  1. Re: Discworld HERO The Extradimensional Travel and Teleport would be UAO as well. Assuming that's what happened to those unfortunate enough to be "eaten". Oh, and Transform: Dirty Laundry to Clean, Folded Laundry. Keith "And maybe some PRE for that unnerving, eyeless stare" Curtis
  2. Re: Discworld HERO He also apparently has one of the most far reaching reputations on the Disc. He should also have a contact of some kind to represent the patronage of the Lady. I'd raise that Luck to 8d6, only in life-threatening situations, possibly linked to PS: Running. Dont forget Tiffany Aching, she has three books of her own. Poor Esk is promptly forgotten. That would probably be a good way to treat it mechanically. I wouldn't call it magic though. Probably Super Skills. More thoughts: Other races which might be playable are gnomes, gargoyles, freed golems and assorted one-shots like the elemental at the rim or a very minor god such as Bileous. Barbarian is a highly skilled class on Discworld. At a certain point, physical and mental characteristics seem to matter very little. Vampires and Werewolves seem to have the ability to pass their curse on through biting, but it's apparently far more common to just pass them along through family lines. Although it could be a template, it's more of a race. Keith "fun thread--thanks, Michael" Curtis
  3. Re: Discworld HERO I believe they use the male pronoun solely, at least in Morporkian. My feeling has always been the assumption is that every dwarf is male. No one gets the heebie-jeebies if a dwarf announces his own male gender, but it is considered rude to announce your female gender, even if you are not wearing high-heeled, steel-toed boots or put a bit of lace on your chain mail. But I suppose you could alter the Lim to Secret: Gender. I wouldn't make it a Psych Lim, since the repercussions for revelation are social. Keith "It's a dwarf thing; you wouldn't understand ;)" Curtis
  4. Re: Discworld HERO Death, the Soul Cake Duck, Old Man Trouble, et al. are probably best handled as plot devices. As for how to handle the various Guilds of Ankh-Morpork, I probably wouldn't bother with rule write-ups. Are they necessary? Races would be interesting. Troll intelligence would definitely require a limitation. Most trolls would probably buy +10 (+15?) Int with a mandatory limitation that they could only access +2 per temperature level shift downward from the norm. Female dwarfs would need Soc Lim: Secret - Female. Vampires would probably be the most expensive. The hardest to actually quantify would be witches. They rarely use magic and rarely need to. But when they do... Keith "20 Pre, Headology 18-, and a rock solid Rep will get you pretty durn far" Curtis Jacob
  5. Re: My Cool Color Hudson City Map Anybody who can backengineer that map (the most complex I've ever produced) from the printed segments has my vast respect. That's a monumental undertaking. Keith "" Curtis
  6. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? Just watched the Blackadder Christmas Special. Watched A Midsummer Nights Dream (a for-kids musical production), again. (My five-year old loves it) Keith "She also likes it as a bedtime story, and can tell the difference between Hermia and Helena, Demetrius and Lysander" Curtis
  7. Re: The Intangibles... (sounds like a group name, eh?) They were included as an option in Fourth Edition Horror Hero, with very few revisions from the Almanac Rules. They were a really cool idea, but had limited application. Or rather, they made global changes to the Hero System paradigm in order to do a limited number of effects and characters. Keith "Used them on a couple of characters anyway" Curtis
  8. Re: Need code name for cleaner The Guru Kap'n Karma Keith "He must be under thirty" Curtis
  9. Re: [Character] Popeye I don't think Spinach was a gimmick of the Thimble Theater strips. They were excellent pulp adventures, by the way. Keith "Uk-uk-uk-uk-uk" Curtis
  10. Re: GMs: Funniest Character Sheet Mistakes You've Seen. --expialidocious! Keith "Couldn't resist" Curtis
  11. Re: THE GREEN LANTERN has fallen Actually, Alan Scott's oath was originally, "And I shall shed my light over dark evil, for the dark things cannot stand the light, the light of the Green Lantern!" The other one came later and is, as stated attributed to another author, not Nodell. Keith "There's another thread on this, not that I begrudge the deceased" Curtis
  12. Re: I can't help it, I'm obsessed, made my own STUNx d6 Maybe put the Mind Control chart on one side, the Presence Attack chart on one side, the Riding rules on one side... Keith "Actually, it's a cool die" Curtis
  13. Re: I can't help it, I'm obsessed, made my own STUNx d6 Thanks Stevezilla, That's very different than what is implied in 5ER. Keith "never mind" Curtis
  14. Re: I can't help it, I'm obsessed, made my own STUNx d6 Mathematically, you subtract 1, and then add the Increased Stun Multiplier. Therefore 1,2,3,4,5,6. Keith "by the book" Curtis
  15. Re: GMs: Funniest Character Sheet Mistakes You've Seen. I've lost track of how many characters I have seen who have mastered the marital arts. Keith "That would be an expensive power..." Curtis
  16. Re: How do you know if a character name is already being used? My six primary characters were Champion, Brother Eye, Mimic, Photon, Reflex and Moonbow. All of these are existing comic characters (maybe not Reflex, but I'd be surprised if it weren't the case.) In most cases, I had never heard of another using the name before I did. None of them is remotely like the character with whom they share their name. If it's not a major icon, I wouldn't sweat it. Keith "OK, Mimic might be similar to other Mimics, but my approach was original" Curtis
  17. Re: Vast Underground So, he turned it into Las Vegas. Keith "Vegas has a catch-and-release program..." Curtis
  18. Re: Vast Underground I'd hate to see you wait that long. Here is a map. Just add monsters and treasure. Keith "The Palindromedary's friend" Curtis
  19. Re: Hex map for a railyard Dave beat me to it. Keith "shameless plugger" Curtis
  20. Re: Character: John Carter of Mars Thanks for the quotes. The bit with Salensus Oll was pretty much what I was trying to say, but more ineptly. Keith "Jeddak, Jed, Jedarra, princess??" Curtis
  21. Re: Character: John Carter of Mars You are likely confusing Jetan (Martian Chess) with Tri-D Chess from Star Trek. Jetan is two dimensional and played on a grid of one hundred squares. I built a Tri D chess board once, as well. Out of cardboard. It wasn't very pretty, and required paper chits for pieces, but it did function after a fashion, and allowed me to play by the rules I got out of some old fanzine. Keith "despite this, I'm not particularly good at any version of chess" Curtis
  22. Re: Character: John Carter of Mars Chessmen of Mars is probably the best and most popular. Keith "Made and played a Jetan board" Curtis
