  1. Re: Kara Loft: Lost In The Sands Of Egypt I'm more of a 5th Edition man myself, but even I'm impressed. Nice write-up.
  2. Kara Loft, self-styled "Tomb Explorer" (and shameless Lara Croft rip-off), is missing after traveling to Egypt in search of yet another lost tomb. Somehow, your character got roped into going to Egypt to take part in the search for Kara, and while out in the desert came across her Jeep, partially buried by a sand storm. A search of the immediate area uncovers a heavy stone door and beyond it, stairs leading down into a secret underground tomb (very likely the one Ms. Loft was looking for when she went missing). Sure enough, there are footprints going down into tomb which match the type of boots Kara usually wears. The tomb seems to consist of a single chamber with only one sarcophagus in the center of the room. Looking around, your character notices two other things about this chamber: 1) Paintings and hieroglyphs on the walls, which seem to have been recently painted no less, appear to tell the story of Kara Loft's life right up until the moment she came down into this chamber. 2) Kara's boots, gun belt, and clothes are in a pile in a corner of the room. WWYCD?
  3. Re: Destruction of public property, and dealing with the aftermath Another consideration would be whether (legally speaking) the property damage is the fault of the heroes or the bad guy(s) who started the ruckus in the first place. Like if the evil Dr. Destructo-Beams shows up and starts blasting everything in sight, he'll be facing criminal charges for any damage he caused (if and when he gets arrested).
  4. Re: Destruction of public property, and dealing with the aftermath Depending on how common an occurrence highly destructive superbattles are, I'd imagine those that could afford it would start having their homes, stores, office buildings, etc. reinforced to better stand up to those weekly supervillain and monster rampages.
  5. Re: Organization on the Drawing Board: The Law Offices of Vernon, Baker & Mannheim Could put in "Faker" for Baker, but that still requires something that rhymes with Mannheim.
  6. Re: Organization on the Drawing Board: The Law Offices of Vernon, Baker & Mannheim Update: Organization Name: Vernon, Baker & Mannheim Leadership: The senior partners: Jonathan Vernon, Franklin Baker, and Wilhelm Mannheim Type of Organization: Law Firm Location of HQ: Millennium City General Description: Often derisively referred to as "Vermin, Baker & Mannheim", the firm is infamous for having (successfully) defended a long and distinguished list of supervillains and organized crime figures in criminal court. The firm has other divisions for family law, civil law, etc. but the criminal defense division is and always has been their bread and butter.
  7. Re: Organization on the Drawing Board: The Law Offices of Vernon, Baker & Mannheim Actually this time, if there is going to be a supernatural being in the firm, it's going to be someone the players would least suspect. That pretty much means the three senior partners are going to be normals. Damned good lawyers, but still pretty much normals. Vernon, Baker, & Mannheim is going to be a fairly large firm with at least three divisions and lots of junior partners, associates, and other employees; any one of whom might have a secret... Speaking of the senior partners, some first names for these fellows might be a good starting point.
  8. Re: Organization on the Drawing Board: The Law Offices of Vernon, Baker & Mannheim Don't currently have a copy, but it sounds like something worth looking into. Thank you.
  9. Looking to flesh out a law firm I'm creating for my game world. Below are the details I've worked out thus far: Organization Name: Vernon, Baker & Mannheim Type of Organization: Law Firm Location of HQ: Millennium City General Description: Often derisively referred to as "Vermin, Baker & Mannheim", the firm is infamous for having (successfully) defended a long and distinguished list of supervillains and organized crime figures in criminal court. The firm has other divisions for family law, civil law, etc. but the criminal defense division is and always has been their bread and butter.
  10. Re: A REAL reboot of the JL Not bad. I'm something of a traditionalist when it comes to these characters, but I'll admit he has quite a bit of talent.
  11. Re: Answers & Questions Q: Doc, Junior just got in trouble for walking up to and licking Wonder Woman and Black Cannery, what's wrong with him? A: You can keep your lesser evil, I want None Of The Above.
  12. No one knows for sure who or what is doing it, or for that matter why; but over the course of a month in your campaign world, fictional villains from a wide range of media sources are suddenly becoming real and are wrecking all kinds of havoc. Thus far, the follow baddies are confirmed to have been "manifested": Mumm-Ra from The Thundercats Cobra Commander from G.I. Joe Hordak from Masters of the Universe Bowser Koopa from the Super Mario Brothers games Megatron from The Transformers Prince Lotor from Voltron Khan from Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan K.A.R.R. from Knight Rider Lord Humongus from Mad Max II: The Road Warrior Nuraku from Inuyasha Darth Vadar from Star Wars WWYCD?
  13. Re: GM Help: That Player I Want to Strangle Sometimes you just have to sit this kind of player down and tell them straight out, "Look, if you want to do those sort of things, create your own campaign world and GM it. In the meantime, it would be best that you either abide by the ground rules we all agreed to at the beginning of all this or find something else to do with your Saturday nights."
  14. Re: Sun missing As McCoy pointed out, light and heat are only part of the sun's function in our system. If it were suddenly gone, Earth (and pretty much all the other planets) would careen off into space like an LA police car into a fruit stand. Most of my characters would assume someone is pulling a Mr. Burns by blocking the sun's rays somehow. What to do about it depends of what sort of apparatus, spell, whatever they are using.
  15. Your character is ready his/her favorite newspaper or news website when he/she comes across the following: Bank Robber Suffers A Net Loss: A bank robber fleeing from police after robbing Campaign City Bank abandoned his vehicle after a high speed chase and attempted to elude the officers on foot through a suburban neighborhood. The suspect climbed a wooden privacy fence and ran through the backyard of one of the homes in said neighborhood, only to be suddenly entangled in a net and fell to the ground. It turns out the 15-year-old son of the homeowner and his friends had constructed a homemade net launcher from plans they downloaded off the internet and were testing it out that afternoon. The robber made the mistake of running between the launcher and its intended test target, an old department store mannequin, just as one of the teens squeezed the trigger. The pursuing officers quickly caught up to the tangled criminal shortly thereafter and took him into custody. What is your character's reaction to the story? WWYCD?

  17. Re: 6e binding issue Two words: Gorilla Glue
  18. This scenario assumes that your character would be eligible to serve on jury (possibly in Secret ID if applicable). The case is as follows: A man, who has already admitted he intended to burglarize the home of a wealthy citizen of Campaign City, is confronted by one of the property owner's security robots. The robot issues the standard "You are trespassing on private property, leave the premises immediately" warning. The suspect then charged at the robot brandishing a crowbar, clearly intending to inflict damage upon the robot guard. The robot, however, proves to be quicker than the intruder and discharges its stunner, incapacitating the perp until the police arrive on scene to take him into custody. After the incident, the burglar files a lawsuit against the property owner, claiming he suffered permanent nerve damage as a result of being zapped. Surveillance video from that night shows not only the confrontation described above, but also shows that the burglar ignored several clearly posted signs warning about the security robots that protect the property. The case somehow went to a jury trial, and your character is on the jury. WWYCD?
  19. Re: Answers & Questions Q: Did Batman just attack you while you were out shopping? A: Tae Kwon Do'h!
  20. Re: Answers & Questions Q: Dude, why are you trying to chip away at the wall with that spork? A: She's lovin' by proxy, no give and no take.
  21. Re: Artifact: The Coin Of Shifting Fortunes (5th Ed) To clearify some details, the Requires A Coin Toss based off a 11- Activation since it gives you roughly a 50/50 chance. The player tosses a regular coin in RL while the character tosses the silverpiece in-game. If the player calls the RL coin toss correctly, the silverpiece lands with the angel facing up and the Luck is activated. If the player calls the toss incorrectly, it lands with the demon facing up and the Unluck activates from the Side Effects. The point of the limitations is that using the artifact entails some risk which the player who has the coins has to carefully take into consideration each time.
  22. Re: Artifact: The Coin Of Shifting Fortunes (5th Ed) If you as GM in your games feel the "Controlled" advantage is mission critical, by all means.
  23. The Coin Of Shifting Fortunes (a.k.a., The Gambler's Silverpiece): Luck 3d6 (15 Active Points); OAF (-1), Requires A Coin Toss (-1), Side Effect (Unluck 3d6 instead if you call the toss incorrectly; -¼). Real Cost: 5pts. Description: A silver coin roughly the size of a U.S. silver dollar with the image of an angel on one side and a demon on the other. When a coin toss is done with it, if the side with angel faces up (i.e., the player of the character using the coin calls the real world coin toss correctly) the coin grants an immediate stroke of good fortune. On the other hand, if the side with demon lands facing up (called the toss incorrectly), the character will suffer some immediate misfortune. This coin was at one time the good luck piece of an infamous riverboat gambler, until the night he was shot to death at the poker table after one of the other players caught him hiding cards up his sleeves.
