  1. Re: Liefeld's Titans Hey everythings good.. as long as we don't lose sight of the fact that Rob Liefield SUCKS.
  2. Re: Liefeld's Titans Oh don't even get me started on Mr Pompus *** McFarlane. McFarlane got his start doing covers for Batman: Year Two. Then got a gig on Infinty Inc. just prior to the Crisis-saga Some really good work. But Toddy got all full of himself when he got the gig on the Incredible Hulk, working with Peter David. The writing on that book was incredible and McFarlane started taking ALL of the success. When he got to do the new Spiderman series I though hmmmm maybe it will be okay. But it was craptastic. And the fanboys ate it up. When McFarlane defaulted on his Marvel Contract to move to Image I wasn't surprised. I had a friend who got a job working for McFarlane's studio. Basically to do inking and some filler art. Well Todd got behind on an issue of Spawn (go figure) and sent the breakdowns to my friend to "finish pencilling and inking". My friend had less than 2 weeks to get the entire book done. He busted his ***, got the work done and it was incredible. So good that it won an award that year for best issue in a series. Everyone bought one, everyone heard about it...you know the Spawn gets mistaken for Santa Claus. Inside art credit? Todd McFarlane. Studis artists are great thing don't get me wrong. But credit where credit is due. Man I could on for days about the Rise and Fall of all that was comic goodness, brought to you by Mr Pompus and The Bad Man.
  3. Re: Liefeld's Titans Ohhh I get to rip on Liefield.... Okay so along time ago back in the late 80's, I was an aspiring comic book writer. Along with a few friends also trying to get int the industry, we made the con tours, part job hunting, part fanboy. At that time we met another group of aspiring artists and writers who had started their own small press comic, called Megaton Comics. These guys seemed pretty cool, Rob Liefield, Vic Bridges, Erik Larsen. Yeah now you're saying "Holy Cow. The Image guys." Yep those same people. Well anyway Rob (or as I like to call him The Bad Man) was all hyped about his team book they were planning for Megaton to release, called Youngblood. He had all these team pose pictures in his portfolio. Now as a writer with no ability to draw I am always envious of those who could, but after looking at his artwork, I made a comment how much Youngblood (at that time) resembled The Legion of Superheroes. Needless to say The Bad Man got all pissed off. I didn't even mention the fact that none of his character have ankles or the microcephilic monstrosities. But he was pissed. This sort of begun a war with his cliche and mine. My friend, an incredible artist (who I like to compare to Art Adams but with more talent) called Vic Bridges on his direct rips from John Byrne. I'm talking tracing. It was aweful. Erik Larsen was cool, he was the level headed one out of their group. So fast foward a few years and now The Bad Man is getting a break with DC comics drawing the restart of Hawk and Dove. Talk about the suck. No improvement. Also we cannot forget or forgive The Bad Man for what he did to 20 years of X-Men continuity. I sometimes wish I would have taken the bet and thrown him down the elavator shaft. Damn my CVK. Now move ahead a few more years and there it is IMAGE comics, the direct downfall of decent writing combine with solid artwork. Proof that just because you throw money at something doesn't make it better. To this day, my respect for The Bad Man is just slighty above that of rapists. Someone in the comic idustry needs to be slapped until they forget his name. Peace
  4. Re: What kinds of abilities should my charater have? Don't forget doing things like moving objects into the way of were someone will soon be. If you know the Flash is going to be running towards you at top speed in 3 seconds having a brick in the spot he'll be in just a nanosecond before will seriously put a cramp in Wally's day.
  5. Re: What's in a Name? Unforgiven brings to mind a priest or other such type. Here goes. Miles Killian was a devote Cathloic priest, but still just a man, filled with outrage and disgust at the state the world had begun to sink into. One evening while deep in prayer he was gifted with divine power, a direct instrument of God. With his new powers, the ability to see into the souls of man and know their true weight, he has begun to purge the world of those unfit for Heaven. Next: Vanguardian
  6. Re: Marvel Second Stringers. Help me out. My picks: Leader: Heather Hudson (Guardian) Metalist: Empath (from the Hellions) Brick: Nova (always a favorite) Martial Artist: Nomad (also a great back-up leader) Energy Projector: Photon/Captain Marvel I think this could be interesting. Peace
  7. Re: Now what do I do? Here's a thought. Have the entire group play the 4 Viper agents left behind to guard the captured players. After all the Nest has to deal with a mjor operation going down, leaving the players as the only thing that stands between a rescue and a promotion. My 2 cents Peace
  8. Re: If Invictus had a super team... What Steve Long needs to do is buy the product and convert to Hero. Hehehe Okay maybe I will start working on something like that. Who knows my bain might be able to handle such complex math and hysterical fits late at night. Plus I think I have a few friends who just might be crazy enough to help. Wish me luck. Peace
  9. Re: Adventure Seeds--Title Tag Starlight Peril in Hollywood: Foxbat, a long time fan of all things Star Trek is embittered when he learns that Paramount and UPN has cancelled Star Trek: Enterprise, his all time favorite Trek show. Calling upon the help of, the Amazing Exo-skeleton Man, Foxbat begins placing high tech, holographic projections around Hollywood to create perfect episodic encounters of his proposed Season Five. Of course the heroes are cast as the New Cast and must contend with the demented mind of Foxbat. "By the Light of the Silvery Doom" "15 Minutes...Or It's Free!" "He's not Mechanon. He's my Brother!"

    GAC Plots

Re: GAC Plots Hitler has created a special group of scientists to unlock the scientific laws behind the use of magick. These scientists figure out all the mathematical formulae to create spells and such. When science and magick combine horrible things begin to go wrong for those who do not control it. Technology ceases to function properly. Guns are little more than oddly-shaped clubs, tanks become steel walls. But magick isn't fairing well either. As they lack the true cohesion of higher math to function properly. The heros must use their resources to stop this threat. God forbid that the Nazi technomages lose control. Peace
  11. Re: If Invictus had a super team... Exalted is a fine example of what happens when anime, White Wolf, and no care for scope all run into each other after a night of tequilla shooters and beer bongs. I love the Exalted world. I hate the entire system of super-powered crap. But hey I'll admit I'm a Hero snob. Peace
  12. Re: Who is your campaigns "Bad Guy they love to hate" I'd have to say I have 2. Funny thing is one of them was a good guy. I had a GMPC named Paragon, basically the worlds version of Superman, but with some major doubts and angst. After years of abandoning the superhero world he reappeared to make amends. The team hated him instantly. It didn't help that he was Vulnerable to Mind Control and the villian team was filled with metalists. I've never seen a group be so hostile to a HERO. The second would have to be Dr. Destroyer. What more can be said? He's classic. And the people I play with will attest that he has been the thorn of their side. Peace
  13. Re: Punisher Vs Batman Actually Batman is number 3 according to DC. #1 is Connor Hawke #2 is Lady Shiva #3 is Batman It's all about Ollie's lil boy.
  14. Re: Best way to Build Cap's Shield? I' I'd have to argue on this one. Cap does and has missed his Con Roll. He's been knocked out by gas, nearly drowned, and once was under the effects of a bunch of Crack when a warehouse blew up (the 'Streets of Fire' arc). If 20 is concidered Max Human (and in Champs it is), Cap has a alot of 23's. He doesn't need a high Int or Ego, he has lots of skills. Now if you want Cap to be able to hang with Thor and the Hulk, you are not building a true Captain America. But hey it's your game. Peace
  15. Re: Best way to Build Cap's Shield? Okay I know I'm a little late on this one but man some of you people and the need to perfect stats is crazy. Cap's Str: I'd say at best he has a 25 Str. I'd give him a 23 Str, but 25 is fitting. Cap has displayed moments of greater strength, on occasions, which would suggest he Pushed his STR. If using the 25 STR example that would give him a 35 STR for brief periods. Cap's Dex: Years of experience and combat skill has given Cap great refelexes. But not on par with Spidey's or even Daredevil's. I'd Say his Dex is roughly a 20. (He gets beyond that with OCV and DCV levels, Talents like Fast Draw (bought for his punching and shield) Cap's Con: I'd say a 20. The Super-Soldier formula makes him healthier and he ages really slow. All handled by the proper Life Supports. Cap's Shield: Multipower is the best way to go, with a mix of Ultra and Multi Slots. Powers Stunts: Shield Throw - Energy Blast (physical) Agent Shield Throw - Energy Blast (physical) - AOE (Any) Shield Bash - HA Close Quarters Fighting - HA AOE (radius) Focus Destruction - Killing Attack (only vs. Focus) Passive Defense - Armor Passive Defense for Others - Force Wall (1" Area) Active Defense - Missile Deflection Force Absorption - Knockback Resistance Landing Device - Superleap (only to counter falling) Pry Bar - Extra Strength (only as a lever) Inspiration - Extra Presence (only used as Offense) The shield is an OIF (It can't easily be taken from Cap, unless he's been knocked out), Independant (anyone who has the shield can use the abilities ie, Vance Astro, Taskmaster, and even the Punisher) Plus I'd give him the Power Skill: So he can use these powers in unique ways if the situation calls for it. The effectiveness of these powers would be based off the power level of the game. I hope this helps. If you think I'm off-base please explain where and if I missed something also let me know. Peace
  16. Re: Campaigning for Supervillain PCs... Long ago I played in a Supervillian campaign that was able to give the players the oppurtunity to plan and succeed at crime AND still have the flair of the comic books. The villian group was called the Mutant Supremacy League (MSL) and required all members to be mutants and bad guys. The group was the sort that Magneto would have gathered to work for him, but without a Magneto. We planned bank heists, kidnappings, assassinations and other villianous acts in an attempt to make the world Mutant Friendly. Our adversaries were X=men like supers, mutant hating heroes and villians and sentiels. It went fairly well. Years later I decided to run a villians game. One player was chosen as the "Master" villian and the rest were badguys working for him. The game went fairly easy from a GM point of view. They planned crimes, worked out details and I played the heroes involved in trying to defeat them. Things were great until the villains started using traps and teamwork to take out supers. The killed Seeker during one of these fights, then showed up at his funeral and killed two more heroes. Things got ugly. Then years later (wiser and more experienced...okay I'll admit that nearly a decade had passed between these two groups.) I decided to give it another try. Villians. I mean I was gaming with a much more mature, post college crowd of incredible gamers and roleplayers. I'd be able to challege them mentally, get some intense development from evil villians, explore the pysche of crime. You know all the good things. What I got was The Brotherhood of the Divine. A group of muntant brothers who prety much pushed the limit of villain/hero and were filled with righteous belief that they could save the world. Hmmm some possiblity. In the first session they took over the world. (All i can say is 4th Edition had sopme rather LAX Sticky Rules. And I hate Drains.) I take blame. I wanted "Villains motivated by greed and anger". What I got was a bunch of smart people saying "If I was a supervillain how would I rule the world?" So if you are going to try a villian game. I suggest more discussion on the style of game you plan to run, the type of villians you intend to allow, and some for of organization or structure. AND god forbid, never, ever, ever let the players buy Sticky, AOE, Drains, with slow returns.. and be a tyrant make your players fear you. Peace
  17. Re: Galactic Champions, how will you use it? And all these years I thought they were called overlordettes.
  18. Re: Dark Champions: Secret Worlds Man o Freaking Man... I decided to post after reading the whole thread. I'm hooked. I love everything so far and hate all of you as well (lucky bastiches!!) I'm a Champs player from way back and a fan of Storn's since his first piece of artwork hit the hero books I so loved. (Even bought all the Dragon Magazines because of his artwork in Dragons of the North). So who do I have to bribe, impress, threaten, beg, or pay to play in this game? Unlike others I'm an Ann Arbor/Ypsi resident. Longtime Underworld customer. (Heck I've probably spent time in the sacred realm of the Underworld engaged in some diatribe about the greatness of the JLA, why Marvel has sucked for years, and how the "Bad Man" (Rob Liefield) is evil, evil, and evil.) Well either way I'm jealous. I hope you continue to make me so every week. Peace
  19. WWID Another cool one.. Hey any chance one ot the board moderator types could gather up all thes WWYD threads and the Alternate Earth Threads and put thim in one handy-dandy area? Please? I'll buy more Hero Products. Okay on to my Heros... Paragon: At first would worry about the local area, but as he realized the scope of the threat he would begin massive robot destruction. Seeing as how they're not super tough just lots, he'd grab a hunk of wall and begin smashing dozens at a time. Eventually he'd realize that others are fighting.. Gather as man as possible and coordinate a massive effort against the motherships. (He is after all the Superman of my universe.) The Patriot: Agent smashing galore. But he knows he'd be at risk fighting aboard a space ship so would coordinate with ground fighting and lead Rick Rage and the Agents of SWORD against the robotic invaders. StarKnight: To qoute StarKinight: "Why you intergalactic suckas gotta mess wif my home?" StarKnight,no stranger to the warring space nations contacts his fellow Knights of the Andromeda Star Empire and they gather the full might of the ASE and bring the pain. Granted it takes them a few days to show up, damn faster than light travel limits. In the mean time he'd get is family to safety. Beat up some robots. Fly to the moon and rip a piece off and smash it into a mothership. He'd play space frisbee and see if they can withstand the heat of the sun. (FYI StarKnight is basically what would have happened if the Nova Powers had gone to Lucas Cage. That will me very little to you young folk) Peace
  20. I agree there would be little change in the outcome of WWI. But WWII might have gone differently. With California an independant country, there would be little involvement with Hawaii, hence no US naval bases. The US was Isolationist at best. But with a divided North nad SOuth. The OSuth's dependance on the European purchase of their textiles would have drawn them into the war. They would have provided intensly trained small cadres of soldiers (The South was all about a States right to protect and govenr itself. So the mitlitary sent over would be state miltias. (Very deadly concidering the type of war fought in WWII) The North would remain distant and neutral (i real world the US wanted nothing to do with world politics and was heading towards an extreme isolationist view point). Northern Manufactueres would have dealt with whoever was providing money for their goods. I could see Germany making deal with the North US to provide Pittsburgh Steel and Detroit Engines for the German war effort. Which could have led to a second Civil War as the South turned north to stop the German Allies. Oha man I love speculative history. But regardless modern North America would be rough. You'd have a Capatalist/Socialist Government (Make money all you want but be responsible with it) in North US, a Democratic?Feuduel society (heridaroty transfer of wealth and politcal position) in the South US, and Robber-Barons (divided socio-economic leaders with precise, but contested, territorial control) in the California Free State. Superheroes would love some of the conflict, but man the line between hero and villian would become so blurry. But here goes my heroes: Paragon: Though born in New England has been charged with seeing the world protected from evil. Politics don't mean anything to him, but he would be somewhat against the lax civil liberties in the South. Patriot: A hardcore and staunch defender of teh power of Democracy..would have never existed in this time line. StarKnight: Born a poor black man in Detroit, StarKnight would be very typical angry and embittered over the fact that blacks are not treated equally. After gaining his powers he would begin dealling with unjust Southern leaders. He'd be a villian for all intents and purposes. Peace
  21. Sindrome is actually a Mentalist.. I envisioned her powers bought as Mind Control based on Con made NND (def is LS: does't need to breathe). To represent the heightend effect indoors I bought extra dice, only in that situation. Actually he's quite dangerous even when asleep. His powers don't effect him and if he's just in his normal rest mode he's only dangerous if your around him for days and says.. It's when he gets hit alot that he gets deadly. He's also addicted to "uppers" and made to sleep in a lead box. Great Idea. Hadn't thought about going the whole Nuclear, Chemical, Biological route. Would Sindrome fit the bill. With Sniper acting as sort of the team leader/contact. Okay these guys just got cooler in my mind. Thanks.. keep it coming by the way.
  22. Okay I'm running a game and am need of a themed group of villians for the PC's to bump into to. Here's what I have so far: The group is 4 members. They are superpowered mercenaries and terrorists. Unlike groups like Terror Inc. They really don't advertise any superhuman abilities, but they do have them. I've got a few ideas already but I'm wondering what you guys think. Sindrome : A beautiful, seductive woman, skilled in disguise and acting. Her body constantly exudes a pheromone that eventually cuases everyone to do anything they can to make sure she is alright. Outdoors she's not to effective but indoors, she's a nasty one to run into. Meltdown: A low level brick, Meltdown continously radaites radioactive energy created by his celluar structure. As long as he is conscious this energy level is actually non-leathal. But as he his celluar structure becomes agitated, or damaged, the radioactive nature becomes leathal. If he is rendered uncouncious while in this state he releases this stored energy much like a nuclear reactor gone bad. BioHazard: His body creates a biochemical virus that he can release in a cloud. Those who are exposed oftern becaome terminally ill within minutes. Sniper: A master sniper and expert with firearms, Sniper can accelerate any small piece of metal to near light speeds and throw them with incredible accuaracy and destructive force. If you could add/suggest anything I'd appreciate it. Thanks
  23. Ohhh Okay I can do this one too... The Patriot: TheUS Government creates a series of androids to act as special military troops, designed to slowly remove humans from the battle field. These units are called PATRIOT (no anagram). While in operation one of the units experiences a massive system failure. Unit number 5 becomes self-aware and continues to do what it was created for. Okay thats all I got. Peace
  24. Another Good One.... The Patroit: Having survived the Nuclear Strikes, Patroit would wander the land, seeking to continue the ideals of America, bringing hope to those he found, fighting despots and warlords at every turn. Just because people have made a horrible mistake, there is no need for America to be forgotten. Taking an American flag he would wear it as a cloak, the red, white, and blue shiled he wields still the symbol of America's greatest hero. Over the years he would never lose faith and conviction, but he would grow older as the cloning facility that the government uses, was destroyed in the strikes. In the year 2004 Patroit would be nearly 75 years old, but in incredible shape. His only fear that if he dies so dies America. StarKnight: Enraged that his family was killed when missle detonate in and near Detroit City, hardly penetrating his defenses (StarKnight can fly through space) he would strike at any of the world leaders left alive. He would blame the "Man" for all his problems (I should point out StarKnight was a hero during the late 60's and 70's. Desgnined to be your typical "blacksplotation" hero). Once he realizes the Earth is usuless, he would travel to the Andromeda Star Empire and take his place as Imperial Knight and never look back ( I should mention that no one in the A.S.E. is caucasian). Afterburn: As a young boy, he'd still develop his rugged self, but would never be injured and lose the lose of his legs in a football accident. His ability to harness and redirect solar energy would be used to provide power to his village. His powers would make them safe. Paragon: Would be a normal person. The hopelessness of the world would not provide enough energy to power him. He's simply be a guy trying to get by. However if he ever got near Patriot he might actually gain some increased strength, speed and toughness. Peace
  25. Okay basically Heinlien wrote two Universes. One was his early books (pre 1960). Once the space program blossomed and science fiction started giving way to science fact he created another universe. His fans however loved both and he wanted to begin to tie them together. He did a little of it, but mainly stuck with one world. Eventually there was tie in with the following books: Number of The Beast Glory Road Stranger in a Strange Land The Moon is a Harsh Mistress The Cat Who Walks Through Walls The Doorway into Summer Friday Methusalah's Children Have Spaceship Will Travel Starman Jones Waldo and Magic Inc. Job: A Comedy of Justice Double Star these books all have characters that are mentioned, related or appear somewhere in the other books. The "Moon Trilogy": The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, Friday, and The Cat Who Walks Through Walls are my favorites. Umm I'm a Heinlien geek by the way.... Peace
