  1. Re: STAR HERO Cover Sneak Peek! I quite like the cover. I just hope that it indicates that fleet mass combat rules were included. I tend to be discouraged when a cover does not represent the contents of a book (such as Ultimate Base displaying what the rules inside would term a vehicle).
  2. Re: Star Hero I'm really looking forward to this, especially after seeing how well Fantasy Hero turned out. My only hope/wish is for it to contain mass combat rules (particularly for fleet engagements), as that was the only thing I felt was missing from the previous edition.
  3. Re: Wrestling HERO A lot would depend on whether you want the matches to be "fictionally real", worked, or shoots. If it was fictionally real, you wouldn't need to worry about acting skills though reputation would remain important, perhaps with different aspects to represent heat with both the crowd, and backstage/management. If it is worked like in the real world, ps: acting would be all important, and most of the aspects of UMA would be unimportant. Shoot wrestling would be the easiest to pull off, ala Pancrase Hybrid Wrestling and the later days of the old Japanese UWF, and UMA would be indispensable for this.
  4. Re: Flash Gordon Series News They don't need to follow on from the movie version or anything, but god I hope they use the Queen soundtrack.
  5. Re: CHAMPIONS UNIVERSE II - What Do You Want To See?
  6. Re: Genres HERO GAMES may want to avoid (intended to be humorous) MAME Hero (players either play notable video game characters, or more likely ROM hoarders attempting to catch them all!)
  7. Re: Favorite Hero Book of 2006 You Gotta Have Character is such a unique product (for Hero Games or anyone else) that I have to go with that.
  8. Re: Need a new game You're welcome.
  9. Re: Need a new game If you can successfully install the files from the flash drive, you might want to try the DOSBox emulator. It can probably run Dungeon Hack - It runs the various gold box games, unlimited adventures, and Eye of the Beholder 1 & 2 (as well as Morrowind and Daggerfall) well enough.
  10. Re: Fantasy Hero Problems and advantages Turakian Age seems sufficiently fleshed out to me. I know a few D&D players who use it in fact.
  11. Re: Horror Hero: What would you have liked to have seen? As Horror Hero would have been a first of sorts, a Meta-Genre Book, I would have liked to see it designed as just that. One chapter dedicated to the metagenre as a whole, and then individual chapters detailing the layering of horror onto each of the major genres: fantasy, star, champions, dc, pulp, etc. Pulp and Victorian might get larger chapters, of course. If the book would have done well, it could have led to similar meta-genre books for Comedy, Tragedy, Romance, etc.
  12. Re: The Lost Room Hero Ummm... well that would lead to four alternate versions of canon, one which would have the objects being from another planet. Of course that will be the version that everybody hates, and be ignored in future sequels.
  13. Aside from the Fantasy Hero rules, are there any other guidelines for Mass Combat in Hero System? I'm primarily wanting them for Star Wars-themed battles, and with minor tweaking Fantasy Hero's mass combat system looks like it would work fine for Hoth and Geonosis style battles. It dosn't look suited to space battles though. Are there any Digital Hero articles that cover extensions like that to the Mass Combat rules?
  14. Re: If YOU have been playing Hero since the 80's why do you still keep coming back? Since 1989, when I discovered that a system could be universal in one book... Reasons I keep coming back: 1) The current DOJ/Hero emphasizes substance over style, in a sometimes excessively stylish market. I'm not saying I'd complain about full-color Hero System hardcovers, just that it's not as important as the material inside. 2) Technology - Hero embraced technology earlier than most, and it shows in how advanced the character generator is. Compare Hero Designer and GURPS Character Assistant side by side sometime. 3) Steve Long has time to answer questions....and even write and edit. He must be cloned! 4) Almost any character can be built with just the core rulebook. The closest rival still requires two books for that.
  15. Re: Package Deals in 5ER One thing that will make package deals more attractive is to make certain talents or powers only available with a package deal. If only members of the Black Wizards of Ergul can cast spells, or only monks of the Jedalun order can wield Force Swords, then the package deals involved become a... er... deal. Otherwise they make character creation a tad quicker, which can be a deal in and of itself.
  16. Re: Herogames: The Sportscar Product I know there is some negativity toward the idea of adding another fantasy game to a crowded market, but the bottom line is most RPG players start with and continue with that genre. A product like Sidekick is great, but it dosn't strictly target the D&D player who's ready to move on. Such a book might contain: - the core of sidekick, focused toward fantasy - a package deal selection strikingly close to the D&D core classes and races. - monsters from the HSB and MMM that most resemble the D&D variety. - spells fashioned after D&D standbys - suggestions on how to move beyond the constraints of the other system using HERO's flexibility. Basically it could serve as a pitch to the consumer for a next RPG when he or she is ready to "graduate" from d20. Perhaps call it Fantasy HERO Henchman.
  17. Re: Secret Crisis? I knew about the Amalgam Secret Crisis from the trading cards, and it looks like the other thread diverted into analysing Secret Wars and Crisis OIE, rather than the Champions Universe version. I guess it could be merely an homage, as has been suggested, but I had hoped it would have been intended as the event that altered the pre-DOJ Champions Universe into it's current form. As it could have taken place in many timeframes, and included characters from both old continuity and new, I think it would make an excellent (if complex) sourcebook. Edit: never mind. Darren explained it here: http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19860
  18. Is there any source of information describing the Secret Crisis mentioned as occuring in 1985 in the new Champions Universe? My idle speculation is that (the world which had underwent the turakian and valdorian age)'s heroes and villains meet up with their counterparts from the original (1e-4e) CU and battle an anti-monitor/beyonder hybrid, resulting in a merged timeline. Any other theories?
  19. Re: Tentative 2006 Schedule Most of my best friends are carnivores. I would feel like a hypocrite if I bought something leather-bound though. At least it seems to be something they're open to ideas about. Personally, I'd like to see it as a full-colour interior faux-leather hardcover, signed and numbered. Like the GURPS 4E affair, but with even better rules.
  20. Re: Tentative 2006 Schedule I know I'm in a minority, but personally, I hope they go with imitation leather. I would have happily shelled out the cash for the D&D 3.5 special and the Call of Cthulu limited had they not used the real thing.
