  1. Well, they took out three hundred guys, allowing the rebels to take out the shield generator that protected the incomplete but armed second Death Star, which rebel ships then destroyed with the Emperor and his right-hand man on board. It's a domino thing. The aforementioned The Mandalorian series is set shortly after that battle, in which we see that the Empire, although thrown into chaos by those events, is far from defeated. But I'm with you that Ewoks were a silly move. I remember an interview with George Lucas in which he claimed the original plan was for the battle to take place on the home world of the Wookies, but he claimed Chewbacca had made them appear "too sophisticated" to be used like feral guerillas. But I concur with the assessment that the real reason was to sell cute cuddly toys to kids.
  2. This is a very clear and informative breakdown of procedure by which the Democrats can get their stimulus package through.
  3. Here's a collection of scenes displaying the awesomeness of Grand Admiral Thrawn.
  4. In the interest of fairness, I'll just mention that scientists predicted coronavirus precautions would also diminish the spread of influenza, hence why the rate is so low. I suspect it's even lower in countries where precautions were more efficiently and rigorously applied. Speaking personally, I haven't had as much as a cold in a whole year. I can't remember the last time that happened, if ever.
  5. Members have been quitting Mar-A-Lago in droves since Trump moved back there, and his neighbors have petitioned the local government to evict him. Mar-A-Lago has been called "sad" since his return. Trump's investors and business partners are shunning him, and his properties are hemorrhaging money at an accelerating rate. And of course, prosecutors are circling him. Couldn't happen to a more deserving guy.
  6. The guy in the picture is Tommy Wiseau, the writer, producer, and star of the 2003 independent film The Room, widely considered the worst movie ever made (and having thereby gained cult comedy classic status). The tweeter, Jon Favreau, is an actor/director/producer known for, among other things, directing the movie Iron Man and its sequel, as well as playing Tony Stark's security chief, "Happy" Hogan, in several Marvel movies. "Thrawn" is Grand Admiral Thrawn, a master tactician and major villain in the Star Wars universe, first in licensed novels, more recently in the animated Star Wars Rebels TV series. I've heard that Thrawn will be a recurring antagonist in the upcoming Netflix live-action series focused on one of the animated series' protagonists, Ahsoka Tano (former apprentice to Anakin Skywalker pre-Darth Vader), who's already appeared in the hit SW-continuity Netflix series, The Mandalorian (source of all those "Baby Yoda" memes).
  7. I really like Transfer. I kept it for my 5E Hero games, along with other rules that had officially been dropped. The beauty of the high cross-compatibility between different editions of Hero System is that it's usually easy to insert elements from one into another.
  8. I watched an interview with Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany in which she mentioned that when Kevin Feige was working to convince her to take the role of Scarlet Witch, he gave her comics to read featuring classic Wanda-centric story lines like those mentioned above, which won her over. Now, she says, she's finally going into that territory with this television series.
  9. The thing is, at the inauguration there are all these powerful and influential people in fancy expensive coats, with their families, friends, assistants. And here's this guy who rightfully belongs among them, but shows up alone in drab common garb. In comparison he looks utterly mundane and unpretentious, which is utterly Bernie.
  10. She doesn't understand how things work in the Washington legislature. She obviously thinks she can pull stunts like Trump did to get attention, and will get away with it because the President did. Another legacy of Trump, inspiring legislative idiocy. McConnell is running the GOP now, and he won't put up with grandstanding without his approval.
  11. This man is a major figure in American politics, and was a serious contender for Democratic presidential candidate. Twice. And here he is in the midst of all this pomp and pageantry, an old man in a simple parka and mittens, sitting by himself in a folding chair, huddled up trying to stay warm.
  12. IIRC he had Cap with his raised shield in front of him, and Invisible Woman made Cap invisible so Gladiator couldn't see what he was hitting. It looked like Reed was just standing there shrugging off Gladiator's blows. Since much of Gladiator's power was "psionic," driven by his will, shaking his confidence like that made him vulnerable. Of course that means Cap's shield was completely absorbing multiple blows from one of the strongest beings in the Marvelverse. At the time that stretched my suspension of disbelief a lot. I've also seen Cap get punched on the shield by the Hulk and sent flying. Although the comic didn't mention it, I always told myself that Sue must have been backing the shield up with her force field. I could see that combination being so tough.
  13. I'm sorry, I couldn't let this go by.
  14. Yet the comics have done the same thing with Captain America's shield, and the abilities of every other superhero and villain. Their power and skill has always fluctuated with the needs of the plot, and that's been true for even the most notable names among comic-book scribes.
  15. And I can hear the chorus of "fake news" building...
  16. Keep in mind what else is commonly called, "hash." Come to think of it, that would probably be marketable in parts of America today.
  17. Oil is a very sensitive issue in Alberta. It's still the engine driving the province's economy, although Alberta had years when oil prices were high and very profitable to invest in diversification. The province's government in those days chose to pay down deficits and debts, cut taxes, and the like, which is economically and politically understandable, but left Alberta vulnerable to the global drop in the price of oil. Much of Alberta's oil is in tar sands, which is both costly to extract and high in emissions production, and the province has been on the receiving end of much domestic and international criticism for the practice. Alberta's premier, Jason Kenney, has chosen to exploit the political issues around oil, casting himself as a defender of jobs for Albertans, and exacerbating old resentments and "nationalist" sentiments in the West toward the federal government. He's something of a populist, and his provincial Conservative Party is toward the edge of the "right" in mainstream Canadian politics (which would probably make him left of center in contemporary America).
  18. It often isn't, although it certainly can be. In the movies as in the comics, Cap has the skill to make the shield hit like a bludgeon when he wants it to, and like a blade when he wants it to. He literally disarmed a Chitauri with it, and when he really wound up he could shred steel robots. But in that "kill count" video Pattern Ghost linked to, there were clearly hits which weren't lethal, although concussions or worse could be expected for their targets. In interviews I've read and seen around Captain America: The Winter Soldier, the Russo Brothers talked about having Cap do a lot of what they called "mack shots," apparently a film term for a blow which obviously isn't lethal, but knocks opponents out and takes them out of the fight.
