  1. Re: Making a "Wall Jump" power I don't see a problem with just using extra inches of Leaping to do this, maybe requiring an Acrobatics roll to use them. The special effect is to bounce from foothold to foothold.
  2. Re: Whatever happened to...? Wow, that's quite a list of people you can name offhand. Thanks to everyone who answered my original post.
  3. I was looking over my older Hero books last night and got to wondering whatever happened to the Hero authors of yesteryear. Are they all still around and posting on the boards under pseudonyms, or did they leave the fold and go off to other game systems, or did they stop playing RPGs entirely? Whatever happened to those authors of supplements past? Anyone know? Who have you been curious to know about?
  4. Re: "This is Aleph, and you're on the Global Frequency..." Yes, that is her. I didn't recognize her from her Next Generation role.
  5. Re: God of the Machines Something I don't recall seeing anyone mention in this thread is the subject of computer viruses. Would a computer virus be considered a type of demonic possession? Where would they come from? Could the androids create them as a type of weapon to use against each other, or would they be methods of indoctrination into a certain method of thinking? If they are not intentionally created, perhaps the android civilization could have a concept of 'the Devil' or some similar entity who creates these viruses. Elaborate rituals could form over time for cleansing an individual android of a computer virus, like a type of exorcism. Other rituals could exist to provide protection from such 'demons'. Taking the idea of quantum computers forming their brains, it is possible that irregularities could form in individual androids, creating these viruses, like humans develop various madnesses. But there could also be old, forbidden places, where computer viruses dwell within ancient computers, awaiting some curious android to unleash them. Depending on the virus, it could awaken the unfortunate android into some kind of 'Dark Prophet' that seeks to lead the populace away from the teachings of the Machine Prophet mentioned earlier.

    Supernatural

Re: Supernatural They do a brief recap at the beginning of the show of how the two brothers became involved in the supernatural hunting business, and also short glimpses of prior episodes. I thought the Bloody Mary episode (#5) was the scariest so far.
  7. Re: "This is Aleph, and you're on the Global Frequency..." I came across the pilot on a bit torrent site by accident, and I downloaded it since I recognized the name from the comic. The actress playing Miranda Zero (the head of GF) was most recently seen as Admiral Kane (sp?) on the new Battlestar Galactica. She seems really good at playing tough women.

    Supernatural

Re: Supernatural There are some serial elements, but I don't think it will be that hard to pick up on the story. It's the first season, and they are only about five episodes into things. You can find all the epsidoes out so far on various bit torrent sites, which makes it fairly easy to get caught up on things.
  9. This new series on the WB seems to be a pretty decent basis for a Dark Champions campaign about monster hunting. Anyone else watched it? The two main characters seem like about 50+50 Competent Normal types, but I may be underestimating them.
  10. Re: Infinite Crisis This statement does bring things back to the gaming table in a way. How much of an influence do "normal people" have in a campaign? How much influence should they have? Are they mere window dressing, while the gods in spandex go about their lives, play their ego games and have their battles with each other? Do the superpowered in your campaign really care about the non-superpowered, deep down inside? How does that DNPC of Mr. Superhero really feel about people with powers? For that matter, how does Mr. Superhero feel about the non-powered people in his circle of friends, family and acquaintances? Are they somehow "less real" than his buddies at the superteam HQ or those supervillains that keep showing up looking to break his jaw? I've played in campaigns where the PCs tend to get bubbled up with only each other and fellow superhumans for the major interactions. How have others dealt with this in their campaigns?
  11. Re: Valdorian Age at 1/2 Price -- should I buy it?
  12. Re: Robert E Howard or J.R.R. Tolkien?
  13. Re: "This is Aleph, and you're on the Global Frequency..." The comic was interesting, and so was the TV pilot they did. Any suggestions on how this might work as a campaign? It would be a bit like X-Files, normals investigating strange phenomena.
  14. There are a thousand and one people on the Global Frequency. A worldwide independent defense intelligence organization with a thousand and one agents, all over the world. Anyone you know might be with them. It's the world's little open secret. You could be sitting there watching the news and suddenly hear an unusual cellphone tone, and within moments you might see your neighbor leaving the house in a hurry, wearing a jacket or a shirt with the distinctive Global Frequency symbol... or, hell, your girlfriend might answer the phone, and then put on her Global Frequency badge and promise to explain later... for all you know, they have your file, and you'll be recruited next... anyone could be on the Global Frequency, and you'd never know until they got the call... ...from Aleph, central dispatcher for the Global Frequency, getting her orders from Miranda Zero, creator and operator of the organization. Not her real name, but the only one you're getting. Her real name and identity were erased from the world's records the moment she went into business for herself. Global Frequency is run on the cash she made doing bad things in the Nineties, and on the hush money paid her by the G-8 industrialized nations for... ...for what the Global Frequency does. Clearing up after the 20th Century. Keeping an eye on the bad mad things in the dark that the public never found out about. All the black projects, the mad science, the chilly encounters with the unknown, the Cold War traps... they're all sitting there like landmines. Eventually someone will trip over one of them. Global Frequency are there to catch them when they fall, and defuse the mines before they explode into mainstream consciousness and cause more pain and horror than they already have... Are you on the Global Frequency?
  15. Re: Making a Ninja Hero Campaign with Anthro Characters I would suggest browsing through either Fantasy Hero or Star Hero for package ideas. Cat people, dog people and other types could easily be replicated by using them. Another option would be to ignore the idea of them having special abilities. They look like a humanoid cat, dog, or whatever but have the same abilities as humans.
  16. Re: Thoughts on Dr Yin Wu Another thing to consider are the Dragon Mandarin's ex-wives and the children he had with them. Sure, he has the Four Sons around, magically-created bodyguards and enforcers, but what about his other progeny? It's probably the influence of Ra's Al Ghul's daughter Talia, but I can picture the "Daughter of the Dragon" as being quite a fearsome sorceress and martial artist, and I think she'd make a fun lieutenant for the Dragon Mandarin, especially as a possible romantic interest for a PC. And can you imagine what the old sorcerer's ex-wives might be like?
  17. Anime seems to have stylistic similarites to Pulp, which I noticed after watching Read or Die. I was thinking retro-style shows like Steam Detectives or maybe Nadia mainly fit in here. What other shows would you put in the Pulp category when it comes to style?
  18. Long, long before Star Wars and the Jedi, there were the Lensmen. Now that Pulp Hero is out, has anyone used it to help set up a Lensman-style pulp sci-fi campaign?
  19. Re: Thoughts on Dr Yin Wu I don't have my books with me, but aren't limited levels automatically considered to be for Offensive OCV only?
  20. Re: basic permanent stats Well, average is a relative term in Hero. You could make a character on 50 points, 200 points, 1000 points, etc. Do you mean average for a specific campaign, or an Average Joe? In a Superhero campaign, an example average would be 350 points. In a Heroic campaign, an example average would be 150 points. YMMV
  21. Re: ghost characters campaign For a great source of ghost gaming ideas, I would recommend checking out "Orpheus" by White Wolf. The characters work for an organization that provides help with ghost phenomena. Some are living and able to project their spirits to intereact with ghosts, and some are dead. It reads a bit like "The Sixth Sense" done as an RPG. I think you could mine it for plenty of ideas for your campaign.
  22. Re: Hell's Gate Open (My New Game - Comments?) One Hero resource I would suggest is Surbrook's Stuff. He has a campaign world written up called The Phenomena Department which is similar. I think you'll find it useful.
  23. Re: Hero System: Anime Actually, it sounds a bit like how spirits are used in Valdorian Age. A sorcerer has a Summon, a Multipower of different effects as a shorthand way to show what he/she can do with them on a regular basis, and an Endurance Reserve. I suppose you could simplify things and have a Summon power only, limited to those spirits already controlled.
  24. Re: Character: Marie Sanguine
  25. Re: Valdorian Age Character Posting Thread My one contribution to the Valdorian Age on these boards. I finally got around to fixing the coding to work with the new board setup. Marna the Manslayer There's both a 400-point experienced version and a 150-point starting version at the top of the thread.
