1. Re: "The Mercury Men" -- Trailer For Upcoming Webseries And if this quote does not scream pulp, I do not know what might: "....Born of our solar system's first planet, the deadly men of Mercury, made of light so dense it has become solid, can emit powerful energy blasts from their hands in the form of lightning. ...." -Carl-
2. Re: "The Mercury Men" -- Trailer For Upcoming Webseries Indeed! And they have what the call "digital props" on that site which are, apparently, free to download pulp-ish in universe stuff....Like the blueprint for the sidearm used, etc. Handy for gaming use! -Carl-
3. So, since I did not find anyone else having posted about this yet I thought I'd share: Looks kind of cool to me, in a "low rent, Saturday Sci Fi show" sort of way! -Carl-
4. While potentially this should also go into the Champions forum as well, I get a more pulp-ish vibe from it so I'm posting it here.....Enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IGmvyWxRlbQ And, speaking of pulp-ish....here's a rather pulp style poster for the film too: -Carl-

As always, the original authors of the character builds should receive all credit...I just link to 'em. -Carl-

Rifts HERO?

Re: Rifts HERO? While I have no idea about the nature of the Rifts creature in question (never played the system....) based on a brief reading of Doctor Agenda's response you might find this a worthwhile base to build off: Pts. Power/Skill/Perk/Talent END 24 Junior: (Total: 50 Active Cost, 24 Real Cost) LS (Immunity: All terrestrial diseases and biowarfare agents; Longevity: 200 Years) (11 Active Points); IIF (Goa'uld Symbiote; -1/4) (Real Cost: 9) plus Healing 1 BODY, Reduced Endurance (0 END; +1/2), Persistent (+1/2) (20 Active Points); Extra Time (Regeneration-Only) 1 Hour (-2 1/4), Self Only (-1/2), IIF (Goa'uld Symbiote; -1/4) (Real Cost: 5) plus +5 STR, Reduced Endurance (0 END; +1/2) (7 Active Points); IIF (Goa'uld Symbiote; -1/4) (Real Cost: 6) plus +6 CON (12 Active Points); IIF (Goa'uld Symbiote; -1/4) (Modifiers affect Base Characteristic) (Real Cost: 4) and: Dependence: Goa'uld Larva - Takes 1d6 Damage (Uncommon, 1 Hour) 15 It's from this page: http://classic-web.archive.org/web/20070315174847/www.starherofandom.com/h_sg2/characters.php and is a build for the symbiote used by the character Teal'c in the TV series Stargate: SG-1 BTW, be careful to only go to the archived version of Starherofandom.Com since the actual site appears to have been compromised by some form of virus. Invincible

Re: Invincible Sorry...I'm coming to this a bit late....You might want to look at this thread: http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php/77450-Any-generic-Viltrumite-character-somewhere?highlight=Invincible+series There is a suggestion in that thread to use a Capt Marvel (the Billy Batson hero, not MarVell) build as a base....That said, here are a couple of versions of that (and a classic 1938 version of Superman and some other possible cores to build on...Please note that NONE of them were built by me...just lovingly shared here....all credit to their original builders) http://killershrike.com/MiscCharacters/Contributions/Hyper-Man/Supers/JLA/The%20Big%20Red%20Cheeze.html http://project250.tripod.com/captainmarvel.html http://surbrook.devermore.net/adaptationscomic/dc/superman.html http://surbrook.devermore.net/bigbrawl/rpg/brick.html http://www.angelfire.com/scifi2/mathew/csjuggernaut.html And maybe, with a fair bit of additions and tweaking: http://www.angelfire.com/scifi2/mathew/panietzschean.html I'll see if I can find anything else and if I do I'll add it later. Looking forward to you possibly posting your version..... -Carl-
11. Re: Ghouls that are not undead creatures Since i didn't see anyone else mention them, you might want to take a look at: http://surbrook.devermore.net/adaptationsbook/nehwon/kreeshkra.html and http://surbrook.devermore.net/adaptationscreatures/fiction/reh/hyboreanghoul.html and perhaps http://surbrook.devermore.net/adaptationscreatures/games/coc/ghoul.html If you use these as bases and then tweak them/combine them/adapt them (such as modifying INT scores, adding inches of running, etc) you could probably come up with something that would fit your preferences. -Carl-

14. http://www.gizmag.com/hoverbike/18813/ Kinda sweet looking, IMNSHO.....I can definitely see a few of my heroes using it..... -Carl-
15. Re: Magnetic Imaging Effects? I had not heard about (or did not recall) the Nikola Tesla connection. Given the nature of the "artifact" in question it could be a nice plot hook. Thanks!.....I know that mercury is electrically conductive and has some other related properties (it's use in "tilt switches" and such). And so I would suspect that it has some level of magnetic reactivity. Of course, aluminum is conductive but non-magnetic.....Hmmmmm. -Carl-
16. I'm in process of considering an artifact build and since it would primarily be operative in the supers portion of my universe(s) I figured I'd ask here.... I am hoping that someone with experience/knowledge of MRI technology would be able to tell me if Mercury in it's metallic state would have any undue reaction(s) to being subjected to an MRI scan.... I know already that other metals are highly reactive in those circumstances. But would there be similar issues if, as an example, a ceramic urn containing (amongst other things) a mass of Mercury roughly the size of a softball were run thru an MRI scan? Thanks. -Carl-
17. Re: Green Lantern Golden Age and Silver Age 250 Points Defiantly sold builds.....I might add some permutation of "Subject To Orders" to Hal's disadvantage list. After all, the Guardians can summon him back to Oa and impose other strictures on him. Such as the time they decided that he was spending too much time on Earth and neglecting the rest of Sector 2814 so they ordered him to spend the next 12 months traveling in space without returning home. YMMV of course. -Carl-
18. Re: Character Name From Old "Golden Age Of Champions" Supplement? Thanks all.... One of the perils of having my gaming collection 4,000 miles away is that sometimes my memory plays tricks. I was definitely thinking of Francis Krill and KnightOwl. I can picture the character artwork with him standing on the rooftop, etc. Again, much thanks for the verifications/clarifications. -Carl-
19. Re: Character Name From Old "Golden Age Of Champions" Supplement?
20. Not sure if anyone recalls the supplement in question (the Firebird Press original version of Golden Age Of Champions) but I am hoping that someone might and might also be able to recall both the secret ID name and the hero moniker for the character that was a watchmaker and fan of ornithology who built himself a winged armored suit.....I can pretty well recall many of the pertinent powers/abilities/etc (Gliding, Armor, etc) but some of the backstory is more.....foggy. And as my copy is currently 4,000 miles away and somewhat buried in storage.....Shrug. Thanks. -Carl-
21. Re: Steampunk - Source Material Since I just came across this and don't recall seeing it previously posted......Enjoy! -Carl-
22. Re: How much do you customize the setting? I tend toward more of a "Wold-Newton" sort(s) of world(s) so I don't use too much of what the current CU has become. I do have some analogs to CU groups from older versions of the system: as an example, I have always seen VIPER as an analog to THRUSH from the old Man From UNCLE series. And my analog, Crimetech, uses/used that as a starting point when I came up with it circa 1984 or so. Like THRUSH, it has grandiose schemes but tends to keep a lower profile than VIPER does. Like THRUSH, it has been around in one form or another since the Victorian era. And like THRUSH, it has a "good guy" nemesis agency that fills the role of UNTIL, who always struck me as a hybrid of SHIELD, UNCLE and (from the 1970's version of Dr Who) UNIT. Of course, the "good guy" agency also handles other threats as well... I have included Project Onomatopoeia and some characters from the Firebird Press version of Golden Age Of Champions (and by extension, some of the CU reboot in Golden Age Champions (circa 4th Ed)) in my worlds history. But I also have stolen liberally from the Marvel and DC Universes for some character concepts who appear during the WW II era. I'm still attempting to decide the situation regarding Detroit, since I really, really like the Millennium City concept but I'm only so-so regarding the Battle Of Detroit. Fortunately, my last group of players never asked so I let it slide. There are additional cities in the US but they are not specifically analogs to CU locales. For example, there is Mariner Bay on the FL gulf coast but it does not really fill the same role as Vibora Bay. -Carl-
23. Re: Where is your campaign based? Long ago, when Champions was young, we based our campaign(s) in and around the college town we lived in (Urbana-Champaign, IL). A bit later I ran a fairly brief Chicago based campaign...And an also very brief Orlando FL based campaign. Most recently, the base of operations was Norfolk, VA which was based on ideas I had while living/working there in 2003-2004. That team (Team Norfolk) had their last session in action "on the road" up in Alaska....As for "universal aspects"? I don't use too much of the published CU. I tend more towards the Wold-Newton style of universe. Heroes all over both the US and the world. Some legacies of older heroes. Some brand new. While the details are still somewhat in flux, the world of my Champions players is also related to the world of any Star Hero players who might sign on at some point......And both are related to Golden Age heroes who formed both the Guardians Of Liberty and their offshoot, the Guardians Of Liberty Youth (or GOLY!.....and yes, Project Onomatopoeia makes an appearance or two ) -Carl-
24. Re: Modeling The "Killing The Assasins" Technique From ST:VI Sorry. I should have specified in my original post (and will edit it in shortly): This build is using 5th Ed. I don't have 6th and probably won't any time soon. -Carl-
25. Using 5th Ed I'm building a relatively low powered sonic device/weapon that does a fixed amount of damage. In general use (ie: at range against organic targets) it only acts as a stunning device. However, if used at extreme close range (ie: pressed to the skin of the target) it can cripple or even kill, much like the "phaser on low power assassination(s)" mentioned in the subject line..... My primary question(s): is there an obvious modifier to allow for the variation of effect due to range ? Am I over thinking the build ? Anyone have suggestions ? Thanks. -Carl-
