  1. Re: Second Best Game System ? Yeah, I guess that's the reason. I'm not really that into narrative RPGs, so much as ones that are more split along the Simulationist-Gamist axis, to use the GNS theory. Mostly, because I think a good story can be told without a narrativist system, but without the other two, the game feels very hollow.
  2. Re: "Neat" Pictures I wonder if they added Black and White lantern Symbols by the time Blackest Night and Brightest day came.

  4. Re: Second Best Game System ? One guy in my gaming group has the Cortex system rulebook. He's never played it, so I can't get a complete feel for the game, but, based on Cap's character sheet, it seems to be Cortex derived, not Cortex itself. I can see some of the pros of the system, but I wouldn't want to play it. It just seems... off. I don't exactly know how to describe it, but it doesn't have the je ne sais quoi of systems like d20, or HERO.
  5. Re: From Superfriends to Watchmen: The Extremes of Superheroes My heroes are good people, but they are people, and come with all the problems and humanity of that. They're not going to be paragons of humanity or anything, but they're not going to be psychotic (well, not usually) or creeps. I rarely have my supers kill, even if the campaign is darker, but that doesn't mean they'll pull their punches when they need to put their enemies down.
  6. Re: Your "2012" Pet Gaming Projects Write up my Fantasy Hero Campaign Setting, and possibly add the Victorian Fantasy and Urban Fantasy supplements to the setting.
  7. Re: Realistic Monetary Systems in FH Are you sure on those values? Because according to several conversion charts I've seen, a Pound sterling was worth about $5 in the early 1800s, which, with inflation corresponds to about $63.25 in modern dollars, which means a penny is worth about 26 cents. Or is this going by the modern price of those coins?
  8. Re: HERO Dice App for Android - know one? Heck, if it can help offset some of the costs to DOJ, I don't mind it. Does make me have to remember to examine the links before I click them, though.
  9. Re: Golden Age Comics on DVD...The Big Red Cheese! I might have to pick this up. As much as I like the dead tree format, these DVD collections are pretty economical. I remember Marvel had a couple of these DVD collections for silver-age onward, but I think they were much more expensive.

  13. Re: It's the Little Things.... Seems pretty appropriate (though, if it were in a campaign where ammunition was hard to come by, I wouldn't necessarily allow it), and I may have to steal that. One of mine, which I haven't fully checked for legality: Skeleton Key: Teleport 1m, AoE (2m Radius, +1/4), Usable Simultaniously (+1/2), Constant (+1/2), x2 Mass, Gate (-1/2), Gate must be on either side of a door (-1), OAF (-1) [13 Active points; 4 real cost] For the barely more than the cost of the Lockpicking skill, you can lockpick any door with 100% effectiveness, even if the lock cannot naturally be picked, like a magic lock.
  14. Re: Robocop vs Terminator This Terminator ? Robocop. The T-1's neck is not protected well enough, and one good shot would put it out of commission.
  15. Master Polymath: /!\ or [stop] Cost: 9 points or 14 points A character with this Talent is adept at everything they try. They can even attempt multiple skills at one time, untrained: they may choose skills whose total cost is up to 6 (for the 9 point talent) or 9 (for the 14 point talent). A polymath must still take a phase to "get his head in gear" for a specific task. Multiple instances of a single task do not require this phase; for example, picking several locks in a row only requires one extra phase. At the GM's digression, these skills may also include Skill levels (including CSLs or PSLs) or Martial Arts. Built as: VPP 6+6 Control cost, No Skill Roll Required (+1), Only Skills (-1) [18 Active points; 9 real cost] or VPP 9+9 Control cost, No Skill Roll Required (+1), Only Skills (-1) [28 Active Points; 14 real cost] Is there anything, aside from its inherent munchkinisms (already represented as the /!\ or [stop]), does this look alright?
  16. Re: Realistic Monetary Systems in FH True, but the french came close. As did the Romans. Spanish was a bit different, but still had something akin (8 peso = 1 real; 20 reals = 1 dubloon, I think, with various other subdivisions as it got used more for trans-Atlantic trading) There were a couple other ones not quite so complex, but still a bit. Besides, most of the british coins weren't used all that often. Especially the Guinea, but the Half-crown, also didn't really get much use.
  17. I've been thinking about something for a campaign setting I'm working on, and I was wondering if anyone has played in a game with a "realistic" monetary system? By that I mean 12 copper = 1 silver, 20 silver = 1 gold, like the pre-decimal Pound Sterling, the French Franc and Livre (which as far as I can tell, was worth exactly the same), the Roman Currency system, and some others, I can't remember. But yeah. I think I like the system in abstract, but I feel it could be difficult to keep up with, compared to the simplicity of the decimal system.
  18. Re: 6ed Transfer: Is It Just More Than An Aid Linked To Drain? This... was not my argument one bit. I actually agree with you on keeping the drain and aid values equal, but I was merely shooting down your reasoning. I was never arguing that abilities are exponential. That was the point of my argument actually. I was saying that "the conservation of Power Points" was a flawed concept, since they represented something that wasn't linear, so the linear transfer wouldn't hold true to this conservation. In addition, I disagree with making transfer an Advantage. If you already have the tools to make the ability you want, why invent something new to do the same thing? If someone came up to me with something like that, I'd be way too concerned at how it could be munchkined, since that's the first thing that comes to my head. And the reason Drain is more expensive, is that you can incapacitate someone with drain, whereas aid is a Buff, which can make it easier to win a fight, but will not win it for you. Lastly, I'm not sure why you're bringing up the (also inherently unlikely) situation of draining 3 and aiding 18. Making both the same roll has nothing to do with how much variation there can be in the drain. There is just as much likelihood that someone will Drain 18 with the same or separate Drain and Aid rolls.
  19. Re: Club Weapon at range? I know heroic characters can have a multipower, but the whole point was that that would cost just as much as buying the gun not as equipment. However, on second glance, I see what he was suggesting, and, that may work. And, isn't pulling your punch meant more for normal Stun attacks against normals, so you don't kill someone with super-strength? And rubber Bullets aren't really an option, since it's Victorian hero (well, not exactly, but for all intents and purposes, for this thread, it is). I do like the idea of costing it as if it were in a multi-power, though. I think I may have to use that.
  20. Re: Club Weapon at range? 6e Heroic, and I think you misunderstand my question. "Club Weapon" is an optional combat maneuver (I think it also existed in 5e), meant to symbolize Hitting someone with the hilt of a sword, or the flat of the blade, or (if the GM allows) hitting them with the butt of the gun. It basically turns the DC of a killing attack into STUN damage. I can't have it be a multipower, since it's Heroic, and the option I had above is too expensive

  22. Re: Pirate Hero I want to have a Pirate Hero game. I'd Buy up PS: Evade SOPA to 17-... wait... wrong pirates...
  23. Re: 6ed Transfer: Is It Just More Than An Aid Linked To Drain? By the RAW, you'd have to roll the Drain/Aid separately, but if I were GM, I'd just say one roll counts for both assuming both had the same number of dice. Even if they had different numbers of dice, I'd roll the smaller number first, then roll the difference, and add it.
