Yeah I built the metallic wings my vigilante Shrike uses as resistant defenses with restrainable, only vs attacks she's aware of, lockout on flight, and directional (cannot protect from AE, only in directions wings are covering).

Yes, apparently the movie opens with Diana Prince and Barbara Minerva playing high stakes poker and Diana somehow losing despite having four aces.

The rest of the movie is a chase scene with music scored by whoever did Bennie Hill.

Hyper-Man reacted to Lord Liaden in Hero Games former website freebies
Up until a few years ago, the Hero Games website hosted a wide variety of book excerpts, supplements, and game aids for free download. However, with the most recent website upgrade, most of those items were considered not resource cost-effective to maintain, and were discarded. As a result most new Hero gamers are unaware they ever existed; and even some of the veterans may have missed the treasures they contained, or have since lost something from the collection they once had.

However, thanks to the magnificent Internet Archive Wayback Machine, virtually all those items are still obtainable if one knows where to look and what to look for. But since many people don't know, I thought it would be helpful to provide links to representative archived pages.

These downloads cover many areas: maps (from published books or supplementary), book excerpts and introductions (including supplementary info about the published official settings), wallpapers, color covers to PDF books, character sheets and hex maps, items cut from books for space (including supplementary forms mentioned in various books), adventure modules, character outlines for illustrations (under "Character Sheets and Hex Maps" for some reason), illos for cardboard mini figures, apps and utilities, graphics and sounds, and more. Many of these were generously created by Hero fans.

Because the website has gone through several revisions over the years since DOJ bought the Champions IP, and each version has made changes to the downloads it hosted, I'm including links to Free Stuff pages from different years to cover as many of the varied offerings as possible.

NOTE: Sometimes a file linked to on one of those pages would not actually have been saved on the particular day that page was crawled by Internet Archive. At the top of each page you'll see a graphic representing how many times the page was crawled on various dates. Clicking on that to get to another date will bring up another page, on which the item you want may have been saved.

I recommend exploring. There's much there to enjoy.

For things like this, I like to use a Multipower with a few broadly defined slots.  I'm presuming Captain Chaos is a villain who is designed to take on a group of heroes.  Give him a good Speed advantage and you can fake what you need most of the time.   So let's assume you've got a 12D6 game with an average Spd of 5 or 6.

Captain Chaos' Chaotic Random Ray Gun
    Multipower  105 pt multipower
--16D6 Mind Control (only to cause random power activation), telepathic
--Missile Deflection at range + Reflection
--10D6 Minor Transform to person whose powers are malfunctioning
--12D6 EB, variable special effect, indirect (comes from opponent)
--6D6 Entangle, variable special effect, indirect
--16D6 Suppress vs any one power

Now give Captain Chaos a 9 Speed so that he can take more actions than the people he's fighting.  Their powers can activate on phases that they don't have (i.e., when he goes with a 9 Spd).  There might be somebody somewhere with a power that he can't cause to activate accidentally (Robot Guy has 30 Mental Defense and 30 Power Defense, doesn't use ranged attacks, and has Desolidification-based powers).  But you adjust Captain Chaos' powers to account for whatever the PCs have.

Personally, I'd stick with the high characteristics, and maybe Regeneration.

    Simpler.

Regeneration is a bit problematic, in that writing it on your character sheet is a direct invitation to the GM to do Body to your character. Just buying up the character's Body might not trigger that effect.

If you buy Regen and you don't take Body, you've wasted the points. The GM will make sure you haven't.

If I were to get into semantics about swords in a game, the long straight blade would add a bit against opponents susceptible to Piercing (stabs), and the curved blades against opponents that slashing attacks worked better against.

Otherwise the difference always seems to come down to a bunch of dudes yelling "Katana!" "Longsword!" ala Daffy & Bugs deciding who gets hunted....

Wow, so I'm hearing a lot of passion here for the inclusion of the H.E.R.O. tool in its current form, and that's great but as is common, there are reasons as to how things come to be.  Essentially, I'm not a graphic artist and when I started this project I reached out to the publishers and asked for permission to use their branding including the logo for the app.  They were cool with this as long as I wasn't turning a profit off of the backs of the HERO System contributors, and this aligned nicely with my own ambitions for the project.  That's why the app looks the way it does and is branded the way it is...I'm a terrible artist and publishers are kind

I love this game and want to add value to the current ecosystem by providing tools and services for free to my fellow HERO-philes.  I want more people to play this game and fall in love with it like I and many of us have - lets be honest, this community's size pales in comparison to the 800lb dungeon crawling gorilla.  I want to help change that.  To that end my app is free to use, ad free, and respects the users privacy, and will remain that way.

I'm telling you all this because I want to make my own intentions crystal clear.

Now, to answer why I didn't do 6e random characters at launch.  Primarily, it's because the Champions Character Card kickstarter went live when I was developing this tool.  If I were to include a random 6e character generator I would run the risk of directly countering my express goal of not harming this community or company.  The reality is that this is a business and DoJ needs to make money, and the inclusion of a random 6e character tool in my app undermines the bottom line for DoJ.  Secondly, Cassandra's excellent work was 5e originally, as we all understand...no need to rehash that.

In summation, I will make the wording clarifications on Google Play and the app store because I think you're on point with people potentially being confused about what 5e vs 5th edition HERO means.  I will not be adding in a random 6e character generator though for the reasons I outline above.  The only thing that would change my position would be a request from the publishers themselves.

Is the obsession with Change Environment due to its name?  Folks used to have similar issue with the Force Field and Force Wall powers until 6e changed their names to Resistant Defense and Barrier. While HERO's power names have always been pretty good placeholders for finding power descriptions, the names themselves shoud never take the place of the actual description or mechanics. Assigning a sfx based mechanic based on a placeholder's implied sfx is counter to how HERO was designed.

Hyperman I’m not against using CE for however I believe that even in 6th, Images is the only legal way to build light. Also I am in agreement with you that if you want to use the Light spell to be attached against a target (like a monster) then mobile or UAA is the way to go. “I cast my light spell on that ogre so everyone can see (target) him”.  But if we’re only looking at using your staff to cast light, like Gandalf in LotR movies, then No Range is fine plus OIF for staff.

Quickly, it’s not so much building Light is the issue is that according to the spell it has in Hero terms several different applications. In DND terms it can do x,y & z whereas in Hero terms you probably should buy x,y & z. That and the term attach has more of a gradual meaning in Hero.

Even if what you are trying was legal the active cost should be much much higher because natural darkness would also be inherent and have a massive area of effect. The real problem though is WHO to target per the quote above. and remember dispel is all or nothing.

I would probably try a Nemesis Kid theme (from Legion of Superheroes). Kind of the antithesis of the Parasite or Rogue. He can always have just the right powers to defeat one opponent.

I'm not sure you can use Dispel to dispel any natural occurring darkness (or any other natural occurring condition). I believe Dispel can only be used against other game ruled power effects, so it can be used against the Darkness power, but not against the normal darkness of a cave or night sky. I believe to effect natural conditions you have to use either Change Environment, Transform, or the like. But I might be wrong.

EDIT: I found the relevant ruling in the 6th Ed book...

To use Dispel, the character must declare what power or ability he’s trying to Dispel, then make
an Attack Roll. If he succeeds, he rolls and totals the Dispel dice and subtracts the target’s Power
Defense (if any). If the remaining total exceeds the Active Point total of the target power, the target
power is Dispelled — that is, it stops working.Dispel is an all or nothing attack: it either
completely turns off a Power or it has no effect.

    And...

A character with Dispel can turn off another character’s power.

So that seems pretty definitive that it can not be used against any natural or normal conditions, only against Powers that an other character or object has.

here are some examples of official builds in the Equipment Guide. You need to use either Usable As Attack or Mobile Perception Point to have your Foci work from a distance. Examples below (only including relevant descriptions):

Tracking Bug (but could be swapped out for a Light spell):

    Images to Radio Group, +4
to PER Rolls, Area Of Effect (64m Radius; +1¼),
Usable As Attack (allows character to “stick” the
Image to a target; +1¼), (76 Active Points); IAF (-½)

In this case the Foci (bug) doesn't need Mobile, it moves with the target it is "stuck" too.

Ultraviolet Tracking Spray (but could be swapped out for a Light spell or glow (and in this case the Foci is the spray can)):

    Images to Ultraviolet Perception,
+4 to PER Rolls, Usable As Attack (allows
character to “stick” the Image to a target; +1¼),
Continuing Charge lasting 1 Week (stops functioning
if target washes himself and his clothes
thoroughly; +½) (60 Active Points); OAF

Or Wireless Bug (undercover cop option):

    OAF (-1), No Range (character
must place bug at perception point before he can
use the power; -½) with "it transmits voices and noises in the
wearer’s vicinity to a nearby receiver. To the
Standard Audio Bug, add Mobile Perception Point."

Which shows that even if you place or give the foci to anyone else, you need to add the Mobile Perception point to the focus to have it keep working.

And to get back to more on topic, here is the Create Light (and give to someone else) spell in the 6th Edition spell book:

Sight Group Images, +2 to PER Rolls, Area Of Effect (4m Radius; +¼),
Usable As Attack (to “stick” light to defined object; +1¼), Reduced Endurance (0 END; +½),
Persistent (+¼) (52 Active Points); OAF (a wand of ivory; -1), Concentration (½ DCV throughout
casting; -½), Extra Time (5 Minutes to cast; -1), Gestures (throughout casting; -½), Incantations
(throughout casting; -½), Only To Attach Light To A Specified Nonliving Object (see text; -½), Only
To Create Light (-1), Requires A Magic Roll (-½), Time Limit (duration of 1 Month; -¼). Total cost:
    8 points.

In this instance the "Specified non-living object" is not a foci for some reason, but it also doesn't need Mobile or any other similar limitation. Once it is UAA it is considered to be mobile for "free" going where the non-living object it is attached to goes, no matter who is using it.

This project is an extension of an export template I wrote a few months ago.  I had so much fun writing that template that I decided to develop a full app.

    Features
Import characters from Hero Designer using this export template Characteristics and Skills may be long pressed and a check will be made Dice rolling tools (3d6, Hit, Damage, and Free Form)  The H.E.R.O. tool generates random 250 point 5e supers (shout out to Cassandra for allowing me to use her original idea) Track statistics about your die rolls, including average values, distribution, total stun etc.
This is still very much a work in progress and I have plans to add more features as time goes on.  For now though I feel that it’s mature enough to release to the general public.
