  1. Re: Bewitched But not as clear as McCoy's. Keith ":hail:" Curtis
  2. Re: Genesis of +5 = 2x power REVEALED That was the essence of the discussion. There's a general impression that such things do carry through to INT, PRE and such, and Zornwil's previous thread was an attempt to track down where that impression came from and whether there is any validity or applicability to it. There were some interesting observations and conclusions. Keith "Once you sift through the dross" Curtis
  3. Re: Genesis of +5 = 2x power REVEALED accepted. Keith "sorry for the rain" Curtis
  4. Re: Genesis of +5 = 2x power REVEALED No, if you had read the post, you would know what I mean. An "average" person, by book definition, has 8's in the primary characteristics, making All-American 5.27x better. Mathematical curiosity. The post was referenced several times within the thread. I merely wanted to point out that this new thread, which was referencing the old thread to "reveal" new information, was in fact, covering old ground. Not trying to rain on your parade or anything, just trying to reduce noise to signal. Keith "but please continue" Curtis
  5. Re: Genesis of +5 = 2x power REVEALED Actually, that specific passage was referenced in Zornwil's recent thread on this very subject. This post. The mathematical incorrectness of the assumption is also pointed out. Keith "careful reader" Curtis
  6. Re: When you hear Urban Fantasy... I liked the War for the Oaks, by Emma Bull. That and Neverwhere are the things that I think of when I think of Urban Fantasy. Technically, "Angel" could be considered urban fantasy, and "Buffy", suburban fantasy. Keith "How about Rural Sci Fi?" Curtis
  7. Two or three guys with homemade equipment outdo Lucasfilms in terms of choreography. This was a lot more dramatic than the outrageous wu xia stuff we were given in Ep's I-III. At least you can follow the action. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AuS9OAE7j0c Keith "fun" Curtis
  8. Re: This is why I play Fantasy Hero Miko! Keith "Order of the Stick Fan" Curtis
  9. Re: To PLAY Or NOT To PLAY? Von D-Man and stmichaeldet said pretty much what I was going to say. Fortunately, 95% of the GMs I have players with in the last 20 years have understood this also. The heroes should win, to make a satisfying experience. They shouldn't win easily, and victories shouldn't come without cost, but yeah. The PCs are the heroes. For every overpowering bad guy, there should be some foils around to let the PCs shine. In fact, in later years, I have taken to playing underpowered PCs, just to make other PCs feel good about themselves. It's fun, and not so many big bads target you. Keith "The player's friend?" Curtis
  10. Re: Walking with Dinosaurs: Buidling Mechanical Dinos That was one of the coolest things I have ever watched. Keith "I want one" Curtis
  11. Re: Valdorian Age world map (dear Mr Curtis...) I just sent a fresh copy to Ben two days ago. Now that he's back in the saddle, I hope the map will be up and available soon. Keith "cross your fingers" Curtis
  12. Re: Hero System and Rpg.net That's just the main fight, too. He often has a couple of previous multiple-character melees. Keith "Derek Rawks" Curtis
  13. Re: HERO System GOOGLE Co-op Hey, I just did "savage earth", and not only did I come up first, the second hit was the next thread I have queued up in my tabs. Keith "queued is fun to type" Curtis
  14. Re: HERO System GOOGLE Co-op Working OK here, too. Keith "wants a playtesting credit" Curtis
  15. Re: Valdorian Age world map (dear Mr Curtis...)
  16. Re: Inherent for natural body parts This subject was discussed (a bit heatedly after a while) here. You might have to read in a ways before you get to body parts. Keith "Just saving time" Curtis
  17. Re: Muppet Champions I love this painting: Keith "Thank you, Alex Ross" Curtis
  18. Re: Muppet Champions Statler and Waldorf would have PRE Attack, requires incantations (heckling). Keith "Writing up the Swine Trek using Hero Vehicle rules" Curtis
  19. Re: Order of the Stick Of course. That doesn't stop us from being pedantic nerd-boys, though. Keith "pedantic nerd-boy" Curtis
  20. Re: Older Gamers, Older Characters? These are all going to be ranges. In some cases, there was no set age/calendar, in others, the span of play covered many years. Galen Stormcaster (Wizard) - 25 (long gap) 80's Hollister Hamlin (Bard and Herald) - late 20's Kurtak (Barbarian warchief) - Late 30's Nocturna (Post-apoc. Goth chick) - 16 (I think. The campaign was a rite of passage) Antioch Bellisarius (Fantasy Assassin) - Early 20's Yuuki (robot) - 150ish Ezili LaCroix (Vapor) - early 20's Llewelyn Harlech (Hogwarts, first year) - 11 John Kingsbridge (actor) - late 30's It seems that where age was not dictated by the campaign (ex: Hogwarts), I have preferred 20s-30s. Younger than that and they tend to lack skills, older than that and I wonder why they are out adventuring instead of settling down. I do seem to remember playing teenagers mostly when I actually was a teenager. Keith "Older than most of my characters" Curtis
  21. Re: You practice what-o-mancy? Curse you, keyes_bill, you beat me to it! Actually, I am very much enjoying the fact that I discovered Erfworld before I had to wade through five years of archives. Keith "loves the elves" Curtis
  22. Re: Does your Dungeon Master has military experience? While carrying a piano? Keith "hup!" Curtis
  23. Re: Order of the Stick I believe 1st Ed. AD&D cost you one point of Con, not a level, for each resurrection. If it was a level, the number of times you could be brought back would be effectively infinite. Keith "Hasn't played D&D since that edition" Curtis
  24. Re: Heroes for HERO? At first, he seemed to be very similar to the Wild Cards character, Deadhead. He doesn't seem to be doing much more than TK when we see him though. I still think Sylar is a dead end, left over from when they planned to end the miniseries after X episodes if it didn't catch on. Now that it is proving popular, they can't use their original ending. Keith "My theory" Curtis
