  1. Re: Immune to Stun Only I agree with those who say that the SFX of this ability is questionable. However, if you're going to go ahead with this anyway , I would say that Limited Desolidification is the simplest and most efficient build. Note that according to the rulebook description of Desolidification, it's well within the GM's purview to waive the requirement for "Affects Solid World" on STR and Powers if the Desolid is sufficiently Limited.
  2. Re: Runequest Races The thread with all those fine writeups is here: http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33560 . Note also the links embedded in the first post on the thread, which will take you to sources for lots of other great Runequest/Glorantha stuff.
  3. Re: CHAMPIONS OF THE NORTH -- What Would You Like To See? That was an element of the previous incarnation of the Canadian arch-supervillain Borealis, who is part of the 5E CU. He was a rival/foe of Invictus, who is also in the CU and written up in Villainy Amok and Evil Unleashed. Since the guy who created both characters is writing CotN, I'll be surprised if that rivalry doesn't carry over.
  4. Re: Conversions...City of heroes? There's been a very small amount of converted material and conversion guidelines posted to the forums: http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32537 http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16952 On several occasions people have posted requests like this, and discussed whether and how it would be doable, but not much concrete has materialized yet.
  5. Re: Rulebook reference help please Hugh, my thanks and Rep to you. I think I'll hold off presenting my own opinion/analysis of the matter, until I see if anyone else wants to start a discussion over it.
  6. Hey, gang, as someone who is still using FREd, I'd appreciate a bit of help looking up an official ruling from 5ER. According to a discussion I read on these boards a while back, 5ER rules it illegal to use more than one slot in the same Multipower as part of a Multiple-Power Attack. Could someone please check the book to confirm this, and if it's true provide the page number on which that ruling appears? This is for an article I'm writing to submit to Digital Hero, so I want to make sure of the reference. I would be grateful.
  7. Re: CHAMPIONS OF THE NORTH -- What Would You Like To See? Oooh... perhaps a secret prototype fighter-bomber which was retained by the Canadian government, converted to carry multiple passengers, and which has continued to be upgraded over the years as a government superteam vehicle. That would be all kinds of Canadian cool.
  8. Re: Why should I buy Champions? Congratulations! Yes, OCV and DCV are acronyms for "Offensive Combat Value" and "Defensive Combat Value." At their basic level both types of CV start out the same, as they are calculated from the Dexterity Characteristic. However, there are many ways in HERO to vary OCV and DCV separately from each other, depending on your character concept and your strategic choice at the time: numerous Combat Maneuvers, Combat Skill Levels, Martial Arts, bonuses or penalties from Powers like Growth, Shrinking and Invisibility, bonuses and penalties due to Movement, Physical Limitations... the options are pretty wide.
  9. Re: Damage Absorbtion: Help our game Before I address your specific problem, I'll just mention a couple of things that I'm sure someone will bring up here sooner or later. First off, in a lot of combats between armored foes, fights were in fact ended by opponents falling unconscious due to pain or exhaustion, rather than being killed. Also, if you adjust the rules to make it more likely that the PCs' opponents will die, that also makes it more likely that PCs themselves will die. Mind you, if you intend to carry over a lot of D&D's healing/resurrection magic, that may not be a major concern to you. Now that that's out of the way : the optional Bleeding rules will definitely boost the body count, although death will come gradually rather than suddenly. You can also deliver a coup de grace to a fallen and defenseless foe - the rules say that in such circumstances, when an attack should logically kill an opponent instantly, you can rule that it simply does so without rolling for damage. Look up "Sectional Defenses" and "Armor Coverage Table" in the rulebook Index. Most types of armor don't cover every portion of the body (i.e. every Hit Location), so if a weapon strikes an unarmored area the full BODY damage gets through. You could eliminate the Stun Multiplier for Hit Locations altogether, in favor of a set value for Stun from all attacks, e.g. x2 or x3. The lower the multiplier, the less likely a target is to be Stunned or Knocked Out before succumbing to BODY damage.
  10. Re: A Renaissance Man For a supers game? Essentially, Doctor Destroyer without the armor.

  12. Re: Killer Damage and Stun Damage I assume we're talking about the Hit Location table on 5E p. 276/5ER p. 414. I reread those rules to confirm what I remembered. For Killing Attacks: Roll to hit Roll for Hit Location Roll BODY damage Multiply by the STUNx of the location to get STUN done by the attack Subtract Defenses to get STUN damage taken by the target Subtract Defenses from the BODY damage done Multiply by the BODYx of the location to get the BODY damage taken by the target For Normal Damage attacks: Roll to hit Roll for Hit Location Roll for STUN damage Subtract Defenses from the STUN damage done Multiply by the N STUN of the location to get STUN damage taken by the target Count the BODY damage rolled Subtract Defenses from the BODY damage done Multiply by the BODYx of the location to get the BODY damage taken by the target So, in each case you use the Multiplier from the Hit Location table after you subtract the target's applicable Defenses, except for the STUN damage from Killing Attacks, where you multiply before subtracting Defenses. This is because the Hit Location Multiplier is substituting for the STUN Multiplier die (1d6-1) which you use to roll for Killing STUN damage when not using the table. I hope that was clear.
  13. Re: Need an organization name Um, were you aware that DC Comics already has S.T.A.R. Labs? I assumed that's what Darren was referring to.
  14. Re: Which characters would you enjoy playing? As I've said before, the Millennium City Eight are among the most original, well rounded hero concepts I've ever seen, and all the abovementioned geniuses have a right to be proud of them. I would probably choose Raaktor to play myself. A Neolithic era Neanderthal warrior-shaman as a modern superhero is the first truly unique concept I've seen for the genre in a long time. I love the contrast between his fearsome appearance and ferocious fighting style, and his contemplative, empathetic nature and spiritual wisdom.

  17. Re: Picking up and using weapons Precedent is my main concern as well. While I can't speak to Macamboy's game group, there's never a shortage of "give an inch, take a yard" players. In that case it's often less contentious to be more cautious but more consistent.
  18. Re: Picking up and using weapons I'm with the general concensus. If it's for a heroic-level game, in which you don't usually pay Character Points for your equipment, and the gun in question isn't much superior to what's available to any character, then there's no reason the PC can't keep it unless there's some campaign-background reason why he shouldn't have one. If it's for a superheroic game, in which equipment is usually paid for with CP, the PC can certainly pick up and use the gun during a scenario without paying points (there's no magic preventing him from doing so), but if he wants to keep it as part of his regular equipment that he takes with him on adventures he should pay CP for it.
  19. Re: Eurostar's current line up My last use of Eurostar under 4E was with the Classic Enemies lineup, but with the more intelligent Pantera from Champions: New Millennium, so she fit in better. I also used the alternate version of the Whip from CNM, who had the much classier name of Scourge. The Whip/Scourge should not be underestimated IMHO; his abilities make him a good support member for a team.
  20. Re: CHAMPIONS OF THE NORTH -- What Would You Like To See? Or perhaps as per Rod Currie's suggestion, the Canadian Super Soldier project was cancelled precisely because Teleios's involvement was discovered - but one or more survivors of the project are still around. If writeups of the characters would be too much detail to add to the book, I think this concept warrants inclusion as a Teleios plot seed at the very least.
  21. Re: 25th Anniversary Winding Down Hey, I never heard that this sale was an anniversary commemoration thing! Now the agony of my poverty is compounded by my company loyalty. Seriously, I'll try to scrounge up some swag before deadline.

  23. Re: Need an organization name Hey, Darren, if it wouldn't violate prepub secrecy, could you let us know when you find a name that floats your boat? Just so we know when to stop - it's not like our egos need stroking or anything.
  24. Re: A new Player here Welcome, Luca! It's always nice to have new folks stop by to liven up the place. Feel free to ask any questions; we're a pretty friendly and helpful bunch to newcomers. What sort of resources are you interested in? For starters, I would recommend the links in the blue banner at the top of this page, specifically the ones named "Free Stuff" and "Hero Links." There is a great deal of fine material of all kinds to be found there. You could also try following the link in my signature, below. Anything specific you may need, just ask and we'll see if we can fix you up. Regarding your specific question, Change Environment is a perfectly valid way to get what you want. Since CE is a Constant Power you can certainly keep it running all the time you're conscious if you want, without having to buy it Persistant. If you buy an Advantagea for it, "Usable On Others - Usable As An Attack" (description of UOO in the Advantages section of the book), you can target CE on yourself and it will move with you as you move, without having to make a new Targeting Roll each Phase, and affecting anyone who steps into its area of effect. In that case you could take the Limitation, "No Range," so that it's always centered on yourself whenever you use it. (Just make sure to also buy the Personal Immunity Advantage so that it doesn't affect you adversely too.) However, another method to build this that I would suggest is additional Presence with the Limitation, "Fear-Based Presence Attacks Only" (usually presented as -1 in published books). That's much cheaper, will give you a similar effect on anyone you make a Presence Attack on (which takes no time out of your Action Phase), is resisted by the target's Ego or Presence, and is always "running." Or, you could use Mind Control with Telepathic Command, same Modifiers as for Change Environment above, and the Limitation "One Command - Fear Me!," defining the effect of Fear however you want. As usual, there are several ways to build a given effect in HERO, so you can choose whichever one works best for you.
