tkdguy reacted to Killer Shrike in But I did not swear!
I'm a former Marine. If I stopped swearing when I spoke I'd be reduced to hand gestures and writing things on a chalk board.

tkdguy reacted to L. Marcus in But I did not swear!
I just noticed I've been hanging around the wrong kind of people. F'rex, a couple of weeks ago at work, I had cause to push the haul arse button. Normally in a situation like that, I'd invoke the vernacular term for excrement, but I found myself using a term best translated into English as "Oh, deary deary me!"

tkdguy reacted to kukuli in Wild Wild West (TV Series)
I am running a steampunk game and made Wild, Wild West required watching for a teenager who wanted to join the group. One with Dr. Loveless required. The show was a great intro to the Steampulp feel of my game.
For those who don't know, Dr. Miguelito Loveless was a mad scientist who believed he was the hereditary king of Mexico and was really ticked off with West and Gordon for continually interfering with his plans of world conquest. He was also a little person. He was played brilliantly by Michael Dunn.

How cool would it be if this had actually been what I read your caption as initially -- a capsule crewed by dragons.

Cat--J.R.R. Tolkien
The fat cat on the mat
may seem to dream
of nice mice that suffice
for him, or cream;
but he free, maybe,
walks in thought
unbowed, proud, where loud
roared and fought
his kin, lean and slim,
or deep in den
in the East feasted on beasts
and tender men.
The giant lion with iron
claw in paw,
and huge ruthless tooth
in gory jaw;
the pard dark-starred,
fleet upon feet,
that oft soft from aloft
leaps upon his meat
where woods loom in gloom —
far now they be,
fierce and free,
and tamed is he;
but fat cat on the mat
kept as a pet
he does not forget.

tkdguy reacted to Pariah in Musings on Random Musings
Categorization error. Should have been listed under 'Corking', not 'Cooking'.

Normalcy is greatly overrated. As are humans.

tkdguy got a reaction from L. Marcus in A Thread for Random Musings
My YouTube recommendations include a video on using cork bark as miniature terrain. Sounds good, but why is it listed under "Cooking"?

tkdguy reacted to archer in Awesome Space battle: The Orville, S2E9
Exactly.
In any kind of realistic space battle, if the viewers could see one ship, they wouldn't be able to see the ship it was fighting with the naked eye. The capital ships would at least be hundreds of miles away from each other and not lit up so that they're easy to see.
-
tkdguy reacted to Scott Ruggels in Awesome Space battle: The Orville, S2E9
Yes. Because you really can't have a realistic space battle that the masses would understand. Even The Expanse while more realistic than The Orville, keeps the ships color coded and labelled, and keeps the engagements to only one or two ships at a time. For entertainment reasons, a space battle has to be at "knife fighting ranges" like a tall ships battle. and have to be flagged. Basically a television or movie space battle, for the most part, is a Zero G NFL game, for the masses to understand it.

tkdguy reacted to Cancer in Quote of the Week From My Life.
Excerpted from a short-in-count, long-in-words email exchange between me and someone else:
Them: Thank you for this reply. How do you write such detailed and articulate emails so quickly?? ....
Me: The "articulate emails" thing is actually a curse. Almost twenty years ago I told a colleague: "Someday someone will send me an email asking if I know how to write a short email, and my reply will be 3000 words long and boil down to 'No'."

tkdguy reacted to Lord Liaden in "Neat" Pictures
When I was a young child, a willow tree in my local park had to be cut down to a stump. But a new tree sprouted from it. As it matured children would climb on it, which resulted in the tree growing increasingly bent over. Ironically, that only made the tree ever more perfect and desirable to climb. The city put steel poles under it to help brace it, but ultimately it couldn't be saved, so they chopped it up completely. But it still lives in the memories of generations, and of course in photos.
