  2. Re: How Many U S Heros ? Well, some kind soul collected the references to CU heroes in various published Champions books (up to about 2003 IIRC) along with their locations and team affiliations, and put them as a PDF on the "Free Stuff" part of the website. That would be a good place to start: http://www.herogames.com/FreeStuff/freedocs/CU%20Supers-Full.pdf There's another free PDF for the supervillains, in the same style and the same vintage: http://www.herogames.com/FreeStuff/freedocs/CU%20Villains-Full.pdf

  4. Re: Today's Bad Idea Ah, a postmodern villain.
  5. Re: Today's Bad Idea I've seen her costume - it doesn't seem like that big a leap. Don't overlook the mistress of road surfaces, Gravel-Tar!
  6. Re: Obakemono - A Gaijins Guide To The Fantastic Folk Monsters Of Japan Yes, it's been brought up here a couple of times. Some of these creatures don't appear in most of the prepackaged compilations that one might have access to, although the site cites the sources it draws all of them from. The illustrations are the real fun IMHO. Click on "Random" in the pagetop toolbar to bring up all manner of bizarre surprises.
  7. Re: CHAMPIONS OF THE NORTH -- What Would You Like To See? I found many of the old Champions of the North characters to be interesting concepts and well-rounded personalities. Most people's complaints seem to have been over their low point totals/power levels, but that's an easy thing for individual GMs to upgrade for their campaigns, IME easier than cutting down characters who are too high powered. Nonetheless I have no doubt that the Gestalted One will turn out a roster that his fellow Canuckian HEROphiles will be just as proud of.
  8. Re: Help With An Acrobatic Style Of MA From the free samples from Digital Hero #2, I offer Gymnastics as a Martial Arts Style.
  9. Re: Multipower of naked modifiers... please help Well, I'm still going by FREd since I don't have 5ER, so I can't say if it's been changed; but in the description of Naked Power Advantages on FREd p. 157, it says, "Naked Power Advantages are considered Special Powers." Also, on Conquerors, Killers And Crooks p. 64, the description of Temblor says that "Temblor's Spikey Stone Fist power requires the GM's permission, since it involves placing a naked Power Advantage in a Power Framework." The fact that the writeup has implicitly received "GM's permission" doesn't in itself negate the default rule. If the official ruling has changed under 5ER, I apologize to Lord_Winter for misleading him.
  10. Re: Multipower of naked modifiers... please help Yes, Hyper-Man's Multipower option is perfectly legal, because the Advantages are being applied to Hand-To-Hand Attack in each slot rather than as Naked Advantages. You also calculated the cost of Variable Advantages directly on your character's Strength correctly, assuming a maximum Advantage of +1 and only the three Advantages you mentioned. If someone used Aid to increase your Strength: if the Advantages were applied directly to your Strength, then the Aid would affect the total Active Points in Strength plus Advantages, i.e. the points gained would be divided between the base Strength and its Advantages. In the case of Hyper-Man's Multipower, all the points gained from Aid would go to Strength; however, this would not increase the damage done by any HA in the Multipower, which in this case can only be increased to double the base Damage regardless of how much more Strength is used - i.e. it can never do more than 4d6.
  11. Re: Eurostar's current line up A few factors made 4E Eurostar so deadly. Numbers and Damage Class have already been mentioned (note that Mentalla's mental attacks were DC 16, in addition to her Drain EGO Power). In particular, Pantera's HKA combined with Find Weakness was extremely nasty. And don't underestimate the usefulness of Desolid, even if you don't have Affects Solid World, in letting you avoid major attacks, and circumvent obstacles to getting in position for a surprise attack. Eurostar were also described as using excellent team tactics, even Pantera unless and until she went Berserk. With Bora's Double Knockback EB to hurl opponents away from her allies or toward where they could be easily attacked; White Flame and Le Sone's nasty Flash attacks; Fiacho's concealing smoke projector; Mentalla's major Mind Control and Mental Illusions; and the Whip's Trip and Disarm Martial Maneuvers whith his weapon, the group had many tactical options when working together. Finally, Eurostar were all ruthless killers, with no hesitation to use lethal force, kill innocent bystanders, or cause large-scale devastation. Attitude was as big a factor as power in what made Eurostar so dangerous and so feared.
  12. Re: Multipower of naked modifiers... please help Any Advantage on Strength is calculated on the total Strength that it applies to, not just the amount that you pay to increase it above its free base amount. For example, STR 20 would count as 20 Active Points, so a +1/2 Advantage like Armor Piercing would cost 10 points. However, I have to point out that using a Naked Advantage as a slot in a Multipower is against the default rules. If you are the Game Master for your game you can certainly rule that this is allowable (I know of one published character written by Steve Long in which he does exactly that, although he notes that he's bending the rules), but IMO a whole Multipower full of Naked Advantages is a little unbalanced. However, you can get the same effect legally by buying another Advantage, "Variable Advantages," for your character's STR. This allows you to switch between several Advantages of a given amount at will.

  14. Re: Whould you buy...CHAMPIONS SOUTH OF THE BORDER and CHAMPIONS OF THE RISING SUN. Oooh... Turakian ruins! Lightning Man from Champions Worldwide found Turakian Age artifacts on New Guinea, so it's certainly possible. That opens up a realm of potential for plots and character origins. Including a certain Archlich starting to notice your part of the world.
  15. Re: Whould you buy...CHAMPIONS SOUTH OF THE BORDER and CHAMPIONS OF THE RISING SUN. The thing about CWW is that it dropped a ton of names for characters which were never statted up in the book, for almost every region. In most cases those alone would make an excellent start for sourcebooks. Sadly though, not for Australia. Steve Long and DoJ have decided that Oz in the CU is pretty quiet as far as supers activity goes. 4E Down Under sounded like a much livelier place: the mighty Captain Australia, the Phase II super-agency, the Outriders hero team, the villainous Dark Brotherhood, and the monstrous Entropi. I figure that Australia and New Zealand in 2007 could use (A) a wave of reality-warping magic erupting from the Well of Worlds, ( a continent-wide shower of Kelvarite meteors, © both of the above.

  17. Re: Whould you buy...CHAMPIONS SOUTH OF THE BORDER and CHAMPIONS OF THE RISING SUN. Personally I would prefer a Japan or Asia sourcebook to one for Mexico or South America, although if the latter is comprehensive enough I would probably pick it up. BTW steriaca, Kingdom Of Champions being in editing is news to me. Last I heard it wasn't even on the publishing schedule, or had a writer assigned to it.
  18. Re: Time travel Dr. Who style - Hero Universe Not that this isn't a neat idea, but you might like to know that several issues of Digital Hero presented an organization of "time police" called the Temporal League which is firmly grounded in the Hero Universe, including notable operatives drawn from various eras in that universe's history. They could be useful either as the basis for a campaign in their own right, as allies for your Malvan character, as even as opponents for same if she is inclined to meddle in the timeline. Issue #26 describes the history, equipment and heroic-level operatives of the League, and here's a free sample from that article. DH #23 writes up the "super level" operatives of the League, and here's a sample from that. Finally, issue #33 presents new temporal villains and nonaligned NPCs over and above official characters, with one last sample. I should probably also mention that The Ultimate Vehicle includes a "Chronoportation Box" on p. 103, which is very obviously based on a TARDIS.
  19. Re: Which characters would you enjoy playing? Call me crazy, but the name I bolded sounds suspiciously like a clue... Say, Battling One, assuming my assumption above is correct, will we be seeing Dr. Draconis as well? I really liked the original Deathstroke myself, but I thought their "government by crooks who are at least honest about it" concept was quite original and a lot more could have been done with it. I played up that angle in a past campaign using Deathstroke, which did incorporate Scatterbrain and her dad from the revamp. If you want to sway people to your philosophy, a publicist and a mind-controller are good investments. The overall silliness of the team revamp did bother me, but I favored the costume change. More teams should have an overall uniform look to reinforce their teamness. In my use of Deathstroke all their agents wore their own version of the "dagger" outfit.
  20. Re: Rulebook reference help please There is no point cost difference between, say, one 100-point reserve Multipower, whose slots you can't combine for a MPA, and two 50-point reserve Multipowers which you can combine, assuming the same number and Active Point size of the slots. However, if MPA were allowed in the first case it would be a more flexible construct, since you could mix and match slots freely, whereas in the second case you'd be assigning specific slots to either one Multipower or the other, restricting which Powers you could combine. In addition, with a single Multipower you can improve OCV for any slot using 3-point Combat Skill Levels, whereas two or more MPs would require at least 5-point Levels. So, the single Multipower is noticeably better if you allow MPAs with its slots. Is it sufficiently better to become a balance issue? That would be a GM call, and I guess we've heard where Steve Long comes down on it. Considering how many times Steve has bent his own rulings in published books to get the effect he wants, though, I really don't feel bad about doing the same.
  21. Re: Immune to Stun Only I agree with those who say that the SFX of this ability is questionable. However, if you're going to go ahead with this anyway , I would say that Limited Desolidification is the simplest and most efficient build. Note that according to the rulebook description of Desolidification, it's well within the GM's purview to waive the requirement for "Affects Solid World" on STR and Powers if the Desolid is sufficiently Limited.
  22. Re: Runequest Races The thread with all those fine writeups is here: http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33560 . Note also the links embedded in the first post on the thread, which will take you to sources for lots of other great Runequest/Glorantha stuff.
  23. Re: CHAMPIONS OF THE NORTH -- What Would You Like To See? That was an element of the previous incarnation of the Canadian arch-supervillain Borealis, who is part of the 5E CU. He was a rival/foe of Invictus, who is also in the CU and written up in Villainy Amok and Evil Unleashed. Since the guy who created both characters is writing CotN, I'll be surprised if that rivalry doesn't carry over.
  24. Re: Conversions...City of heroes? There's been a very small amount of converted material and conversion guidelines posted to the forums: http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32537 http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16952 On several occasions people have posted requests like this, and discussed whether and how it would be doable, but not much concrete has materialized yet.
  25. Re: Rulebook reference help please Hugh, my thanks and Rep to you. I think I'll hold off presenting my own opinion/analysis of the matter, until I see if anyone else wants to start a discussion over it.
