  1. Re: Suggestions needed: Animal super villains I miss the old "Pics that could be Supers" thread. Some great, deeply strange stuff, there.
  2. Re: Suggestions needed: Animal super villains Blasts form the past: Dog, a canine hero! The Master Dog, an arch-villain with thugs to fetch for him and a bone to pick with humanity.
  3. Re: Lets talk about: Martial Arts The Multiple Power Attack rules make Martial Arts built as maneuvers a much better deal than MA built as a multipower. If the MPA rules aren't in place, but the sweep rules are, then maneuvers representing each base plus skill levels can simulate most real world martial arts very well (wild martial arts are tougher). I also dislike modeling something with a power when a skill is already available; it's an aesthetic / conceptual thing rather than a practical choice, but there you go.
  4. Re: [Character] A little Robot Love. Wonder Soyarama Woman-Girl! Looks great, and repped. I'm guessing the "real" Diana will show up at some point as a brainwashed Super villain to guilt Diana-2 and her family over their attempt to replace her?
  5. Re: No robotic love? Genre-wise, outside of the CU, Robots aren't being used out there quite as much as they used to be. Biotech is in the public's imagination right now, and a bio-bot looks cooler when you blow it up / splatter it / or otherwise use it for the same purposes so many robots used to be used (something the Heroes can smash without messy questions about the morality of excessive force). Every other Hero these days seems to have massive regeneration and regrowth as well, so the old robot role of being the guy who gets maimed or eviscerated can now be taken by non-robot "heroes". Within a CU campaign, assuming you don't want to just introduce whatever robots you feel like, the easiest assumption is that the huge numbers of rebellious, free willed robots created from the 40s to the 80s finally convinced inventors that the risks weren't worth the potential profits.
  6. Re: Se7en Write-ups Nice work. You might want to PM Susano; I'm sure he'd be interested in these.
  7. Re: Susano's Guide to Adapting Fictional Characters to HERO I'd suggest re-doing the original posts; easier for first time readers that way. And I stickied the thread.
  8. Re: A Thread for Random Musings One of the hardest rules to remember: You may have been there; that doesn't mean you understood what you saw.
  9. Re: A Thread for Random Videos In a way, aren't we all the Filipino Batman? (repped) (Now I want to track down episodes of Darna)
  10. Re: Character: Quadriplegic Kung Fu Master! In part. Glad people like him. I think he'll show up in my game, probably first as an annoying bit player / comic relief rival and later as an information source for the PCs. 100% success will be achieved if he can talk a PC into pushing his wheelbarrow around for a full adventure in exchange for Kung Fu lessons.
  11. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? Sounds likely. Still didn't win much interest from me; the main problem was probably that I found all of the round one characters, including Butterfly, unlikable. Not even unlikable in the "I want to see them die" way traditional in slasher films; unlikable in more of a "these women are shallow and dull as all hell" way. I say that as a fan of Tarentino's films; I like flawed, complex characters. Those three just bored the hell out of me. For that matter, so did the actresses from part two, other than Zoe Bell and Tracie Thoms. Gorgeous does not equal interesting.
  12. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? Agreed. I'd have cut much (probably most) of the pointless "lets find drugs / a party / guys to buy us X" babble from the actresses, but almost all of Kurt's stuff was worth watching. For that matter, the whole lapdance build up and performance was a waste of film; it didn't invest me more in the characters, it was fettishy without being all that sexy or effectively creepy, it was just wasted minutes.
  13. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? Yup, that was unexpected. I really liked Kurt Russel / Stuntman Mike in the bar, especially the sequence where he's trying to impress the twenty somethings with his tales of actors and films they've never heard of (sad and clear self recognition for me, there). Parts of the introduction of the two stunt women and the two actresses were fairly good as well, especially the set up for the girl's toughness. Still, I'd have cut even from the original; the extended edition was one of the few I've seen that actually made a movie less interesting.
  14. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? Planet Terror was a much, much better movie, especially when comparing the extended cuts of the two films. Death proof had about 40 minutes of good, entertaining film mixed in with a mass of really dull dialog and fetish scenes.
  15. Re: Character: Quadriplegic Kung Fu Master "A true master needs no power wheelchair; only his Fighting Spirit!" - Quadriplegic Kung Fu Master
  16. Theme Song: Quadriplegic Kung Fu Master! Coming to save you-oo! Quadriplegic Kung Fu Master! Master of Kung Fu-oo! Quadriplegic Kung Fu Master! Strength means nothing woo-oo! Quadriplegic Kung Fu Master! Yeah!
  17. Theme Song: Quadriplegic Kung Fu Master! Coming to save you-oo! Quadriplegic Kung Fu Master! Master of Kung Fu-oo! Quadriplegic Kung Fu Master! Strength means nothing woo-oo! Quadriplegic Kung Fu Master! Yeah!
  18. Re: NGD Scenes from a Hat WTF is Batman doing here, and why is he feeding Robin rats?
  19. Re: Wild Card's Hero Just a personal preference: For Fortunato, I'd give him an END reserve, then put the limitations on the END Reserve's Recovery rather than on the reserve itself. The reserve can be freely used when charged; it's the recovery that takes extra effort. You can even visually see when his reserve is full or empty by how much his head is bulging. It's part of the "limited class of powers" limitation on his VPP that powers drawing on personal END and used when the reserve is empty have increased END cost, making him almost helpless when not charged.
  20. Re: Wild Card's Hero Easiest way is to just give him Armor, hardened, possibly with the "visible" limitation. It may have the SFX of "Force Field", but it has none of the mechanical disadvantages of the power "Force Field".
  21. Re: Suggestions need: Animal super villains Arguably the first modern Super Pet pre-dated comics. In Gladiator, the book that inspired a lot of elements in early Superman, Abenego Danner first gave the serum to a pregnant cat, creating a litter of bullet proof, super strong kittens. He poisoned most at birth, allowed one to grow until he was convinced it was uncontrollable (it was destroying the house and killing local livestock), and finally got it with poison in its food. So, what if that very first Super-Kitten had survived? If its powers had progressed to the point that the poison no longer worked? An immortal Super Cat, with all the powers of Earth's first and greatest Super Hero, perhaps having developed a near human intellect over the decades, but with the psychological outlook of a cat? The joy in often deadly "play", the cruelty, the lack of respect for any rules or boundaries, save perhaps for the taking of pleasure in the company of one or two chosen humans. What is Ape to Man? A laughingstock! And what shall man be, to Der Uberkatze!
