Re: The cranky thread
Had a thunderstorm Saturday night, which kept me awake until the wee small hours. Heard a crash outside early in the morning, thought it was just something the kids had left outside falling over. Got up in the morning to find half the plum tree, which forks at the base, had fallen over. Fortunately, it had only fallen a short way onto an internal fence, and the fence had held so it was basically leaning over. Had it continued on its path, it would have hit the neighbour's roof (their house is close to the fence). Spent my Sunday carefully reducing the fallen part to manageable portions with a handsaw. I had to be careful not to let the part overhanging the neighbour's roof fall the rest of the way, so it a case of supporting the limb as best I could with one hand while sawing with the other, all the time standing on a ladder on uneven ground. Hard work due to the sheer size of the tree, it would be at least 20' tall.
The neighbour didn't know what had happened and had gone out early, although when they did get back home late in the afternoon they were very helpful, taking care of the remaining overhanging portion for me, which I had been uncertain of how to deal with from my side of the fence.
