  1. Re: Original Supervillain Groups -- Get Creative! Had a similar group myself, called The Eminance Front. Led by Baba O'Reilly, the Pinball Wizard, a magnetically powered hippie who preached peace and love to disenfranchised youth, but really just wanted to get rich. The Front Consisted Of: Street Fighting Man: Fought w/Improvised Weapons Sugar Magnolia: Pheromonal Mind Control (from the lyric 'she is everything delightful') Cinnamon Girl: Crimson Ionic Energy Brick ala Wonder Man Nowhere Man: Living Black Hole There were a couple of more that escape me...
  2. Re: Names needed Lemme ponder the image animator for a bit... As for the teleporter, may I suggest Tesseract.
  3. Re: Silver Age-y Sounding Name Help No, none what-so-ever. He's basically a throwaway character I'm using in a background/historical piece I'm writing for my campaign. And the winnah...Powerfist! I knew I'd know it when I heard it. Something tough but cheezy! Speedball and Hermit: Look for the misadventures of Powerfist on the Interlude Thread of 'A Game of Chance' soon.
  4. Need a name for a villainous brick around during the early Silver Age, around 1960. Nothing special or odd about his powers, just a bad superstrong guy. Thanks in advance.
  5. Re: Juke Box Heroes In my experience as a roadie/stage manager for a couple of local bands, I've found that even if a band ascribes to one genre, that the individual members might have very diverse influences. The drummer could really be into reggae, the guitarist may be into classical, etc. Gaining superpowers may give the members the opportunity to allow their influences to come to the front, so the guitarist of the metal band becomes Virtuoso, the classical shredder guitarist, the drummer becomes Wailer, the dreadlocked Rastifari, etc. Don't forget about the clashing egos, as it seems all bands have this problem (at least the ones I've dealt with). May I also suggest (for purely self-centered reasons), that if your doing the radiation accident on a tour bus origin, you include a couple of superpowered roadies. They come in two varieties: the big guy who lifts the amps, passed out band members, etc and the tech, who can "take some duct tape and zip ties and make a skateboard".
  6. Re: Ideas for a Black Canary Homage I probably should have explained myself a bit better. I'm looking to make a Black Canary Homage with a gimmick power that's not a sonic scream. freakboy and LoresLost have the right idea. A female MA with a little 'something extra' if she needs it. Thanks for the suggestions so far and keep 'em coming.
  7. I'm coming up with the team of 'Big Gun' NPCs for my campaign. In the vein of Black Canary, I want a female martial artist with a 'gimmick' power like the Canary's sonic scream. Like BC, I want the character to be a primarily a martial artist, but have some power she can call on in a pinch. Also, any name suggestions would also be welcome, as long as its Black 'insert idea here'. Thanks in advance to the learned panel.
  8. Re: What 5th Ed Champs book has inspired you recently? USPD & Gadgets and Gear - I have found that it really facilitates quick character creation. Recently revamped a few 'old favorites' from 4th Classic Enemies using them. PS. Hermit, the above mentioned revamps will be showing in 'A Game of Chance'.
  9. I've been contemplating revamping the Champions in my campaign. While they serve as good exemplars for beginning players, they don't feel very 'comic booky' as the CU's premier superhero team. Fondly recalling the huge Silver Age rosters of the Avengers and JLA during the 70s, I realized there were a lot of commonalities between the two teams. Both had: An ultrapowerful Flying Brick with some energy powers from an alien planet/dimension (Superman/Thor) A warrior woman Brick (Wonder Woman/Ms. Marvel, the latter perhaps an homage to the former) A size alteration Metamorph (Wasp/Hank Pym/The Atom) A Speedster (The Flash/Quicksilver) A wisecracking, rebellous bowman (Green Arrow/Hawkeye) A sexy sorceress (Zatanna/Scarlet Witch) An outsider with unusual powers (Vision/Martian Manhunter/Red Tornado) A good natured hero with unusual powers (Elongated Man/The Beast) A female Martial Artist with a schtick (Black Canary/Black Widow) I realize I'm leaving a couple of biggies off the list, notably Captain America & The Batman, but I ask the learned panel am I missing any common character type or archetype. Thanks in advance for your input.
  10. Re: Theme Super Hero Teams
  11. Re: Theme Super Hero Teams Hmmm, heroic theme teams... Algernon Files has The Aerie, an all bird motif team. I have Team SPIRIT, the DOSPA sponsored team of all the Champions Archetypes with the Patriot add-on (Patriot Brick, Patriot MA, Patriot EB, etc.) The Argonauts all took names from Greek Mythos. Osirus 7: A team with a common background: all were normals present at the explosive death of the hero Osirus. All of them received a fraction of his power. Inspired by an old Silver Age Superman comic. The above was posted without reading the whole thread first.

    Super City

Re: Super City Contributed by Mrs. Winterhawk: Pretty Woman Blvd.: The Red Light district where all prostitutes are attractive, buxom, scantily clad, brimming with information and are constantly under assault by pimps, gang members and various other lowlifes. Despite their lifestyle, none have drug problems, No Crack Ho's here, boys!
  13. Re: Anyone get DC: TAS yet? Since I started this thread, just thought I'd throw in my $0.02. It finally showed up at my FLGS on Friday. Not accounting for the re-use of Scott Ruggles stuff from 4th (He's an underrated artist IMHO), the art is not bad at its best and really bad at its worst. A few of the art styles look like those found in Blood of Heroes stuff, which I consider to have the worst art in the history of gaming. While I understand Scott Ruggles and Storn Cook can't do every single piece of Hero art, I was hoping for something better than this. The content is very good. I think it provides something that Champs has been lacking since 5th came out: secondary and street level supervillains. I can easily see whipping up a Rogues Gallery out of a half dozen of the characters presented.

    Super City

Re: Super City Keystone District Police HQ: Where every cop is corrupt, stupid or only capable of turning on the Hero Signal. Donut deliveries daily! My own lame contibution. This is absolutely one of the funniest things I have ever read on these boards or anywhere else for that matter.
  15. Re: Gimme a cool challenge... Okay, I'll give him a try. Questions: 1) Does this guy have a code name? I usually get something going when I can place a name with a description. 2) Does the bodysuit have any pattern, insignia, etc I should know about? 3) Archangel styled wings: you mean jagged and angular?
  16. Re: Anyone get DC: TAS yet? Just curious, is the art presented in 'animated' style or Hero 'house' style?
  17. Either from the Online Store or their FLGS?
  18. Re: Weapon Name for Champions character? I believe that's called a tetsuobo or tetsubo, literally 'iron staff' in Japanese.
  19. Please go to the following link for a new Hero Central PBEM I am proposing: http://herogame.dans.cust.servlets.net/forums/showthread.php?p=730239#post730239 Please contact me via the boards or at lanceskijr@yahoo.com for more info.
  20. Re: The Essential Bad Iron Age Read anything by Rob Liefeld...especially X-Force and Youngblood As to genre conventions: Oversize everything: Shoulderpads, ammo belts, guns (esp guns) Misspell everything: esp 'y' instead of 'i' (white becomes whyte) All women should have perfect bods and show them off All superpowered characters should have a shadowy past that they have no idea about Definately stress style over substance...McFairlane once stated in an interview that he drew everything out, arranged the pages as to what 'looked cool', and wrote the dialog around that.
  21. Re: The Random Champions Project I have all of the Random Character 'packages' from the Champions Random Generator on HD already, I entered them all myself when I first got HD. If your interested in saving your self some data entry, I'd be happy to volunteer them. As far as your campaign idea, sounds cool. I often find the 'do anything you want' aspect of the Hero System can be creatively draining, and have used random generators as a jumpstart for creativity. If your planning on running the campaign online, count me in. PS I also have a random background generator from the defunct ezhero if your interested.
  22. Re: The Fan Boy Brigade Shouldn't it be 'dead duck walking'? Sorry, I need sleep.
  23. Re: Dr. Kirby Loo When retconning my campaign when 5th edition hit, the nefarious Dr. Lirby Koo became a Silver Age 'Red Menace' mad scientist, creating both 'State Heroes' for the Iron Curtain and American supervillains 'in order to undermine the capitalist dogs from within!'.
  24. If anyone is interested, I'm planning on starting a PBEM game on Hero Central set in Vibora Bay. The details can be found here: http://herogame.dans.cust.servlets.net/forums/showthread.php?p=654805#post654805 Please feel free to mail me with questions lanceskijr@yahoo.com
