  1. Re: What happens in Vegas... Methinks Morningstar doesn't know the meaning of ironic.
  2. Re: What happens in Vegas... No he wasn't. What you've conveniently left out was the qualifying first sentence and the second sentence which gives new information. What you're changing is that this is his "duty" and that he's not a volunteer (which 99% of superheroes are).
  3. Re: What does it mean to be a hero?
  4. What does it mean to be a hero? Wow. A lot of these responses are very vindictive and petty. Is this what gaming has come to? Is Captain Zapper really so horrible if he's not at your beck and call while on a trip to Las Vegas? Is this how a "super" hero responds? On the flip side, how can you blame Captain Zapper? How many t.v. show episodes have there been where "the beast with two backs" was interrupted by a phone call which either ruined the relationship or ended up being the last time they saw each other alive? Would you really stop or want your partner to stop bumping uglies because the phone rang? Maybe he did the decent thing and turned the phone off before he started. Don't be jealous because he has more stamina than you.
  5. Re: S.H.A.R.D. - Super Hero Acronym Resource Directory Is this a Canadian organization? You inspire me: TARFU - Training Armed Response Fighting Units.
  6. Re: WWYCD: My Good Enemy Juggernaut: Firewing most likey. Strangely enough, Foxbat comes in a close second, though. Duo: N/A Juggernaut: If he'd reformed? Quite possibly. Both men are passionate. Duo: Lust? Yes. Really, this is GM's area, but for "possible reasons"... Juggernaut: If it's an alternate Earth organization, then chances are the true parent is really Dreadnought, a super strong female who dresses skanky and is very sexually charged. Duo: He's just a freshman in high school! Juggernaut: Try to go after them. Even if the kid isn't hers, alien abduction is still illegal! Duo: Therapy. Or if the youngster's mom is "hot," he has to go tell his friends. See above.
  7. Re: CHAR: Sparky! Very nice! I don't know how I would have responded had you submitted Sparky instead of you-know-who.
  8. Re: What happens in Vegas... Juggernaut - Realizes that everyone can't be a hero 24/7. Since making quick work of the hoodlums (and being overconfident to boot), she wouldn't think "Captain Zapper" was needed to begin with. He can finish what he's doing. Duo - would use his N-Ray vision to watch what's going on. Then again, he's just 14, so he might not be there to begin with.
  9. Re: Any interest in a Zodiac villain group? I've actually already introduced the Zodiac into my campaign. Taurus told the PCs that their purpose was to ensure that no one came to rule the world A) that wasn't born on Earth, and 2) without the world's blessing. The Zodiac assisted the PCs in pushing V'han's invasion out of the system. My Zodiac does have a lot more in the way of perks, though. Very nice. I'd rep you for this, but you have too much already. Well, that and I have to spread it around again. Consider me to use this similar to your Birth of RAVEN. I'll modify some to tailor it to my campaign.
  10. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group...
  11. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... That's a classic. On the verge of priceless. I hate to be the grumpy old man, but do we have any non CoC quotes? Too many of the same spoil the bunch. Anyone with a quote on a super being a hero? A player with a spoonerism? Anyone? Anyone? Beuller?
  12. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Our heroes are in an undersea dome rescuing an NPC from villainous evildoers. They are split into two different entrances, and one team hears weapon fire coming from the other side of their hatch. Dr. Impossible: Sounded like shots fired. The time for subtlety may well be past. Jiggawatt: (nods to Dr. I) Ya, I hear it too. Ve need to gate in und now. Jiggawatt rolls 12 dice to open the hatch. 12D6: 2, 3, 2, 4, 5, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 1, 6 (53 STUN, 17 BODY) Dr. Impossible: (OOC: 6 6's on 12d6?!?! Mein Gott!! He's using GM Dice! ) Dr. Impossible is visibly startled by the terrifyingly powerful blast of energy provided by the Seventy-Thousand Watt Superhero. Jiggawatt: (OOC: It must be the humidity. We are under water after all.)
  13. Re: Golden Age Resources: Superweapons of WW II Both Japan and Germany were working on atomic bombs. Japan had two submarines designed to carry aircraft (one carried two, the other five, I believe) to attack the Panama Canal. England had plans for Habakkuk, a feasible aircraft carrier made from an iceberg (price and range made it very limited, however). The U.S. came somewhat close to using bats with incendiary devices against the Japanese homeland.

  15. Re: S.H.A.R.D. - Super Hero Acronym Resource Directory [Emphasis mine] OK, PARADIGM I understand, but PARADIGN? And what did you mean by Abtuse? Obtuse? or Abuse/Abusive? Sorry to seem picky on a silly thread. (But at least you know I read yours instead of just skipping over it!) Spell Checker Helps Our Online Loyalists

  17. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Well' date=' let's say he has reformed his [i']criminal[/i] ways. His skirt-chasing ways, not so much. (I mean, the guy has a date set up with a police lady and he hits on Sapphire, too. )
  18. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... From my online League of Champions game: Sapphire is the only NPC here. Six PCs from the previous "who could we possibly question" quote, have returned to Homestead (along with Sapphire) after questioning the criminals in a PRIMUS holding facility. Comic Book Coincidently, three PCs from San Francisco (one being Cheshire Cat - reformed, sort of) have traveled to Millennium City to ask about info on PSI. Cheshire Cat: Hey gorgeous; Long time, no see. In case you didn't hear, I'm a card carrying good guy now... just want to apologize for that time I replaced the pictures in the museum of modern art with the photoshopped pictures of you I got on the internet... err... you didn't know that was me did you... err... well, never mind that. Let's just let bygones be bygones. Now that I'm a good guy, how about we hit the town and paint it red? Sapphire: Witchcraft has been captured by DEMON. Jiggawatt: (To CC) Maybe not der bezt time vor dee flirtations.
  19. Re: "Sorry m'am, you'll have to check your hand grenades." Unless the plane ride is important to the plot, I just do the "comic book page turn" and the PCs go from being in one city (such as San Francisco) to another (such as Millennium City). But then, I'm running a four color campaign, so some things that don't matter to the story get overlooked for ease of play. If I were playing a grittier tone campaign and one that was face to face as opposed to online, I might bother. But, for me, wasting time in an online game about "how are you hiding your equipment" and "exactly where are you changing into costume" can really slow down an already slow process.
  20. Re: Most Obscure Reference You've Ever Worked Into a Game I haven't read through all of these, but here go four that I have done: One PC was hunting a bond jumper named Gene. When she tracked him down, turned out he had a look-alike brother named Rod. Later, it was mentioned in passing that they were triplets: Gene, Rod, and Berry. First big scenario in my online campaign had a V'han invasion. Various places around the world were under attack and there was a huge mothership in space launching shuttles for the attack. As GM, I try to nudge the players towards a local attack (the only one in the U.S.) at Stanley Air Force Base. They go after the mothership instead. Most recently, the PCs are clueless about finding out who is chasing Witchcraft, despite DEMON agents attacking Homestead while three super villains are simultaneously attacking the mall for no apparent reason (the story is here) so I give a "suggestion" from an NPC named Georgia Marshall. No one listens to her. Finally, and this may be very obscure, but I title a post OIGMPD and using NPCs recap what's been happening and explain how the PCs can find their answers. They're oblivious until their "answers" leave the scene. I call these obscure because no one ever picked up the reference until I pointed them out later.
  21. Apparently HERO boards liked this quote. I received six automated email notifications about it!
  22. Re: S.H.A.R.D. - Super Hero Acronym Resource Directory I always thought a shard was a fart with a surprise in it. Anyway, as to the topic, WASP - We Are So Powerful COIL - Caiman Overlords (Invisible Legion) - The Caiman Overlords were a street gang that were a recruiting source for COIL. The "Invisible Legion" was sort of their war cry because they didn't act like typical street gangs. It took a little time before the PCs/Players put "Caiman Overlord Invisible Legion" together to track down COIL; however, when they did, they got a beating worthy of COIL.
  23. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Now, if he had said "...also, he is a well-endowed Minotaur," that would have been even funnier with the name.
  24. Re: From little plot seeds, mighty games do grow: Share your ideas! Bump
  25. Re: Let's make a superhero base auditions (Topside description) OK,it helps to read everything twice, including the title. I don't know why I was thinking you wanted above and below ground description. I have two basic ideas, since the base is above a golden age base. Both of them involve the upper level being three stories and being on large manor grounds. There are two reasons for this: 1) It keeps pesky people from simply peeking out their windows at you and gives an elegant look; and 2) when the inevitable attack on the base comes, nearby buildings won't be close enough for property damage. Idea #1: Make it look classically ancient. Give the building the same architectural style that Washington, D.C. has. White, polished, marble columns always look dignified and professional. Classical statues could be here and there. Idea #2: Make it a Victorian-style house. Walk around patio, blaconies, etc. This gives the base a more homely feel and offers up a warm reception. For both ideas, the ground floor is for all visitors and guests. The upper floors are living/guest quarters as well as potential exercise rooms and such (Homestead is actually a good example for this).
