  17. Re: The cranky thread I was getting better -- I really was. A day and a half after coming home sick from heat exposure (120F heat index yesterday), I was just about to eat dinner when the power went out -- yeah, we're having another freaking lightning storm. It's after dark, and it's raining, but it's still hotter than f**K-all outside, so my place started getting hot really fast, and that didn't help one bit. Power's back on now (obviously, or I wouldn't be able to post here) and I've got the A/C cranked up high. Maybe I can get back to work tomorrow....
  18. Re: Star Hero Command I went with a variation on this: genetically altered humans went to the stars alongside the 'base-line' stock, although in greater numbers. Some of them have their own cultures, while some colonies have strongly integrated cultures with multiple types of humans. I also wrote up a number of truly alien species which were so different from humans they aren't playable as PC's. Adventures involving one or more of these are always interesting, challenging, and most of all, weird.

  20. Re: +1 DC only with Haymaker All true, and as far as those types of CSL are concerned, I agree with you. It becomes an issue when the character has Rapid attack with the HTH only limitation, or Weapon Master defined to work with All Hand-to-Hand Killing Attacks, etc. -- then they want to apply it to a Ranged HKA. I haven't even seen this kind of pretzel logic used in other game systems, because HERO is the only system I know of that builds thrown weapons this way. In any other game system, (or in "real life" for that matter) a thrown weapon is a ranged attack by definition, and nobody with half a brain would argue otherwise. Edited to add: Not that I'm "bashing" HERO. It's flexible enough to avoid this issue by building thrown weapons as STR-based ranged attacks instead of "ranged hand weapons", which works just as well for my purposes.
