1. And a two-fer...This is the Suicide King, a pocket Brick MA damage sponge who might fit in a high powered DC:TAS campaign... Brawler Brick 6.hdc
2. Next up, Viridian, a Blaster built with kelvartie based powers, Surveillance skill set and a obsessive personality... Blaster 6.hdc
3. Inspired by Hermit's The People of Campaign City: http://www.herogames.com/forums/topic/92167-the-people-of-campaign-city/ and Chris Goodwin's request for characters built with the Superhero Galley from Champions 6th: http://www.herogames.com/forums/topic/94448-characters-wanted-superhero-gallery-champions-powers/ and because I need to get the creative juices flowing, I've decided to build fully fleshed out characters using only the Superhero Gallery, one for every power category. I will make all attempts to link them back to the Champions Universe and not vary too far from the layout given by the gallery. First up, and Aquatic Brick with a Water Blast MP which was built through an OAF to fit his background and to allow for enough points to purchase the Atlantean package from Hidden Lands. This is Moray, a Captain in the Atlantean army. Aquatic Brick.hdc
4. I ran two that were pretty cool: On December 13th, Danny Bonaduce is kidnapped and a home improvement store is broken into, the only thing stolen, a pear tree. On December 14th, a freezer truck is hijacked, the only thing stolen, 2 ice cream bars, Dove bars is the brand, flavor, turtle. On December 15th, 3 women of a certain age are kidnapped, all of French descent. On December 16th, the heroes track down Foxbat attempting to steal five antique gold rings from a museum, foiling his 12 days of Christmas crime spree. Chicago experiences extreme weather crisis...artic temperatures on the North Side, desert heat on the South Side...where the two fronts meet in the middle, tornados threaten to tear Downtown apart. The cause, Heat Miser and Cold Miser from the Rankin Bass 'The Year without a Santa Claus' holiday special apparently come to life. They are actually robots created by Black Harlequin.
5. How realistic is your campaign world? If it parallels the Real World, I could see a philanthropic character donating the material or perhaps the formula for the material to clothing manufacturers for making clothes to be donated to high crime areas. Living in the suburbs of Chicago, there is unfortunately multiple shootings almost every week with a lot of innocent bystanders getting hurt or killed. Sorry if that's a little heavy.
6. Earth/Stone utilizing the Sand/Mud stat package, Body of Sand/Mud attack power set and some stuff from Champions Powers, with a Generic skill set. The Susceptibility uses the optional damage rules, character is hit with a 2d6 Entangle if a Heat/Fire attack does body, representing being fused into glass. The character is essentially a stretching Brick with some different SFX. Stone 6.hdc
7. I have to thank you for posting this thread. I discovered a couple of unfinished builds that I decided to finish to cure my boredom. Here's the first, based off of the Aquatic/Underwater Denzien package taking into account the Atlantean package from Hidden Lands to again tie it back to the CU. Sort of Aquaman/Namor lite. Underwater Denzien.hdc
8. Here's an unusual one, Brick based on the Brawler stat package. Sort of a pocket Brick with Brawling MA, can take damage but is not bulletproof, PRE based skill set, and generic Disads. Don't quite know what I was thinking here... Brawler Brick 6.hdc
9. I have a couple of characters that I whipped up when I was bored. Here's a generic Energy Blaster with a Spy/Surveillance skill set, disads reflect exposure to Kelvarite to tie it back to the CU Blaster 6.hdc
10. I used the Monster a couple of times...as the embodiment of Fear itself. Did the classic horror bit where the heroes thought they had him stunned and he disappeared, only to reappear somewhere else.
11. I try to avoid using published character's names on my originals. I recently started reading Marvel's Ultimates and realized that they created a character called the Blue Marvel which was also a name I used in my own campaign. The character is from the Silver Age, albeit 'tarnished Silver'. From my campaign timeline, circa 1956: The Blue Marvel sees his first action. Underworld rumor is that the Marvel is the Chicago Police's 'masked solution' for problems they cannot handle directly. The Blue Marvel was indeed a policeman, James 'Blackie' Fagan, who donned a costume to give an at the time corrupt police department an in into the subculture of masked heroes. He's pretty much a peak human shield slinger HTH specialist . Picture is attached, the emblem on the shield is the flag of the City of Chicago. I'm looking for a new Silver-Age sounding name for him. I'm leaning towards Captain something, but don't want to steal too much from Captain America. I thank the learned panel in advance for any and all suggestions.
12. That's a really cool idea. While I never framed it in a 5th week, I have done a couple of things to shake up the routine: I've handed out sheets of the NPC cops and agents the characters interacted with and played my rendition of the PCs back at them In the vein of X-Files/Supernatural, after a particularly heavy, drama intensive storyline, I've done a 'comedy episode'. These included a cartoonish parody villain team based on the PC's in another campaign mine alternated with and a three way slugfest between my versions of Hercules, Thor and a Lobo homage/parody which the PCs had to avert. My GM mentor in college did a cool one where one of the PCs fell asleep reading his daughter the Hobbit and dreamt of fantasy versions of the PCs. He handed out Fantasy Hero versions of our characters and we played out the dream.
13. Having recently purchased the Superhero Gallery Expanded via the store, the entry on the Themed Gadgeteer prompted me to try to build a character based on the Green Goblin, who I always thought had a cool and unusual suite of powers. For the unfamiliar, per Wikipedia: What I don't want to do is take the Goblin and slap a different coat of paint on him i.e. Jack O' Lantern, Boogeyman, etc. I want to drop the horror/Halloween gimmick (and the insanity). The question I pose to the learned panel is how do I re-theme the character while keeping the same suite of powers? What do the pumpkin bombs become? What about the Goblin Glider? I'm open to any and all suggestions. As always, thanks in advance.
14. Wow, yeah, I really like that name. Except I think I'll use it for an actual sword guy ala Shatterstar or Deadpool...with no less than six swords strapped across his back, as impossible as that is. And I think I actually hit on a team name... In the wake of the Battle of Detroit and with the number of heroes in Chicago at an all time low, a new team emerges seemingly out of nowhere. Given to brutal tactics, Bloodforce 13 seems less interested in typical heroics, rather pursuing a mysterious agenda that puts them on both sides of the law. Bloodforce is pretty much the worst name I could come up with and the 13 is for...reasons, as the kids like to say.
15. This is exactly what I was going for and that's a great name. Again, good suggestions. I always thought Bloodstrike, a Liefeld creation, was one of the worst team names ever. I know I'll hit on the team name if/when I hear it and hate it. Extreme Justice, Extreme Measures...there's something there. Okay this has gotten my creative juices flowing. Here's what I've got so far... Khord: Gun toting cyborg leader. Intimates that he's from the future on some mission of great import. "Why did you kill the Deputy Mayor?!?!" *grimacing* "It's complicated." Bludgeon or perhaps better Bludjun: Obligatory small-head, huge-body brick. I don't seem to recall any of these guys having a character hook other than being big and strong. I know I need an claw/blade guy with a compound name like Ripclaw/Warblade and the required scantily clad female with porn star proportions but nothing's jumping out at me yet. How about a fifth member? Isn't the 90s when Marvel had the run with the dark magic guys like Ghost Rider and the vampires and stuff...Midnight Sons or something? Thanks for the suggestions, keep them coming!
16. This makes the most sense to me, which is I why I voted that way. Warlord has the weapons and manpower to bring the warlords under this thumb, eliminating those that would oppose him, arming those that would ally with him and adding them to his Shadow Army. Much of the continent is also unstable or barely stable, making it ripe for conquest. Again, I agree completely. The Kinematik option whiffs a little to closely to Magneto/Genosha which IMHO doesn't really have an appeal, but that's me. As far as a write-in candidate, how about the forgotten master villain King Cobra infecting a humanitarian aid delivery with the COIL Gene changing a portion of the populace into slavishly loyal snake men creating an instant horde to aid in the takeover.
17. My campaign timeline follows traditional comic ages i.e. heroes came about and had a heyday during WWII (The Golden Age), had a resurgence in the early 1960s (The Silver Age) and so on. In rereading some old stuff, I came across a couple of throwaway lines: "Bought the farm back in the Nineties sometime. Ran up against those clowns with all the ammo pouches and y's in their names." "Like I said, it was those guys with the bad haircuts and all the guns. I don't think they lasted past '96." It struck me that I never fleshed out the aforementioned 90s Iron Age anti-heroes. It has been a good long while since I've posted here, so I figured I'd open the build to the learned panel for suggestions. I was thinking of patterning them based off of the Image/Marvel formula of oversized strong guy, leader with a bunch of guns, claw guy, etc. but I'm open. What are the character types that are a must for the gritty period of 90s comics? How about some hero names with good 90s stink on them? What tropes from the era are good for a character background? Anything else I'm missing? I thank the learned panel in advance for any and all ideas.
18. Re: Classic Silver Aged Style Team Rosters Yes, the latest version can 'write' to the .pdf format I'm using. Found it makes for easy visibility. Thanks for the compliment. I own all the Freedom City stuff and am actually a big fan of the setting. To say it had an influence on what I'm doing would not be wrong. Jeeze, good memory. Yes, actually this is my first attempt at fleshing out Slyfox's parents.
19. The American Manhunter...The Unknown Soldier! I'm planning on going all out points-wise on the 'Big 7'. Origin: John Harmon was the younger brother of James Harmon IV, the scion of the Harmon family, a long line of wealthy adventurers. While James was expected to continue the legacy of the Harmon family, not much was expected of his younger brother. Eschewing a jetset lifestyle, John joined the military over his parents protests. Being a Harmon, his inherent gifts blossomed in the service and he was recruited from the Green Berets to Delta Force and finally to the CIA. He travelled the globe amassing skills and becoming one of the Agency's top operatives. His brother James, as expected, used his brilliance to invent a suit of powered armor and become the hero Defender. It seemed that the brothers were destined to travel on very different paths...until the Battle of Detroit. John was recalled from the field and sent into Detroit to offer aid to the military. He ended up supporting an army unit along with his brother just as his Dr. Destroyer struck. Despite all of his skill, he was only human. He watched as his brother was vaporized by the Doctor. The same fate would have befell John if not for a brave soldier who leapt in front of Destroyer's blast. Even though his life was spared, John was still scarred beyond recognition. Identified only as one of the countless John Does in the aftermath of the battle, John Harmon was declared dead. After recovering from his injuries, John revealed himself to his trusted family servant, and with his help, used hte Harmon fortune and his espionage contacts to undergo processes to make himself better than human and amass an arsenal of the most cutting edge technology. He rigorously trained himself in the use of them, and fashioned a mask from the tatters of an American flag recovered from the scene of the Battle. And finally he took on a name in memory of the brave Army man who saved his life, a man who's name he never learned... John Harmon could not save his brother, or the soldier, or the city of Detroit...but the Unknown Soldier would stand ever vigilant against the forces of evil. Personality/Motivation: The Soldier is obsessed with with ensuring that tragedies like the Battle of Detroit never befall anyone ever again. Having no true Secret ID to maintain, he spends every waking moment either planning, training or fighting crime. Realizing to some degree that he is only one man, he formed the Champions to further his crusade. Powers/Tactics: The Soldier is a deadly hand to hand combatant and wields an arsenal of gadgets in his Utility Harness. He plans for every contingency and even his back up plans have back up plans. Perhaps his greatest asset is the sheer force of his personality (PRE) which can inspire either hope in the most dire of situations to his allies, or strike bone rattling fear in his enemies. Campaign Use: My take on the Captain America/Batman Mortal-Who-Can-Hang-With-The-Big-Boys. The Soldier has amassed a Rogues Gallery of Arch Enemies including Rictus, a skull faced madman obssessed with creating chaos; Rasputin, the immortal psychic Russian monk turned crimeloard and the Spider Syndicate, a group of archnid themed villains led by the beautiful but deadly Red Widow. Appearance: John Harmon has been horribly scarred as a result of the Battle of Detroit, although he can conceal the scars with extensive prosthetics when neccesary. The Unknown Soldier's costume is red, white, blue and black. His full face mask is made from an American flag. Rep to Recluse for the Spider Syndicate. 20. 2nd Try...Introducing Thunderman Okay going to try and roll this again. Trying to think of a good Silver Age styled appellation for this guy, so Rep to anyone who can help me out. Origin: The child that would become Thunderman was discovered by a farmer and his wife in a crater left by a massive lightning strike in the middle of thier fields. The Clarks named the boy Donald and raised the boy as their own, instilling their old fashioned values into the lad. On his 18th birthday, he was confronted by an one eyed old man. The old man revealed himself to be Odin, King of the Norse Gods and explained that Don was the son of Thor, hidden away on Midgard to save him from the enemies of his father. Odin used his mighty magic to activate the Blood of the Aesir that ran through his veins, giving Donald a fraction of the power of his mighty sire. Naming himself Thunderman, he became one of the greatest heroes of the Age. When the Unknown Soldier formed the Champions, Thunderman was one of the first to join, and became the team's powerhouse. Personality/Motivation: Raised with a strong sense of right and wrong, Thunderman is a hero because the world needs heroes. He esposes the best qualities in Humanity, which sometimes leads people to believe he's a Boy Scout. In actuality, he was also raised with a lot of Common Sense, and can be very pragmatic. He's studied everything he can about his heritage, and holds a Ph. D. in Mythological studies. In his Secret Identity, he is a professor at MCU. Quote: "Good doesn't mean weak, as you're about to find out." Powers/Tactics: Thunderman is superstrong, nigh invulnerable, can fly at tremendous speeds, and can fire mystic lightning from his eyes, which his calls his 'Thundervision'. He is also a crafty, using his superstrength creatively for different effects (Brick Tricks VPP). Like his father Thor, he is succeptable to mystical deception and illusions. Campaign Use: My tribute/analog to Superman/Thor with a little Captain Marvel thrown in. His arch enemy is his uncle, Loki, the God of Chaos. Loki's earthly guise is that of Luke Woodson, multi-millionaire investor. Appearance: Donald Clark is big, broad shouldered and good looking in an All-American sort of way. As Thunderman, his costume is blue and black with a red cape and golden highlights.
21. Re: Classic Silver Aged Style Team Rosters Well, its taken 5+ years, and a new Edition of Champs for me to get around to this, but I'm finally doing it. Messing around with http://fabricadeherois.blogspot.com/, and influenced by this ancient thread, I started coming up with my version of a classic Silver Age JLA/Avengers line up for the premier team in my new universe. L to R, Back Row: The Albatross (requisite Winged Guy ala Hawkman/Falcon), The Baroness (Warrior Woman/Alien Outsider ala Wonder Woman/Ms. Marvel/Martian Manhunter), Pipeline (he's covering a lot...Nice Guy with Odd Powers like Elgongated Man/The Beast, Superstar like Booster Gold/Wonder Man, New Guy like well, all the new guys over the years and Water Guy ala Aquaman/Namor), Thunderman (Superman/Thor natch), Doc Cicada (Shrinker/Armored Scientist per The Atom/Hank Pym/Iron Man). L to R, Middle: Dr. Quantum (Cosmic Master of Energy like Green Lantern/Captain Mar-Vell), the hither-to-be-named Sexy Sorceress (Scarlet Witch/Zatanna). L to R, Foreground: The Unknown Soldier (Batman/Captain America Ultimate Mortal Badass), White Rabbit (Female MA with a schtick ala Black Canary/Black Widow), The Fox (Wisecracking Bowman like Green Arrow/Hawkeye). I'm thinking of using Kinetic as the Speedster, because as Speedsters go, he's not bad. And I'm still contemplating my Vision/Red Tornado analogue. As I start coming up with stats, I'll post 'em. As always, comments and suggestions are welcome.
22. Re: Your characters, favorite by Archetype Brick - Hard to call. My current fave is a GMPC Ingot. Imagine Ben Grimm made o' metal. Energy Projector - Horus the Avenger, essentially an Egyptian Thor. How can you not like spouting lines like "You now face the talon of Osirus!" Gadgeteer - Never had a chance to play a pure Gadgeteer. Martial Artist - Hellion, a Martial Artist by default. A street thug cursed with immortality seeking redemption. Mentalist - Never played one, but Rec's Gaze is my favorite one I've ever seen played. Metamorph - See Patriot Mystic - Too many to name. A few...Magenta, the sexy sorceress who knows she's hot; Santeria, a sexy sorceress with deep religious conviction and an underlying passions; Lady Luck, the mystical embodiement of Las Vegas; Barriel the Drunken Angel, like one of the angels from Dogma, a lot more easy going; John 'Tex Arcanna' Montegue, imagine Val Kilmer's Doc Holiday as a wizard. Patriot - I have a whole team of each one of these archetypes with the Patriot package, Team S.P.I.R.I.T., DOSPAs strike team. Powered Armor - Winterhawk, natch. Speedster - Haven't done one I like yet. Weaponmaster - None other than the roof running, swashbuckling, doer of daring the Stupendous Slyfox!
23. Re: Worst comic book superfight ever I seem to recall a non-Peter David issue of the Hulk where the green goliath was fighting the Circus of Crime...and was choked out by a boa constricor...but I hope I'm remembering that wrong.
24. Re: Champions Christmas Adventure Seeds! A couple I have run... Foxbat (or insert your favorite nutball villain) is on a seemingly chaotic crime spree. On Dec. 13, he kidnaps Danny Bonaduce and breaks into the local arboretum and steals a Pyrus communis. On Dec. 14, he breaks into an ice cream shipment and steals exactly 2 Dove bars, of the turtle variety. On the 15th, he kidnaps three middle aged women visiting from Paris. On the 16th, four female telephone operators go missing. Its the 17th, and an original manuscript of the Book of Five Rings is on display at the museum... Can you stop the fiend and end his twelve days of Xmas larceny? One half of the city is gripped in near arctic conditions, the other, in record warmth. Your favorite robot building mad genius has created life sized, fully powered replicas of his favorite holiday TV special characters...Heat Miser and Cold Miser from A Year Without A Santa Claus. Can the heroes defeat the claymation automatons before the city is ripped apart by the opposing climate extremes?
