a checkbox somewhere. (PS and AK: Homeland) Couple other quick things I noticed: +1 DCV level for 2 pts. Even in 5E, this would be 5 pts. Not sure how you got that. In 6E, you would just buy +1 DCV. You have Swordsmanship as a MA, but don't have any Weapon Proficiency with a Sword.
  24. Re: Anyone running any online games? John Doe: John Doe was born an orphan. More accurately, he became an orphan when his mother, a prostitute known only as Bess, died 5 minutes after his birth. Predictably, no father came forward, and so the infant was sent to a orphanage, where, in a fit of cleverness, he was named "John Doe" by the staff. He remained in their care until the age of 8, receiving in that time the entirety of his formal education, best summed by the ability to read and write, and a basic grasp of mathematics. At age 8, he was apprenticed off to a tradesman, purportedly to learn Carpentry, but the tradesman in fact was a con artist, who taught the boy to steal, pick pockets - and locks, and generally remain unnoticed amongst the masses. His master was killed during a con gone wrong, and at the age of 14, 'JD', as he had begun calling himself, was on his own. He used his dead master's resources to create a modest living for himself, and the skills he had learned to continue his life of crime, being careful not to repeat his dead master's mistake of being caught unprepared. John's master had taught him the ways of the knife, and he became proficient with swords as well, though he was unable to secure any formal training. He also learned how to use basic firearms, though he has some dislike for them (the circumstances of his master's death were directly related to a pistol who's existence came as a surprise), but he recognizes their place and utility. John had always had a romantic notion that his father was some faceless nobleman, or wealthy merchant. This notion, coupled with a sense that he had been abandoned by said father, led to resentment of those who used their wealth to isolate themselves from the common people. He resolved that his mission in life should be to act as their conscience, using their wealth and resources to ease the lives of the lower classes. He was very successful in this, due in part to his meticulous planning, coupled with the irony of his name. The authorities tended to confuse reports of "John Doe's" involvement in a scheme with "an unknown individual's", and thus even notable redistributions of wealth went unsolved and unattributed to him. Even so, eventually he felt that things were too dangerous, and he opted to pool his remaining resources (he had kept just enough from his crimes to keep his modest living afloat), and relocate to the New World, there to continue his personal crusade. ----------- Character notes: Notable missing skills - Streetwise - while he should have some ability in this area, essentially, his knowledge is tied to the urban areas of his homeland. He is recently arrived in the New World, and as such, has not had time to figure out how the Underworld operates here. He is more of an out and out 'sneak' than a con artist, having never developed the communication skills necessary for social manipulation. (This is also somewhat reflected in his Disguise skill being lower than most of his 'other' criminal skills, he can walk the walk, but can't quite talk the talk (Acting 8-)). He prefers smaller weapons for their ability to be concealed, often relying on a pair of daggers or shortswords. One thing he has planned from the start: His re-distributions of wealth will likely not be immediate, and will often benefit people in an area (or town) other than the one the wealth came from. He has plans to be here for a while, and doesn't want to wear out his welcome too quickly. ----------- Comments? Suggestions? Problems? Pie? EDIT: For some reason, the boards are adding an extra "." in the middle of the Filename. Dunno why.
