  1. Re: Arcane Detective Byron Harte Which is only 5 AP more than the current attack, but it would reduce the character's damage dealing vs non supernatural beings, which I think makes more sense than the guy whaling away on normal folk for 14d6 damage.
  2. Re: New players welcome This was the point of my question- I am interested in giving it a try and wondering if I would meet the "proper criterion" for the proposed game.
  3. Re: How To Build: Split Personality character
  4. Re: Confused a bit on mental attacks, do people know? Actually he was referring to the fact that in 5th and (I believe) 4th Edition as well, with a roll of Ego+20 effect you could make the effect of the power undetectable to the target. I understand that you only use 6th ed and filter your responses through that lense but unless someone specifies that they discussing 6th rules, please don't take for granted that they are.
  5. Re: Arcane Detective Byron Harte Between the Str 30, the Fast or Mar Strike, and the Enchanted Brass Knuckles, you're looking at a 14d6 Hand Attack for a non building-tipper type. Maybe a +2d6 Hand Attack at 0 End cost and the Penetrating advantage on upto a 10d6 hand attack, only vs supernatural creatures/beings? Makes him quite effective vs normal folk but truly dangerous against the denizens of the supernatural world.
  6. Re: Confused a bit on mental attacks, do people know? Could always add additional dice to the power for "only to make the power undetectable effect" if your GM will allow this, since you would proably need enough extra dice of the limited power to put you over normal AP caps for a game- remember to apply the Must Achieve Ego +20 roll/make power undetectable (- 3/4) limitations.
  7. Re: New players welcome How about if we've gamed before, have played Champions before, but have no groups in our area to game with and have not yet tried Hero Central?

  9. Re: When, if ever, would your character kill? Cannot remember having a character ever kill anyone but I did have one that was an interesting case study in nature vs nurture in that regard (sort of). His name was Hairtrigger- he was an amnesiac who appeared to be in his late teens and who was attending a school for teen supers. He had a lot of skills he was unaware of until they were needed (such as fluency in Spanish), a flair for fashion design, and a dark (initially unknown) past that brought a whole lot of angst. Upon recieving his school entry medical, it is discovered that in addition to the nannite laced arms that can turn into nearly any weapon he could concieve of, he was also a mutant who had been genetically manipulated- his powers originally would have been of a healing nature, the ability to diagnose any disease/injury/condition of a person by sight and determine the best possible way to heal the person in question (medically- no healing powers). However, that power was altered to become the ability to sense any flaws/weaknesses/vulnerbilities of the target so that his arms would become the most effective weapon possible against that target, and his eyesight became super-accurate gunsight vision. The fun of this particular character was that he knew he had done horrible things, but not what- he was certain he had killed in his past and swore never to kill another human (total CVK vs humans). But he also had hardwired "ambush/adrenaline" reflexes that would kick in when surprised, angered, etc. This was modeled as an Accidental Change effect on his weapon pool arms that would shift them into a lethal "default mode" on a failed roll and attack the source of the stimulus that caused the change. Well, in a school full of teens with powers there were many close calls, and on more than one case his penchant for using nonlethal attacks on classmates that annoyed him got him into serious trouble. When it came to adventuring, most of the time he ended up using nonlethal attacks of various sorts- he only ever really ramped up to the killing attacks on the occasions they faced monsters, alien bugs, etc. and at these times he was litterally the death machine that kept the rest of the team alive vs horrific odds/attackers.
  10. Re: Physical Strength that affects the whole object... Just went back and re-read the 5th ed description- had been under impression that AOE FF would protect others- guess you could always do this: 20 rPD Forcefield, Protects carried items (+10 pt Adder), 0 End cost (+1/2); Linked to Str (-1/2), Only Protects Carried items (-1/2), Only to Protect lifted/carried items from crumbling/collapsing (-1) 45 Active Points/15 Real Cost
  11. Re: Physical Strength that affects the whole object... Structural Reinforcement: 20rPD Forcefield at 0 End cost (+1/2) AE:Line (180"long x 16" wide, +2 1/4); Linked to Str (-1/2), Only to keep lifted objects from crumbling (-1) 75 Active Points/30 Real Cost- you could place into a larger Brick tricks MP/VPP and even tack on a additional Requires Skill Roll lim on for 25 Real Cost BTW: Baed this on the Baxter Building, which was 840 ft tall and I figure at least 65 ft across at base, although this build allows for upto 1170 ft tall and 104 ft across.
  12. Re: Casual STR and Grab
  13. Re: Casual STR and Grab
  14. Re: Casual STR and Grab Well, that is not the case- check APG page 168, where it outlines the Grab and Block Maneuver- grab an opponent and at any time while they are held you may use them to block an incoming attack.
  15. Re: Casual STR and Grab Anyone have 5th or 6th ed Martial Arts book- Grappling Block Maneuver seems to cover what you are asking about, at least to my mind.
  16. Re: Physical Strength that affects the whole object... I've always kinda liked the idea of a naked Indirect advantage (+1/2) on strength, allowing the character to apply their strength evenly across the whole object, thus keeping it in one piece, or to focus all of their strength into one point on an object without affecting the whole.

    Sniper

Re: Sniper Except the Transform power is NOT intended to duplicate other (already existent) powers, it is intended to model effects that are not possible with other powers. And as mentioned, Transform is used directly as an example of being forbidden to be used as a stand-in for KA for an instant-kill attack.

    Sniper

Re: Sniper This effect is SPECIFICALLY outlawed on page 240 of 5th Ed Revised- in another thread you also suggested using Transform to mimic the effects of Xdimensional Movement Usable as Attack- why come up with a convulated (and inefficient) construct to model something already easily covered by existing powers?
  19. Re: Nazi Dog Troopers Nazi Mind Flayer is something I would love to see Storn illustrate

    Sniper

Re: Sniper One clarifying point- normal PD does not affect Body damage done by Killing Attacks unless target also has resistant added to his PD. 60 active point total on attacks? 4d6 Rka, limit to flavor and then ranged combat levels bought through OAF (Scope, -1) as 2 Skill levels can be used to add +1 Body to an attack w/o affecting the AP of the attack.
  21. Re: Mathematics based mental attacks? Well, you could have a Ego Attack based on literally loading Pi to 1 Million spaces into the brain within a second, causing neural overload- you could even call it his Pi Blast
  22. Re: Comic Books Characters 250 Points 5th Edition I've never understood the need to shoehorn an incredibly powerful character from comics into a rediculously low point build, requiring illegal builds or grossly undepowering the character in question- just make a proper version of the character based on their actual abilities and don't worry about the points- most of the good ones have 30+ years of experience anyways
  23. Re: Spring Heel Jack For Immunities you only need 2: All Terrestrial Bio-agents and Diseases/All Terrestrial Chemical Agents- 20 pts (5th)/10pts (6th), you are essentially WAY overpaying for your life support.

    Antaeus

Re: Antaeus Well, technically he isn't ALWAYS 12+ ft tall, so just do it as Growth at 0 End cost, only in contact with the ground. Oops, plus extra Pre, only in contact with ground- call it Imposing Presence or whatnot.

    Sniper

Re: Sniper Well, the compound power ~should~ add to the range, as in 5th the range is Active Points x 5" Also, the Headshot! has a lesser focus limitation because the extra damage can be added onto any appropriate rifle the character picks up- it is a level of skill that adds to the damage of another base attack, it is not linked to one weapon and therefore harder to deprive the chracter of the power (hence lesser limitation)
