  1. Yeah, I had that thought too. Now, if you had a real Luck-based game-- there was a movie last year that revolved around acquiring luck-- it'd be pretty powerful, but in a default game it's nigh useless. Transform: Human into Unlucky Human, using the END Reserve? And Transform: Human into Lucky Human, with a linked Aid to the END Reserve? But yes, Derek's way is, as usual, probably better.
  2. Well... alright. As someone who loves both complex and elegant solutions to these kinds of things, I have an odd idea that isn't quite fully-formed. Basically, it works like this: Luck that Costs END, and an END Reserve that feeds it. The END Reserve only recovers through absorbing or stealing Luck, or by making an Unluck roll, so the Luck is tangibly, quantifiably limited to how much Luck is stolen (e.g., from flower-selling girls in Prague), or how much Unluck is experienced. How is this represented? Hell if I know. Transfer Luck to END Reserve? REC with RSR: Unluck? Anyway, it's an intriguing idea.
  3. I just thought of a very time consuming but flexible way to do this: use the Major Transform, as suggested previously. If/when it exceeds the target's BODY, the GM uses the total of the Transform dice as character points that can be used to alter the target's Characteristics up or down, as appropriate. E.g., the target has 10 BODY, and the Transform dice total 17. If the target is being aged and weakened, those 17 points could be used as follows: 5 points to lower STR by 5, 9 points to lower DEX by 3, and 3 points to lower END by 6. That kind of thing. There are probably huge, game-imbalancing flaws in this somewhere.

IMO, this is best represented by the Physical Limitation Disad, to reflect that this way of thinking is so deepy ingrained that the character can't go against it even if he were inclined to try: it's hardwired into his psyche, and struggling against it is about as effective as an amputee struggling to grow back a missing limb. Technically, it's still a choice he's making not to use his powers, but classifying it as a Physical Limitation means that there's no way he can overcome it-- and that sounds like what you're describing. Maybe one day, with experience, he can overcome this and turn it into a Psych Lim.

What with one thing and another last night, a shrunken Hummingbird, unsuccessful in her attempts to Mind Control our energy projector, was knocked back 17" into the hull of a nearby ship, knocking her halfway into next week and leading to this exchange: "Also, the authorities pick up Hummingbird." "What, do they put her in a jar?" "They put her in an ambulance."

  10. Oh! I didn't see the "or younger" part. Depending on how young you made someone, it could also drain the physical characteristics I suggested previously. Making an 80 year old man a 40 year old man, though, should Aid all those same characteristics simultaneously. Also, I get the impression maybe you're going for more gradual effects; if so, both the Drain and Aid could be bought as low as 1d6, although the Aid would need the max amount increased to make it effective. And both would need Decreased Return Rate. That Aid would be weird, though. 1d6 Aid, All Physical Characteristics Simultaneously, Only vs. Living Targets Who Would Benefit From Being Younger...?
  11. Make it a BODY Drain. Actually, make it two BODY Drains in a Multipower: 2d6 Drain BODY, Only vs. Non-living Targets 2d6 Drain BODY, Only vs. Living Targets, Delayed Return Rate: 5 pts/Year plus 2d6 Drain STR, Linked plus 2d6 Drain DEX, Linked plus 2d6 Drain CON, Linked Maybe a smaller Drain if you don't want to just kill people outright. IMO, the aging aspect is SFX; what your power is really doing is reducing the targets' physical characteristics and making them less effective. This is all off the top of my head. There's very likely a better way to do it, but this is what springs to mind.
  12. That's a good point. The definition for a -2 Limitation, IIRC, is the power losing almost all of its effectiveness. Is having additional STR only for this purpose as bad having additional STR that's, say, No Conscious Control (which, in itself, has all kinds of possibilities as well)? I think not. So, upon review, I'd make it worth less. Between -1 and -1 1/2, IMO.
  13. It's a largely rhetorical question, actually, but yes, I wouldn't buy STR this way for a decent, law-abiding character.
  14. I was thinking -2 myself, so it's nice to be vindicated. I'm not sure I actually want to get this for a character, but it would be handy to represent a guy who doesn't let obstacles like people and cars get in his way.
  15. Is it legal/accepted to put a Limitation on STR that's "Only to increase Casual STR"? If so, what would it be worth? If not, why? I can imagine why, but I'd like to hear other perspectives.

  17. Use the Limitation "Limited Power," and set it at whatever value you think would be appropriate for your game. -1/2? I'd probably go with -1/2. How many times would she want to use it at anything less than full power? Probably not all that often, so -1/4 or -1/2 would be appropriate. YMMV.

I know this isn't the answer to the question you've asked, but instead of what you've done here, I'd make his nemesis one of two things: 1) A Normal high-profile religious fanatic (e.g., a televangelist type with lots of PRE and Followers who turns public opinion against the PC and/or stoops to hiring lower-powered supervillains of questionable character to destroy the PC in the name of all that is holy and good. 2) Another demon, like what the PC used to be, who hates to see a fellow demon "go straight." Even better: the demon is under the guise of the Normal religious fanatic, above, and leads a highly-secretive double life as an agent of Hell. Anyway! Carry on.
  20. Just to clarify, this isn't a Hero/Amber game or anything, and this isn't really Logrus, but that was a close enough analogy that it served the purpose. I'll take a look at Summon as a possibility. I tend not to think of Summon for inanimate objects, but then again, I tend not to think of Summon for much of anything. Come to think of it, he does have a Ranged Summon of antagonistic, violent thugs/guerillas/etc. defined as teleporting pissed-off, armed, confused Normals into the vicinity of an enemy. No guarantee they'll start shooting at the first thing they see, of course, but it is nice and chaotic. Again, though, I've obviously been limiting my perspective on Summon to living subjects.

I'm running Return to the Tomb of Horrors in regular ol' 2nd Ed. AD&D some years ago. The party comes upon an underling of Acererak's they want to question, but she's not being cooperative. Mike, playing a cleric, is leafing through Tome of Magic. "Aha!" he exclaims. "I cast Thought Broadcast on her." Thought Broadcast is a wacky, goofy spell that lets everyone but the target in a 30' radius hear the target's thoughts. She fails her save, and the Thought Broadcast is on. "Where's the entrance to Acererak's pocket dimension?" he asks. "Ha!" she sneers. "I'll never tell you fools!" But in addition to this, the party hears her thoughts: "It's a good thing they don't know it's up the stairs and to the left! I'd never betray my master by leading them straight to him!" "What's his plan?" they ask, and again she's outwardly defiant, but telepathically compliant: "He's harvesting souls to dominate the Negative Material Plane!" And so on. Needless to say, they learned everything they wanted to know (and more). That game was chock full of scenes like that.
  22. Well... they also did have a pretty motivated desire to kick their asses, as well. I'd make them a Hunted. Really, I think the Blues Brothers have no rivals, and if they do, they're certainly classified as "Rival is in an inferior position." Without the SCMODS, of course. I'd also give Elwood Rapid for his Normal Sight. Who else would bother to take in trivial details while driving through the interior of a shopping mall? "New Oldsmobiles are out early this year."
  23. Let's say you have a VPP of 5 points. The Control Cost starts at 2 points. Throw on a bunch of Limitations appropriate to the VPP. Shouldn't the Control Cost be at least 1? It can't drop to 0, can it? I ask because in Hero Designer, that's exactly what it does. Witness: Cost Power END 5 Variable Power Pool, 5 base + 0 control cost, (7 Active Points); all slots Extra Time (1 Turn (Post-Segment 12), -1 1/4), Increased Endurance Cost (x2 END; -1/2), Concentration (1/2 DCV; -1/4), Incantations (-1/4), Limited Class Of Powers Available Slightly Limited (-1/4) Powers Cost: 5 Is this correct? Shouldn't it cost 6 instead of 5?
