Also, people will buy a product just to help a cause they believe in. It happens all the time.

the event was specifically timed to interfere with the counting of the electoral votes. It had one and only one purpose - namely to try to derail the process of certifying the 2020 presidential election.

Outside of deliberately targeting the lives of the President Elect and Vice President Elect, I don't see how more clearly you can try to attempt a coup against a government that has yet to take the reins of power.

It hardly has to be organized down to the boots on the ground to count as a coup attempt, and in fact such attempts rarely are organized to that degree.  An armed mob was incited to disrupt the certification of the electoral college vote, the Capitol Police let it happen, and Trump refused to authorize assistance by the National Guard.  This is exactly how coups proceed in other countries like Mali and Montenegro, only with a thin veneer of plausible deniability.

In addition, it's critical that this be treated as a coup attempt regardless.  Otherwise the next, real, coup attempt will look just like it.

This is why it's a good idea for the GM to establish some benchmarks so players can build characters that fit into the game world in the places they are supposed to.

If you envision your character to be an agility based fighter, you need to know how much CV is enough to play that role. If you want to build a damage sponge, you need to know how much DEF is enough.

Without campaign specific benchmarks, how will you know?

I disagree. You can make blanket statements about the scope of work of another person without having done the same work. Everybody on the streets around the world is doing exactly that.

The council of Minneapolis has expressed  the intent to explore the dissolution of the MPD entirely.

Police all over the country have had countless opportunities to address the problems and universally they all close ranks, resist reform, refuse oversight and ignore any challenges to their monopoly of force. Police aren't part of the solution, they're core to the problem. The solution of Minneapolis might be some portion of a national solution. The structural problem won't go away without a large scale fix. They'll never accept incremental reform and they'll always just go back to their old ways once the heat is off.

What I have heard is that evil won't be a defining attribute of certain races.

Brilliant post, sir, but I wanted to address this one point.  The problem isn't that mistakes happen, or that one person is an asshole.  The problem is that in too many PDs, the asshole is protected by the system and even encouraged to continue his asshole ways.  His fellow officers will plant evidence on the victim, lie about what happened, cover up the asshole's crimes, and go after anyone who records or blows the whistle on the asshole.  The prosecutors will deliberately fumble the case against the asshole, if charges are even brought.  The police union will write protections for the asshole into the union contract.  And now everyone in the PD is a bad cop, save the occasional Serpicos who are tolerated at best and doomed to termination or death at worst.

In the last two weeks we've seen one PD stage a "blue flu" to protest the arrest of a cop who shot a taser-armed drunk in the back, and we've seen another PD division resign in protest after one of their number was disciplined for shoving an old man and inflicting a TBI.  This is not a one-person-is-an-asshole problem.

A black man resists being taken into police custody and is fatally shot in the back while fleeing the police. I don't know what he did to attract the attention of the police, but given their track record of treatment of black men in their custody, I don't exactly blame him for running.
